Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud

It looks like you hitting that thing way to soft man. Pound the fuck out of it!! That's why there was so much extra left over vapor in the tube when you pulled it.

Maybe it is just due to the fact that heat rises.
He stops hitting it, lifts the unit off and keeps it upside down, pulls the elb while still upside down, the turns upright.
Heat rises, keep this in mind and watch again, it is pretty self explanatory.

It was something internal.
Well, my Cloud just fried about ten minutes ago. Was drawing, then lifted the unit to clear and it made a "popping" sound and sparked and turned off. Now it won't even turn on. Cloud is very new too, it delivered on the 20th. Oh well. Opening up a Support ticket.
I was using the Cloud inverted on my Ion Matrix and whilst drawing it made a "pop", a blue spark, and turned off, never to light up again. Bryan at VXL said they never found the exact issue with my Cloud, but my guess is it probably just sat in the box at the refurbishing center.

Oh well, minus the really bogus misalignment on my Cloud+, everything seems to be a-okay.

So I guess "pounding the fuck out of it" didn't cause your Cloud to fail then? I'm confused. Questioning Brian's integrity without proof is not nice . . .

You're putting words in my mouth. :p I was just saying that when my first unit failed, I was drawing on it more heavily than usual. Not sure if that was the culprit, and we'll never know since VXL staff never told me.

Ha, the reason Cloud #1 broke was because I was pounding the fuck out of it. Albeit my unit was probably flawed from the beginning, but dragging really hard on it caused it to make an electrical "pop" and fried. :(

Not really, and you never answered my question.

I do not know what caused my first Cloud to fail. Something internally made an electrical "pop" while I was drawing on it and it broke. I asked VXL staff Bryan what seemed to cause the defect and he didn't know either.. I cannot be any more clearer than that. :)

My cloud has made a very audible *POP* but no spark and the cloud did not break afterwards.

However, a similarity comes up as my pop and your pop were both due to lots of air rushing through the bamboo. I was shaking it and you were drawing very hard.

This was the only response I got regarding the pop. I haven't really seen it brought up since.

(Hope SliM doesn't mind this post resurrection ;))
I can chime in on this SD_Haze. This has happened to me a few times. I am like you... I don't clean the bamboo. After using it all day every day for weeks/months it builds up allot of essential oils inside. The first time this happened it really concerned me.

I was sitting there looking at the cloud for some random reason and I heard a pop and saw a flame for a brief moment. I noticed it smelled like combustion. I figured I would leave it running and see what happened. It worked fine, and I chalked it up to a piece of plant material falling off the sides into the heating charmer.

A bit of time went by and it happened again. This time it occurred to me that there was nothing that fell in to the bamboo. I decided to use a q-tip to clean the glass joint. It did not happen again... until the glass joint got dirty. With my use it was about three weeks or so. A month later I was sitting there and it happened again. It was sitting there and heard a pop/short flame/combustion smell. I remembered cleaning it and decided I would try cleaning the inside of the glass around the top joint every couple weeks. Since I have been doing that I have never had it happen again.

BTW My ELB was never in the cloud at the time.

Here is what I think happens. All the essential oils get deposited on the insides of the glass. After a certain amount has deposited it can ignite. It is basically self cleaning/regulating the amount of oil inside the tube. When the bamboo fills up with enough it will ignite and burn off.

The reason this might have happened to you is that you were shaking the cloud. Even with the ELB in your unit, this would have made air go though the bamboo at a varying speed. I bet that could have caused the this to happen. When the cloud is nice and hot I use a dry q-tip to wipe down the inside of the glass. I try not to stick it too far into the bamboo. In general I don't go much deeper then where the metal body starts. I try and keep the area that comes in to contact with the ELB and the few millimeters below that clean.

I assume things are still running fine with your unit right? Not sure how hard you are shaking it. Gently to you might be crazy hard to me. :) Hope that explanation helps.

Ok, some of my first impressions of the cloud:

The Pros:
I love the EZ-load bowl setup. There was 3 of us, each with our own bowl, and we could just swap out elbs whenever someone wanted to have a hit. They fit nicely and were easy enough for me to handle without any special tools. They can get pretty hot after a few consecutive hits, but they seemed to cool down pretty quickly.

The cloud itself didn't get very hot at all when we were using it, but MCG mentioned it got pretty hot if used for multiple hours at a time. I'm guessing its casings heat output would be similar to a hot LSV, so I'm happy with that aspect.
There were bands over the screws, so I didn't really see how hot they get, but I understand they can get significantly hotter than everything else.

It was very easy to use, literally just invert it and plug it into some glassware. The vapor output was great, (though I can get comparable vapor output from my LSV), and the ABV was all coming out nicely evenly toasted.
It also got us impressively high, though that may have had something to do with the keif elb I had ;)

I tried it out with my hydratube, I like the ergonomics of that setup.
I'd already used my HT with other vapes, so it felt perfectly natural to me, but since MCG got the cloud without one, it seemed to be a bit nerve inducing the first time.

I like the red light/green light system of letting the user know when the unit is up to temp.
It's a nice quick reference point that can be seen at a glance.

Overall, functionally, I love it.
It's very easy to use, gives a great output of tasty vapor, and the whole process of using it with glassware felt natural.

