I think they both work great (best) with a long draw. I personally prefer the Alpha, but many folks love their SC3s. Here's the difference from UD:

The longer air path in the SC3+ and the Alpha is achieved by 'folding' it back along the length of the core instead of lengthening the core itself.



I think you are close..

The SC3, SC3+ and Alpha all use the same heating element.
The SC3+ and Alpha have a double length air path via the folding method mentioned above.

The current gen Alpha+ uses a different heating element which is twice the length of the standard one.
Then it doubles that with the folding method so equates to approx 4x the air path length vs the standard Alpha.
Eventually it'll be tweaked into the same length as the standard Alpha and the rest of the cores in future iterations.

All SC series Dogs use a 3/8" diameter center tube.
All Alpha series Dogs use a 1/2" diameter center tube.



The Alpha center tube has a nominal OD and ID of .5" and .455" respectively.

so, how do people fare with back to back (to back to back...) stempacks in a session?

The alpha x and + are both miles better than my sc3s, but still can cool a bit after a couple.
not as much w the alpha nylon/stainless, but more with the larger slip over glass. MAY be that it lets air in and thats that, but is there a way?

fwiw, my best days are weekends (!), where instead of my standard smart outlet, 4p-1a, 11.8v on vvps alpha x, I also add my alpha + at full bore 12.2v wallwart, and proceed to start each load w the x@11.7-11.8 and then hammer it home with the heat of 1000 suns on the +.

that combo eats whatever, but with only one in rotation, I can definitely cool either alpha enough that it wont keep up... (i like as close to coffee abv as i can, but dont want scorch...)

Wow, I never feel like I get cool-off for my back to back hits on the +. The X, yea after like 3 bowls, but it recovers within a couple of minutes after that. Maybe its because we vape at different temps though, i like my avb to be the color of straw

Joined the UD family last night, stayed up past my bedtime and so happy I did! Had eyed the Poplar alpha a few days ago and wanted it but decided to wait for the new batches. Although some new beauties, was happy the Poplar still available and went for as my first UD, and hopefully not my last. Look forward to sharing my experience after receiving and using - shout out to Razhumikin for turning me on to UD!

His love for them also sparked my interest. Was originally going to grab one with the sale but happy I decided to wait for the new drop. Can't wait to have it in my hands!

I want the Campfire Citrus too, dammit! It has so much personality, and I keep thinking about the previous gorgeous campfire citrus that I missed. @Looper714 needed to buy it before either of us, but he went for the poplar! That 2-tone is gorgeous, though.

I'm really liking the Big Leaf Maple, and I love that we can choose Types also, @underdogette @underdog ! Great idea! Can we choose the leather bottom if there is a type choice? Cool either way.

And the Sapele is so rich and sharp!

And the curvy Smash Oak is incredibly dramatic!

And the Blue Mahoe, and the Ambrosia maple that also looks blue!

Yeah we'll probably add a leather selection (or hard bottom) option here shortly as well as an ACXL core option. :cool:
These were the leather choices we had on hand last time I looked.

I certainly will after I get through the learning curve of using the voltage power regulator (I normally set temps between 392-420 depending on desired effects). Mine is due to arrive this Saturday and super excited - any tips would be appreciated!

I like to just keep my alpha at 11.45 volts, for me that gives me avb that resembles 390F on devices with more exact temp control. I would start with that and then adjust the voltage in .05 increments up or down until you get your desired extraction level!
