Vaping in movie theaters

Smokers and vapers aren't the best people to tell as far as smell goes. People who have allergies to airborne particles are better. They can smell it for sure, before I even get a whiff.
Including home? Would you live in a non-medical state by any chance? Most patients I know have to at home. Out in public is a different manner.

Bingo! This is just the kind of entitled viewpoint that I have an issue with. Because movies are expensive, we can do whatever we want? It's great you want to enjoy yourself, but there are plenty of people around who don't enjoy vapor or smoke, besides the smell. I have a friend with sensitivity to particulate matter, and to think she'd have to leave a movie because someone was "treating themselves" in the theater is pretty sad IMO. But I'm a geezer I guess.

Isn't this thread all about HOW to dot it? That sounds suggestive to me. Sorry you took my comment that way, but I have tested it, and it's not a sure thing by any means. If it works, it requires a lot of technique, and with some strains it won't work at all. The problem I have is because no one has mentioned it to you (and we both admit we don't really bring it up when we see it), there's an assumption that people can't tell that I don't see a basis for. Anyway, sorry for your person offense.

I'm glad your theater arrangements support this The ones here really don't, but again my point is nobody can know for sure if it's safe in any situation.

Just to clarify, I really don't care if you vape in a theater or not. It doesn't bother me at all unless I'm with that friend I mentioned. When it bothers me is when I read in the media about people calling attention to themselves by pushing to limit on what they can get away with in public, when there's no actual need for it. A lot of states here are trying to go medical, and trying to go legal. The impression some of the behavior described in this thread does nothing to help the cause. To each, their own. If you re-read the thread, I'm hardly the only one who called it rude and careless.

You didn't mention if you were in a legal state or are a med patient, so I can't call anything you do out. Someone in a non-legal state, why chance anything in a public theater? In a legal or medical situation, it just sounds rude to me. Sorry but I can't justify it.

Glad we could discuss it. At least FCers probably have the expertise to get away with it. And as you mentioned former smokers being sensitive, it's probably because I pulled stunts like this when younger is why I'm against it now. You know, like the stoner parents who forbid their kids to try weed. :myday: Maybe nobody gives a crap about cannabis in public anymore, I don't know.

Edit: The quote function hates me.

I get you on all points. And, agree if anyone can smell it in a theater, it's a problem. A BIG problem. But again, before you throw all of this you should try it with an MFLB if you have a few years experience with it (I've been using one since '09). Or, learn how to use one and try it. Check it at home. But until you do, I don't think you really know what I (or you for that matter) are talking about.

As I said above, this has been tested with people who don't smoke anything anymore but did for years. I was hesitant to mention it above, but have even done this with my mother sitting right next to me (she smoked MJ for about 20 years and stopped 15 -20 ago), and have asked her to be on the lookout for it. Smelled nothing tho she has seen me taking a hit a couple times. Not hard when sharing the same armrest. But, she and the others aren't the type who are going to say they don't smell anything if they do - actually quite the opposite in most cases. More times than not when I do go to the movies, there is someone with me that doesn't smoke/vape and I always remind them to let me know if they smell anything at all. Has never happened in 15 - 20 instances over the past several years.

All I'm saying is it can be done if you know the MFLB well and are careful. I wouldn't even think of trying it with any other vape I've ever used, but this (not just for theaters) is a good reason why I keep this one in the vape arsenal.

FWIW, I'm not in a legal state at all (so of course not legal med status). But I fail to see the relevance here. If one of the 8 people I've checked this with (only one who still smokes cigs, and 4 who haven't smoked/vaped weed in years or don't regularly) said they smelled anything at all I wouldn't be doing it in a medical or recreational state either. It's not as much about not caring for others or subjecting them to my vapor as you've indicted me of a few times now. It is that it seems to be imperceptible to others in the theater. If it wasn't, I wouldn't do it.

Outside in the smoking area of a large bar, or at a sporting event with 20,000 to 70,000 people? I don't worry as much about the smell and offending anyone to the point of blowing it down my sleeve or collar. If someone can smell it over the cloud of tobacco smoke floating around, I just don't want them to know it is me making it. Here what you're saying might even have a little more validity, but I keep it low and light too. Admittedly, more for my own benefit of not being escorted out or worse.

I also have two friends who I trust well enough with this (one has their own MFLB as their only vape, and the other has shared mine for years). The rules in any situation stay the same. No passing back and forth in the open, and if anyone is looking around suspiciously or if anyone you are with sees or smells any vapor other than exhaling towards your own belly button, party over. To date this has only happened once when one of those friends was shitfaced drunk outside a bar and getting a bit sloppy.

It's cool man. If nobody really notices than who can complain, right? I get it. Back in the combusting days, I would be known to bring a doobie or two to a concert. In that kind of environment is different because there's a lot of cover smoke and it's out in the open, and kind of expected. Not sure why but something about the theater bugged me for some reason.

Wow, I haven't fired up the MFLB in a long time... I only asked what state because the risk would be different depending, but it sounds like you have it under control. Best of luck. :peace:

I used to buy the disposable "e-cig" style vapes that would have ~1 gram of poor quality BHO oil just to take to the theater. Smell is minimal and it's the size/shape of a cigarette. They're about $30 at the dispensaries, better ways to spend $30 on bud but for the right situation it's acceptable.

Do it all the time if the cienma is empty enough, I usually see movies near the end of their cycle at a silly time. Take the vape in with you and if you can find a good, spot for it go ahead! If not keep it in the pocket, and vape in the toilet before the movie starts.

I haven't in a theater yet, as I rarely go to the movies.

If we're talking in public though... I live in NYC. Vape on the platform waiting for the train on a regular basis. Vape on the train when it's pretty empty. Have had a roomette on Amtrak several times & vaped away with no problem. Whenever I hit the beach, my portable is packed & in my bag.

