Underdog Log Vapes

I did a very non-scientific test just now for you and my new Alpha took around 11 minutes to get up to temp at 12v. I dropped it down to around 10v after. That is the temp when I could feel heat back on my face when I blew on the core as Underdogette shows in her videos. The micro took around the same. If you are looking for 5 minute heat-up I don't think you are going to get it in a traditional log unless maybe you ran it higher than 12v at first. I don't like to "overclock" mine though.

Why don't you just turn it on 10 minutes before the movie starts and you will be good to go the whole film. Or get a butane vape to use while you wait. The Alpha monster 18mm NonG holds max .5, normal UD 14mm GonG maybe .15 from my test. Probably half those amounts would be ideal for convection/draw though. A pair of the Alpha NonGs for the movie should be enough I would think unless it is a really boring flick. I can't recommend the Alpha enough though, especially with the $40 matching micro deal if that is still going on. The giant size of the NonGs really makes it a powerhouse.

Really appreciate all of the testing and the info. 11 isn't too bad. I knew the chamber appeared quite large but that is a pretty impressive size. I could probably handle turning it on a bit earlier, especially with the load size bonus. I probably misspoke earlier...I would just have to plan on using it more so. But using the butane while waiting to heat up is a great idea. I know I sound impatient as hell...and you are probably right haha I should just get over the fear of something falling on top of the core and catching fire and leave it on a majority of the time.

One of the Alpha NonGs goes on the inside of the core, the bigger one goes on the outside. I don't have the direct draw stem as they have limited amounts of Alpha stems right now, but if it is like other direct draw UD stems it goes on the inside and will pack less. I'll take some pictures comparing the sizes of the different stems I have and pictures of the Alpha vs regular vs mini later today for you. You don't sound impatient, I am the same way. Definitely sucks waiting on a vape to heat up. I don't leave my logs on 24/7 so I usually will turn them on when I get home along with the EVO. While I am waiting I use the StickyBrick, then the EVO is heated, then the logs are ready. That seems to do the trick . After that the logs are heated up they are instant vape heaven though.

Yeah I understand not wanting to leave them on if you have kids/pets or have a tendency to knock things over. My friend just puts his up somewhere the cats can't reach it, seems to work ok. The nice thing about the VVPS units is that you can get a 15' or 30' long cord. So you can keep the log up in a safe spot normally and just use the super cord to go where you need to when the time comes.

Uh oh, keep us posted. 90% of the problems we encounter are fatigue failures in extension cords (which is why we use them, a cheap easily replaceable sacrificial element) and then wall-warts.. either the cord on those or capacitors inside. Again though keep us posted so we can help you get back up and running if needed.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! My dog is running with no extension cord and the heat is back!! In fact, it does feel a bit hotter in this set-up. I think we have found the culprit. That poor extension cord has been worked to death it appears lol.

I should just get one of your VVPS units. Those are used just to dim, correct?

Happy to help! Good to know it was just the extension, way cheaper/easier to replace that than the whole power supply.

Yes our VVPS units are only used to 'dim' (ie, lower) the voltage/heat level. Simpler and more robust that way.

But for a heavier user, the small load size and tendency to cool down after a few consecutive hits always left me wanting just a tad more... this new Alpha though... wohhhh!

For a heavier user, more couldn't be asked! The larger stem size satisfies my desire for larger hits and so far I haven't noticed any cool down that was apparent with the older style core... needless to say, this guy is happy. Bravo!

I have had one of those in my shopping cart several times over the last week. I need a vvps for my current dog. I go to the website and again have to look at that alpha. Then I see they now have a free vvps with your order. My brain is now divided, so to speak lol. One side says you came here to spend $40 on a vvps, do the practical thing and make that purchase. On the other side though, its telling me, look you want a new dog and this alpha looks awesome and you get the vvps for free. Then I see the wonderful folks at UD are giving a pretty big discount on a micro dog to go with it.

The competition in my brain is fierce lol. What to do, what to do???

Been away for so long and missed so many improvements. That Alpha Dog does sound great. I have been a heavy user....for over 50 years.
Dave and Amanda do an incredible job with product development and quick service. They always have been and will always be that way.
The UD with all the improvements and stem choices is hard to beat.

Hey Dogs and Dogettes, we're in the home stretch of getting out of the house/shop and doing pretty well but haven't had much time to post lately. All customs are now done and out of the shop so I'll be closing it down over the coming week. It's kind of a cool trip down memory lane unplugging machines and cleaning out the shop that's been going almost 24/7 for the past 5+ years. I hadn't really thought we'd made that many memories in this space but I guess I was wrong.

Anyways I can see that you all have things well in hand in our absense and as usual you're all being a great bunch of Dogs. No torn up couch cushions, no one digging in the garbage, no barking.. good Dogs!

I'll definitely have 'fun' doing all the catch up work that will certainly pile up lol. It seems like every year we're busier than I've ever expected to be, not a bad problem to have I suppose huh? All those Dog lovers out there keep us plenty busy and then add in doing rebuild or maintenance jobs for Zap users and the occasional PD/etc it's crazy busy at times.

The thought of an Alpha has been plaguing me the past few days... Was almost sold on another desktop unit (flowerpot - traitorous, I know) but I don't care anymore and just want a sweet, high surface area dog.

One question though. For those lucky enough to have an Alpha and a vapcap... you wanna just give it a good ole try for the curious over here?

Standard dogs are JUUUUUST a tad too small. I'm sure(don't quote me....) the tip fits in the port of the alpha, I'm just curious if it will get to temp in there

ok so on my beta-alpha stem (lol) the vapcap is like flush, maybe 1mm too big to fit.

i believe these were the stems that fit INSIDE the alpha heating port... so I'm going to assume it'll work...?

i guess the standard UD heating port was a lot more of a mismatch than I had remembered...

A vapcap cap is about 9~10mm ID, for reference. if someone has a more accurate way of measurement and cares more than I do I'm sure we can get exacts. I'd rather just actually test it rather than fuck around measuring things


edit: it'd totally fit if i pushed... if the beta stems sent out were indeed the ones that go inside the heater port i think we have a winner

If a VC were to fit well enough to be used in that manner on a regular basis...I think I've just found the last tidbit to push me into getting the alpha. VC compatibility would be a huge plus for me.

Agreed! I know that I can by an WoodScents if I want a VC compatible log vape, but I love my Underdog and I love the customer service behind it even more. A VC adaptor for the standard Underdogs or a VC compatible Underdog would be a dream come true!

Thanks for testing that! Just so I have a better understanding of the sizes...the VC has a smaller outer diameter and fits inside of the Alpha Core, correct?

I have Underdogs and I have Vapcaps but don't see how using a vapcap with a 'dog would be an improvement over using a 'dog and 'dog stems or the vapcap with a torch.
