wish I had mine for more then a week before it died.
Damn, just joined the 2% Club! My brand spakin' new backup Cloud wont turn green.
Luckily, luggage just arrived with my OG Cloud -- ticking loud and strong since 4/20 last.
Will open ticket.
Great product but to pay $450 for a very unreliable product is madness. so I hope it was more bad luck then anything. But it seems way higher then just 2% of cloud owners having issues with their product.
cloud orphans are very loud
The FC membership now constitutes <10% of the number of Cloud customers, probably even less. Translation: We are no longer statistically representative.
There have been thousands of units shipped. The run rate is increasing. Translation: We are becoming even less statistically representative.
VXL is now selling indirect through an increasing number of distributors; this will have a compounding effect on unit volume. Translation: We not only are less important numerically, our opinions are becoming less relevant (unless, that is, our opinions and those of the distributors are about the same; this game is won in the sales channels, not on forums).
Marketing research proves that the percentage of unhappy customers who volunteer their dissatisfaction is much greater than the percentage of happy customers who do. The delta percentages vary somewhat of course across the research, but the fact of there being a large gap, is consistent. Translation: Taken with the above data, the complaints here are not statistically indicative quantitatively or qualitatively. That doesn't mean that a particular complaint/concern is invalid or not important of course; it does mean that perspective is called for.
About that 2%, it is still misunderstood. Warranty unit failure and warranty cost are not the same. The 2% industry average refers to cost, not units. VXL's warranty extension indicates that its unit cost of warranty has decreased such that it can fund the additional coverage. Translation: We not only get more warranty time, we also get it with assurance of greater reliability and hence less need to exercise the warranty.
I used to post here a lot, but haven't much recently. I've had my 'ticker' since the beginning of August last year...nearly 7 months. Throughout that period of time, my Cloud has been on for several hours a day and at a temperature between ~9:30am(rare) and max. It usually rests comfortably around ~11/12 throughout the day, and meanders to max by the end of the evening. If I have oil on hand, it stays at max all day long, from 7am until as late as midnight (gotta vape the midnight oil, don't ya know? ) Since acquiring a WeMo Switch, I've had my Cloud running via automated recipes. These vary, from keeping my Cloud on for several hours a day when I'm home on and off, to full 24 hours, and even week long stretches, when I'm sick in bed, etc.
My point is, my Cloud has been there for me, when I need it, and I put it through some rigorous hours! Not once has it failed me in any way, and there have been stretches where it has been on at max temp, for over 48 straight hours(power cycled every hour via WeMo.) I don't expect it to die anytime soon, but I will be taking advantage of the new extended warranty sometime before my current warranty expires. I plan on purchasing the upgrade sometime between now and August, and just holding on to the Cloud until I need or want the upgrade(s)/repair. I don't want/need any of the new features quite yet...With the 'Silicon Bracelet Mod' the outer shell temp has been tamed, at least until the summer...and the WeMo keeps the Cloud nice and toasty, so I don't ever really wait for it to heat up...and as for repair, if the bamboo does break, or the Cloud stops working, I'll send it in for repair and get the upgrades then.
Because my Cloud just keeps on ticking, and I've learned to look past, or even love some of the things that I complained about before, I don't even think to come here and post in this monster of a thread! But, if I did, it would be posts like this, saying how much I love my Cloud! I also aven't posted a video in a while, so we'll take care of that as well
The video is in HD...once you either hit play, or open the video on the youtube site, you can click the little 'settings wheel' at the bottom right of the video, and change the quality to 1080p, etc...
...and as for repair, if the bamboo does break, or the Cloud stops working, I'll send it in for repair and get the upgrades then...
That's what I was thinking, but a couple members said that if you break your bamboo without the upgrade, you are SOL and VXH can't fix it.
Yea, I don't get that, though. If they can put a new one in by way of an upgrade, why wouldn't they be able to put a new one in if it gets broken?
If you break your bamboo today, it will be 150$ to fix the bamboo at the same time we retrofit the new technology. The advantage of buying the warranty now before anything happens is you also get the added warranty.
When I emailed VXL about this, they said "Hello
If you purchase the warranty upgrade now, you will be able to send it in regardless if it stops working, broken bamboo, ect to get it retrofitted with the new cloud plus technology.
I have just invoiced you for Cloud Plus please pay it to complete processing of your upgrade."
Evidently, if I break my bamboo today, and send it in for warranty, it's not fixable, but if I pay $150 and it breaks tomorrow, I can send it in for repair? hahahahaha
Thanks! That makes MUCH more sense! I know where my confusion stemmed from...up until recently, AFAIK, the bamboo breaking was a non fixable, even in warranty, type of issue...correct?If you break your bamboo today, it will be 150$ to fix the bamboo at the same time we retrofit the new technology. The advantage of buying the warranty now before anything happens is you also get the added warranty.
Got my cloud plus in yesterday and spent the better part of the day experimenting with it.
Here's the short version: I have to take a bit longer draws than before to get my hydratubes to milk up the same at the same settings. I can still get yellow/brown ABV at 12' and I can get almost black ABV at MAX.
Longer version: it seems that the temperature of the air drawn through the tube hasn't changed much, but the glass stem and elbow are now considerably cooler. This is apparent just by taking the ELB out after a session. Previously they were always a bit hot to the touch, now they are barely warm.
I still got a powerful high after only 1 ELB, you know the kind of high where your guitar playing skill goes up to a million inside your head.... But I digress.
The main functional difference from my old unit, is that when on MAX, My old unit would milk up the hydratube the instant I started a draw. Now I have to start my draw and count to four or five before I see the tube milk up very much. I tend to take 10 second draws now which is longer than before.
It's taking me far longer the finish an ELB. Right now I am not feeling so great about all this, but I will give it some more time before making a full judgement. It certainly still makes big clouds, but takes a little more work.
I also got a cloud buddy and really enjoy it. For a bit last night instead of using the glass stopper, I was hitting the INH004 and cloud at the same time in parallel, treating the INH like the stopper.... holy shit biggest vape hits ever. Both devices have sort of inverted performance profiles so they complimented each other perfectly... INH milks instantly but only for 2-3 seconds which means they cloud starts producing just as the INH stops.
I would only trade my cloud for my son but then go buy another cloud... And I will be enjoying my cake and eating it too..... the ohhhhhh so delicious angel cake floating here in the clouds with my son off away in his crib drifting away zzzzzzzzz into his great big room of shiny toys for him to explore including daddy's laptop all the while daddy floats through the stratosphere gently looking down on him.
Edit: of course the wifey too, and dog, and 2 cats. :-)
ictus, is the bottom of the HT resting on top of the Cloud? If so you may try, gently, adjusting the bamboo up to see if it mates/seals with the HT better. I have found that some HTs like more bamboo than others, and the Devastator likes the bamboo all the way down. Also just realized my new shower dome HT isn't making a perfect seal with the cloud, I can still suck air when I plug the bottom of the cloud. I'm thinking that's bad... Very small leak. It might impact pressure.
