Did the last massdrop have a no hydratube option that was relatively inexpensive? I already have an evo and don't need another hydratube but having a backup evo is something I would consider if the price is righ especially considering mine is currently being repaired. I hate buying things as a backup... Really really really hate it but I think I hate being without my EVO more. I'd rather wait to see what new technology might come out because I can always buy another evo whenever I need at full price.

If the price is low enough without hydratube or low enough with some awesome hydratube I don't have then this will be a hard decision for me.
the drop was $449.99 plus shipping for the evo plus HT hydrafoot 2xelb and 2xVXnails

The last one only came with the hydratube but it sold for $450 which is the same as buying just the EVO off the site. It becomes a better deal if you sell the HT once you get it

Got my Cloud Evo yesterday, and my initial reaction is... whoah!

The thing that blows me away about this device is the efficiency. I get more medicated from half the medicine I was using before, and the ABV isn't as dark. The flavor isn't quite as robust as my old box, but that may be a function of using a lot less medicine.

In terms of the negatives, the device does get hot toward the top. Not so much that I burn myself, but you do want to grip this thing toward the base. And that brings me to really one big negative: the design makes it awkward to use with a bong.

The problem is there's not much base to grip between the dial on the front and the cord in back. I hold the device on the dial side, but my hand ends up close to the dial, and I have to take care not to inadvertently turn the dial while vaping.

One other minor criticism: I was a little disappointed with the build quality. When I turn my Cloud Evo over, I can feel a very slight *thunk* as if something is moving inside the case. And there are lots of little scratches and imperfections in the case.

Thus far, however, my complaints are minor and more than outweighed by the stellar performance. As I texted to my friend, vonging has taken a giant leap forward lol.

my initial impressions were the same about the build quality and imperfections on the case.. but that was my first defective unit, the box was beaten up and wasnt in the best shape to begin with. when i got a replacement however, it was a fucking beauty that whistled like crazy =)

Yea, the EVO's extraction is remarkable. I don't think the flavor should be affected by less herb, though. IMHO most new users benefit from experimenting across the heat range and with technique, and if available, the setup. There are subtleties to be discovered.

In terms of the negatives, the device does get hot toward the top. Not so much that I burn myself, but you do want to grip this thing toward the base. And that brings me to really one big negative: the design makes it awkward to use with a bong.

The EVO is intended to be gripped below the mid-point screws, with the bottom of the wristbands positioned just above that point. This provides visual and touch indicators to avoid handling the top section. At first holding it by the lower half was a bit of an annoyance for me, especially when inverting it. But after a short while of use handling became pretty much second nature and not difficult (fwiw I usually grip it with palm to the side and fingers wrapped around the back, cord in between fingers).

And, re using EVO with other glass pieces, there are many examples in the thread which might be useful to check out. With pieces where the clearance is tight or the joint is angled or it has a dewar joint, many of us use GonG adapters or the VXL CloudBuddy (which, while simple, works great).

Enjoy! :peace:

For more flavor: DONT put water in your Hydratube.

In other news, doing WORK during this rainstorm through the mini-circ. Gettin nice and gooey.

I still marvel at how many hits I can get out of each bowl compare to my Cloud+. The efficiency is just superior. Again and again and again  EVO.

You didn't get the heat sleeve? Aren't they coming with every EVO sold?

OK, there're another great solution. I don't have the heat sleeve, so I'm using wristbands.
Not that much for insulation (above noon dial even my double layer gets too hot) but for securing the dial so I can hold it on the bottom!
You need two wristbands, and put the under and above the dial. Take them closer to the dial to the extent they will be pushing on it from both sides. This silicone friction makes the dial impossible to move unwillingly and this friction also help with precision of setting it.
I've read this trick in the old Cloud thread long time ago and I'm using it since then with success. Nobody ever moved the dial accidentaly on my unit since then.

That sould be the mesh on the top.

Anyone using the whip to go from EVO to HF2 and HT? I'm guessing I'd need a GONG/GONG to get this setup to work, but IMO it would lessen my chance of loosening the bamboo from constantly taking the HT on/off in the normal non-whip setup.

I haven't heard of any report here of bamboo being loosened in an EVO.
How are you usingthat setup with a whip? You can't just put the HT on top of the HF2 and plug the EVO inverted into the HF2 intake?
Is your HT too wide? Or you don't want your EVO inverted? ...

@Meth0tica, I'm with @Seek . . . not heard of a loose bamboo on the EVO. And the HT should slip easily on/off the EVO joint, which is shaved just a wee bit to avoid joint lock.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Yes I can use the EVO inverted w/ the HF 2 and HT.

I just remember messages on here of people saying to be real careful when pulling your HT off the bamboo, to make sure you pull straight, don't twist, etc. or it could loosen. That just had me paranoid so I thought the whip would be a good alternative since no real weight would be on the glass joints.

That is correct for unlocking a locked joint. When you keep the joint on the EVO dry and don't connect it with excessive force it doesn't even lock.

cool, I'll just roll inverted then w/ my HF2.0 and not worry about a whip!

Much appreciated all, just making sure I'm taking care of the EVO.

What's the problem if the bamboo gets a bit loose, is it that it will loosen more with time?

Does anybody know where to get this adapter? Been out of stock at PV for ages now. Even just the 18mm female part?

I'm pretty sure , there should be No slight *thunk* whatsoever , when inverting the Evo . Maybe others can chime in .

I've put a wrist band at the bottom , for a better grip when vape/bonging .
btw , I will be removing the top 3 , as it acts more like a heat ' conductor '
than reducer , for me at least . The neoprene sleeve still reeks , I'll try soaking it in hot water and fragrance soap . See if that helps .

As mentioned , using lube on your glass is good advice . I like Bee's wax ,
my Evo can twist in the 18mm downstem as easily like the swiveling bent
stem of the Solo . Allows for easy disconnection .

And thank you all for confirming small loads is DO-able and then some .
Plus how to clean the VXN a la @Enchantre's vid and others' advise .
Quartz ...hmmm .