Basically, there is a smell. It's not the same as if you sparked up a J. Much more subtle. Stealth is key. So is common sense. Use it. Avoid people. Don't be obvious. You should be fine.

I have even turned the corner with my Pax in hand (thumb over green light) and walked by cops with no problem. :)

One thing to note which I learn with the solo in the cinema. We all love how the vape looks in a dark room over the tv or computer/tablet light. Take extra caution in the cinema, the easiest option is just doing it in situations where even if there is vape there is nobody around to see it. Up the back in a relatively empty showing is best. If it is less optimal I find low temp sipping is the most logical way. The only time I don't start the solo and 7 is in the cinema (or trains and such). I start at three and sip, holding in a long time and blowing down my shirt neck. Holding lung busters makes me cough not good for the situation.

Vaping in a theater goes against my personal policies on how not to get busted. The other reason I would not vape in a theater it is that I realize not all movie goers will have an appreciation for the herb as I do. I don't want my habit to interfere with anyone trying to enjoy the movie.

That's just it... if others (besides who you're with) have any idea vaping is going on, you're already doing it wrong.

it's a good way to give vaporizing a bad name
Exactly. Society has standards. We need to respect others and hope that we are respected by them. Those who don't respect others make everybody look bad, as ignorance tends to group everybody together in one nice tidy group.

I may take my vape to the beach and puff when facing my bag, laying on my stomach. The last time I went there was a nutjob drinking a 40 on the train, laughing his arse off while he rolled a joint and lit it. He thought it was hilarious when I opened a window. I thought he was an irresponsible drunk fool who makes me, a responsible drunk fool look bad.

I applaud Steama for having policies which are respectful of others. I applaud those of us who, if they do vape in a theater or other public area, do so with respect to others who may not want to be part of it. Like it was mentioned, if they know you're doing it... you're doing it wrong.

Long story short, caution is key try at own risk. And if you probably shouldn't be doing it own bother, if you got a session vape turn it on in your pocket off to the toilet few nice rips in the cubical and do whatever you need to do with your device to mask smell. 3minutes out of the cinema vs being busted, but if you got a clear run at it it's certainly a nice way to enjoy the movies.

Seems like the smartest thing to do is arrive early and vape in the bathroom. I try to go to the movies when it's empty anyway, I don't dig crowds and an audience never improves my movie-going experience.

Buying a big screen TV and waiting until the movie comes out in DVD and watching it at home using your vaporizer all you want, seems better and more comfortable IMO. Do what you feel comfortable doing but willing to face the consequences if you get caught from the management. Some states and areas they might even call the cops.

We have legal weed in Washington state I doubt that the cops would be called here but you never know? It depends on who the management is? It might be some hard ass.
There's no smoking indoors in most places - that would include an e-cig or any vaporizer.
It's a fine using cannabis in public here. Not sure if it's ever enforced?

Especially when you could just have a toke before going to the theater.

I rarely vape outside the house and when I do, I'm usually out in the forest somewhere. Just me and the other wild creatures.

There's no need to vaporize IN a theater. Cannabis' effects last a long time. Vaporize outside, go in, and by the time the movie starts your buzz will be in kicking into full gear.

A lot of people who use Cannabis have adapted to love the smell and taste, due to the mental link to its pleasurable effects, as well being accustomed to it, but those who never use it, often think it stinks.

Imposing that smell on a theater full of people is just inconsiderate. A lot of people would hate it if cigarette smokers did it, even if the effects of the smoke weren't harmful to others.

X2. No need to vape in the theater and possibly piss off others.
Take it outside, bake it outside :)

Some are super sniffers, like my wife, so they'd really notice it. I have tweezer loaded some bud into a cartridge in a distant room, and then went over near my wife (never vaped it as it was for later) and she asked, " did you just smoke"?

Years ago if you carried a flask or a bag with bottle inside you where classed as a whino. Replace vape for flask.

If I couldn't last 60/ 90 minutes as a rec user I would be taking an inner look.

Public places are for everyone. Respect for others seems to be sadly lacking these days.

Rant over.

Where I live is a mj illegal state, but they sell beer, wine, and have a full bar in the lobby.
I should have been a chemical engineer cause I'm so good at converting beer into water. So I don't drink in the theater or I miss half the movie.
I have used a MFLB in the theater, but just vape in the car now, to much hassle. Doc

I have vaped in theatres with a mflb very easily before. I've done it with various other portables, too. A smoke buddy would make it better, but so far no one has seemed to care except my lady sitting next to me lol
I personally don't vape in bathrooms. To me that is nasty. I've never had anyone notice me vaping anywhere in public with the mflb and some discretion.

No smoking or vaporizing in a movie theater. We live in a legal state too. Folks come to the movie theater to watch a movie. I don't want to be disrespectful to others and piss off the management. Do you really want that embarrassment if you were asked to leave? Is it really worth it? Use your vaporizer in the car before you go inside. That would be my suggestion.

Legal or not, how would y'all feel if someone were to blow some tobacco or e-juice clouds in your general direction? Why not just have a great big vape sesh beforehand or pop an edible instead of making a scene?

Someone I know has a pen vape that vapes thc concentrate cartridges... it has no smell really and a tiny bit of taste... that could work for sure.. figure out a way to ingest terpenes too ( like whole peppercorns) with those vape pens and the effects could be better

I wouldn't vape in a movie theater. Just feels like it would be somewhat selfish to subject those around me to it.

For those who would vape in a theater I suggest sitting in the last row. Unless your in the last row a vapor trail will probably be highly illuminated by the blackness and light from the projector/projected movie.
