Hi everyone,
So I ordered the Cloud instead of the Volcano. I just ordered yesterday so I can't comment on my satisfaction with the unit yet, but I am expecting to be blown away. I think a lot of the reason I went for the VXC is the sheer number of people (here and elsewhere) commenting that this new vape had immediately sent their Volcano to the shelf. With the Volcano I was a little concerned about the maintenance and having to buy bags, etc., the VXC solved all of these issues. Low maintenance and a seemingly superior device? Where do I sign up?! Another point that really sold me is that it can be used with all kinds of glass set ups. I don't have a glass collection ATM, but I have a feeling that I may be starting one in the near future. To me, this keeps the VXC fresh and interesting. Man, I just can't wait to get this thing!
I ordered the Evolver HydraTree package. I wasn't sure which one to get, the tree style looked nicer, so I went with that. Probably a bad reason to pick one, but I'm new to glass and wanted to get one on order ASAP. I doubt I'd be disappointed with any of them though.
Welcome and congrats on your purchase!
I was also deciding between getting a Volcano and a Cloud when I was searching for a good desktop vape. My friend's Volcano was the first vape that I ever really enjoyed (I had only tried box vapes before I tried the Volcano); I credit it with starting me on the path towards a combustion-free existence.
However, I was a bit turned off by the bag. The 'cano definitely produces some delicious and smooth hits, but I find that the bag can be unwieldy (maybe the bags that we use are too big, haha). I feel like it's great for passing around, but I don't anticipate having a gang of people coming by my place to vape.
I'm not really into the design, either. It's kinda cool in a vintage-Star Trek-tech sort of way. However, the look and design of the Cloud+any Hydratube is more my steez.
In the end, I also went with the Cloud and am very happy with my decision. I second your thought about using various types of glass with the Cloud in order to keep the experience fresh. The one drawback in this whole situation is the fact that owning a cloud has seriously kicked up my GAS.
Regarding your choice of the Hydratree, I think you'll be happy with it. As you said, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Aesthetics is a perfectly good reason for choosing a piece, especially since the differences in performance between the tubes is nominal. Although the hydraline is my favorite, I'd still be extremely happy using only the hydratree or hydracirc.
Sorry, I can't help you out with your questions. I haven't left my cloud on for toooo long and I'm usually done with it before an hour has passed. I do a decent job of turning my cloud off immediately after I'm finished, but if I
do end up forgetting about it and come back later, I give the switch a quick flip to off and then back to on. Usually heats up in less time than the intial session.
I would guess that bypassing the auto shut-off by flipping the switch every now and then would make the unit very hot, but I'm not sure if it would be enough to do any damage to the equipment. This is purely speculation on my part...
Edit:
The short answer is yes. I am just resurfacing from one of the most brutal chemo sessions I have ever had, days in bed, barely able to even make it to the bathroom to piss. Between me and my spouse hitting the switch to reset the timer, we keep the Cloud warmed up and ready to go as much as possible in case I need it quickly, so its been running almost non stop for a week now. The Cloud seems to love to be on all of the time, it takes it in stride. I hope the off timer will be user definable, or gone, in the next version
That's a serious bummer, tdub. My mom endured many chemo treatments before she passed. Seeing her in pain really hit me hard. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince her to try mmj to ease her symptoms. I think it would have helped a lot, but she was very conservative and couldn't get herself to consume what she perceived to be a "bad" drug.
Thanks for the info regarding keeping the Cloud running. Makes me a lot more comfortable knowing that I probably won't burn my apartment down if I space out after a cloud sesh.
