Salutations Dynavaper,

It is not properly adjustable to the VC mass... ... Learn from my expensive mistake...

Exactly, nothing can be learned without putting numbers on the most basic features as mass.

For example in my modded VG pipe i found the core weighted around 0.75 g, which is for 1 Hybrid Core only. Now imagine using 2 such units in a near-symetrical capsule, transposing an IH-based assumption to my toch-based ("Bi-Energy") prototyping platform, for example:

Egzoset_s_Lava_Bi-_Energy_compatible_Capsule_-_Sliding_Control_b.gif

That's 1.5 g overall, assuming it's made of SS304 its Curie temperature would occur around 200 °C, which is a sure way to insure some prime level of safety, not to mention the lesser requirements in terms of temperature-tolerant materials, from operating below the Curie point.

Lets make a wild guess, that the total system can temporarily store 180 ~ 200 Joules, linearily adjustable in output, euh... What's a realistic workload for this then what's not??

Those are considerations as i'd expect to be on the menu when it comes to learning something.

:D

Apparently we must regret that your expensive experience left so little benefit. Meanwhile, for some people among the rest of us there still are more questions than answers. I'm thinking of the forgotten alternatives, like these hair salon products below...

How many Watts is a Loto Labs "Lux" in comparison?? I sincerely got to wonder. :sherlock:

Anyway the adage says it's never been about how much you got but how it's being used instead. :2c:

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

a reddit user requested my CAD model for the skelly holder.. so i decided to share it.

i uploaded it and the STL files i sent off for printing. as well as a small parts list of what i ordered off amazon to make this all work. (power cord, power jacks, some soldering required)

CAD models and STL files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/sqq14v5b6h6ad92/AACR8bEciP-x7bazjmz-rk-Ka?dl=0

Thanks! for the info and want to ask :
, what is only missing in the part list is the pipe kit ?

HELP! STAT!!

please. :)

i got my portside. one of the last of this model that pipes made.

i just want to make sure i don't blow myself up.

i put in the batteries, took awhile to figure out how but i won in the end. nothing happened. also although the portside lit up when i plugged in the charger, it didn't heat up. with batteries in AND with the charger plugged in it works.

is this the way to do it? i have a lot of shatter and i'd like to get started ASAP.

thanking you in advance.

edit: huh. now it does work with just the battery. that's odd. so when i plug it in, should i take the batteries out or leave them in? i'm not very bright about such things which is why i like reddit's - explain like i'm 5. :)

there should be diagrams of the batteries on the battery holder.. 2 go in one way, 1 goes the other way. are you sure you inserted them in the correct orientation?

dont use the charger to power the heater. it wasnt made for that.. the charger is WAY underpowered for that purpose

make sure your 3 batteries are all charged and at the same levels...

talk about quick response. :)

i edited my post. the batteries are working now. i'm smiling from ear to ear. what is the charger for? the batteries?

i appreciate you time.

Hey bud,

Sounds like the batteries just need some charge.

Leave the batteries in the PS, then connect the charger. It should show a red light on the charger.

Give it 10min to get some charge into the batteries, then you should be able to use as required.

The charge light on the charger plug will go green when the batteries are full, which takes about one hour. Then you can use the unit unplugged.

It will not work without batteries (at least partially charged) even when plugged into the mains.

perfect. now i get it. thank you guys very much. imma go get shattered. :myday:

I think what initially happened, was the BMS board went to protection mode when you inserted the batteries. Putting it on charge reset it.
Also, yes, please charge batteries up full before you get to serious use.
Glad you figured it out! :D

After the initial charge, no problem. You should give it a good constant first charge though.
If completely dead, I'd let it charge for a few minutes before dipping to get the charge off the bottom end.
;)

Right on brother

Edit: any of you with PS mini use it inverted before? I've tried leaving the PS engaged upside down for a couple seconds after the second click so I'm inhaling while its being heated? Thoughts?

Yo @Pipes can we use the PSmini plugged in? Don't know if this had been mentioned before

That does only apply to the Mini, but not to the Portside, right?

Would apply to both when batteries are new. It's just good practice to fully charge any new battery before a discharge cycle. Although, I think many use new battery driven purchases right away until dead then charge. I have no idea on the actual damage or long term effect it has. Always kind of wondered myself..? :hmm:

Need to figure out the battery gauge a bit. I had run through probably 30 caps so expected my mini to be pretty low. However, the gauge was still showing a few blue lights. But then I ran out of battery. Better to use number of caps run instead of the meter?

Im not 100% but I think the test button shows a more accurate reading if pressed while a VC is inserted into the PSM.
Hope this helps

I believe there is no memory effect with Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries unlike the NiCd and NiMh rechargeable batteries we use in the AAA and AA ranges (the ones that you use in your TV remote).

So the important factors for Li-Ion or Li-Po (PS or PS Mini) battery maintenance is:
  • Try to keep the battery between 20c and 25c (temp). Temperature will affect the batteries performance drastically.
  • Do not allow the battery to discharge below 2.5v. I believe the PS has a BMS (battery management system) built in. The PS BMS I believe balances the charging across the 3x 18650 cells and cuts off power delivery from those cells prior to 2.5v. I'm not sure about the PS Mini as its a single battery. @Pipes is there a BMS built in to avoid discharges below 2.5v?
  • It is better to top the batteries up than to fully charge and discharge.
  • If you aren't going to use the device for an extended period then it should be stored at about 40%-50% charge.
So for the PS Mini it should be fine to charge for 10min out of the box then use. Then fully charge and top up as needed.

For the PS it is probably best to fully charge before first use just to allow the BMS to ensure all 3 cells are balanced and that you don't accidentally drain one below 2.5v.

Yes, but that only refers to the mini's LiPo batteries. What about the batt. test of the 18650s as they might be the same.

the idea is that you test in load, that way you can get an accurate reading of the battery levels, vs testing them when they are sitting.. had a chance to rest..

turn on your flash light, preferably a non led one, but this works with led lights as well, just not as profound, since led's require such little current. after you flash light has been on for hours and the batteries died. then turn it off, wait a little bit, now turn on your flashlight again, notice how the batteries have rested and regained a little charge to power the light? same effect is happening when you test your batteries when the heater is not in use