The Cons:
As MCG mentioned earlier, his unit had some minor chips/scratches to the outer heat guard part.
Nothing major, but given the price point of the cloud (basically top of the line for vapes) I'd expect a perfect, unblemished unit.
A point I consider relevant is that 7th floor sell "blemished" units at a discount (on eBay, and possibly directly) and what they consider a blemish is simple, non-functional cosmetic issues like these.
7th floor may be a larger or longer established company, but I feel the point stands.

The unit itself was also clearly not symmetrical.
The bamboo was off to one side a bit (closer to the side of the unit where the cord comes out), so much so that for a few of my pieces, it would fit on when the cord was facing me, but not when the cord was facing away...

The cord is very short.
It was maybe 1/2 the length of my LSV... I find that my LSV has the perfect length cord for me, so I'd definitely need some kind of extension cord for it...
It seemed strangely short to me...

I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence, but at least 4 times, I'd pick up a green cloud, turn it over, and it'd turn red.
Not a major issue, but it was just kinda odd, and interrupted the flow a bit.

It turned green pretty quickly after turning it on, but it seemed to need a bit longer to properly heat up.
------------

So overall, for me, the cloud is a great vape, it still has a few kinks to work out, but its definitely up there with the best of them.

It's cons are relatively minor, but at its price point, IMO, they should be worked out...

If I was talking to a vapor enthusiast who wanted the pinnacle of water conditioned vaping, I'd totally recommend he cloud.
If I was talking to anyone else, I'd consider other vapes which are at a lower price point while providing a significantly similar experience (im thinking LSV and Solo here.)

While its a great vape, I don't necessarily know if I'd say its entirely worth the price premium over some other high quality desktop vapes that are available right now.

Since I'd condider myself "a vapor enthusiast who wanted the pinnacle of water conditioned vaping" I'm still planning on getting one, but I don't know how easy it'd be for me to recommend it over the LSV when looking at it from a cost to performance standpoint.

I'm sure ill have other bits and bobs to add, but for now, that's my initial impressions after my 1st sesh with the cloud.

I just did three back to back fully loaded elb's at 3 o'clock and I'm totally fine!

Well, aside from the fact that I cant feel my legs and I'm pretty sure one of my dogs just recited the old testament in Yiddish.....
This is how I can tell the the Cloud is a Weapon of Mass Extraction! You got yours working for sure!!

Great review, Fred. Just fwiw . . .

I don't think the unit is designed to be exactly symmetrical. On the two that I've had the bamboo is placed a little closer to the backside; that's a spacing consideration vis-a-vis the pcb behind the switch. I also need to face the cloud one way on some glass pieces - I think that's common; it's necessary even on the CloudBuddy.

My units also sometimes turn from green to red, and then shortly thereafter return to green. I seems that they are sensitive to temp change and quickly adjust accordingly.

The bamboo is offset and not centered to allow for compatibility with more pieces. If the bamboo was in the center it would not have enough clearance to fit quite a few pieces. And it's because of the main PCB, which is installed on the front, that the bamboo is offset towards the rear. So even though you may have to deal with the cord getting in the way, the asymmetrical placement is a functional feature, and not an aesthetic flaw.

The light turning red when you go to turn it over is due to you touching the knob just ever so slightly, which causes the light to go red. Just because the light has gone red, does not mean you should, or even have to, wait for it to go green again. Once at temp the cloud will never go cold unless you actually turn it down.

Ive never tried the LSV, but IMO the Solo does not provide a significantly similar experience. In fact, I dont think any vape ive tried provides a significantly similar experience. At least when it comes to filling large pieces of glass

I just tried some nice shatter in the two-cap method for the first time in my Cloud+, about enough material for four average-sized dabs. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I felt the end result, but I find more taste and potency to come from a straight up nail.

I like kief in the two-cap method, however. I've only tried those two and then flowers.

I took a video last night of the hits, they weren't impressive but delivered great taste and a great way to fall asleep.

Well... I sandwiched a dab between flowers and woke up with one shoe on and my dog licking my face at 5am. lol. Never tried the nail method, nor oil or extract as my lady friend called it... is the oil, concentrate, just hash? or something else? Forgive me, first time I ventured beyond flowers. I just froze the waxed paper with the "dab" so it would just shatter and not be so damn sticky!

The cloud seemed to work fine. the elb lasted longer for sure, but even when it seemed spent, it was a bit nasty to clean.

fred...glad you tried it...I was itching to hear what you think, so thanks for the great review!

I'll be curious to see if your opinion changes after living with one for a while. I rarely pull anything else out anymore when vaping at home.

ireindl...this thing was made to hit hard, so you did not break it by drawing too hard.

Ahh, cool, I thought it was supposed to be symettrical, if its a design choice to have it off centre that's sweet by me.
I never bumped the knob, I was picking it up by the sides, and it would just switch when I flipped it over.
Not major, but odd.

Oops, I didn't mean to say the solo gives a comparable experience, I was thinking more along the lines of almost every "is te volcano worth the price?" Thread I've read, where you could get a LSV and a solo, and be covered for great quality home vapes and portable vapes, for cheaper than just the cloud.
I did feel that I get pretty similar performance from my LSV, though it may take a bit more skill/effort...
It's also hard to accurately compare the two after only 1 sesh.

agree I much prefer the straight tubes
Me too. Even though bent-necks may be more ergonomic on the user's neck, the straight tubes offer a different experience because you can see the tube milk up when you hit it.
