question for Australian users,

do you guys leave yours on 24/7? While I'm confident that the underdog has no problems being left on, I am more concerned about the US to AU electrical adapter.

I want to get an underdog for my dad after seeing how bad he was coughing today, but he would only use something if he can use it whenever he wants (the 5-20 min warmup time would be too long for him to stay away from his greens).

as long as you get a decent adapter you should be fine, coming from an electrician.

I have left mine running for a few weeks straight & like a bad influence friend it was always ready to party.

Think of a log vape heater as having a finite heater life span measured in hours of operation. Leaving it running lowers the life span but that is a trade off some are willing to make. These are not fragile easily broken units but when the heater goes it goes & can be rebuilt.

One of the cool things with a 12v log vape is the sheer number of power options available & there is something for every occasion. I run the following power options

  • Lab Power supply. This is my workhorse & it is a bit bulky but you don't notice it under the coffee table.
  • Couple of standard 1-2a 12v wall adaptors. One was an old modem power supply but chances are you have something suitable in a junk draw or something.
  • 12V car adaptor. Perfect for on the road log vaping is that is your thing.
  • 12V rechargeable sealed lead acid battery paired with a 2.1mm jack to alligator clips. This is the ultimate camping setup as it will power a log for 200+ hours. The battery itself is around 3x2x6" so it is not large but rather heavy for it's size.
When I ordered my UD I specified not to send a power supply as not only does it add bulk to an already expensive to freight package but you can buy one on Ebay for $10 with AU plugs. If you are getting a VVPS with yours get a bigger PS so you can experiment.

I don't recall ever hearing anyone regretting their UD purchases as it just works & works very well indeed. If your old man likes to keep things simple he will love a UD.

Heya Dogs, it's been a flurry of raising puppies, babying the sick underdog, cranking out Dogs as fast as the orders come in and trying to find the next place to call our home while surviving the California heat wave recently. As such we haven't had as much time to follow the forum as we usually do but it looks like you're all doing a great job of holding down the fort while we're away. Best behaved pack of dogs ever.

There shouldn't be any serious concerns regarding running an Underdog 24/7 other than the wear and tear to the wooden body and the heating element both of which have finite lives. There are sizes/shapes/species and core options that are better suited to 24/7 use though. Underdogette can go over them with you if you want just send her a message.

Well said sir.

I've been very absent from this site. Life has been a little crazy lately. Hope all is well in underdog land! Much love to all!

Long time no see man, welcome back! Hope all is well with you and yours.

The Underdogs seem super popular, and once I started looking into it I realized I mainly used my old SOLO from the couch anyway so it wouldn't be a big difference.

But watching the youtube videos, is it right that you have to reload the stem after every single hit? That seems really tedious.

stainless tips, for me, offer 2 or maybe 3 hits. the larger glass stems/gongs offer double that for me. think of a one-hitter and a bowl. and since log vaporization is so efficient and strong, this is works for me when I want to get medicated. blowing out the avb and sucking preground herb into the stem/*ongs is pretty easy so it's not an issue reloading if ever I need to.

I hear what you guys are saying and it makes sense, but to me if I'm reloading the thing every few puffs then it's really going to interrupt watching a show or talking with friends or whatever else I'm up to. If I'm not getting at least 10 minutes of puff time without needing to change something, I think it's probably not a good fit for me.

Log Vapes (pretty much all of them) are designed for maximum efficiency and as such typically have very small bowls good for anywhere from 1-5 hits per stem load (depending on which size stem and how it's loaded).

A lot of people will load all the stems they plan on using then you can just use one till it's spent, blow the ABV out and then switch to the next stem and repeat as necessary. If that's not the kind of experience you're looking for then a Log very well might not be your cup of tea. :2c:

I'm with @underdog on the multiple pre-loaded stems........I have a nice little collection of their custom wood stems with stainless steel roasting tips. Altogether I have about 8 of the small stainless tips, and when I have friends over, I'll just load a bunch, lay them out and let them help themselves. Since I'm fortunate enough to own multiple logs, I sometimes will have 2 or 3 warm and ready on the table. Two hits will take care of me for several hours.

I pretty much only use my logs, Vapcaps and handmade portables these days. At home, when it's time for some serious couch lock, nothing beats a warm log. As a bonus, the pay for themselves over time with consumable savings.

The Log vape may not fit for you but the UD is such a fantastic vape. I use it more than any other. I think you may be surprised. With the UD a little goes a long way, especially with the ss tip stems.

Actually I find my UD is the most convenient to use of any of my vapes. It's always on (at least mine is), loading a stem is super easy, you can use a water pipe or use the direct draw stems, and one of my favorites is using it with a j-hook and an ash catcher, hard to beat that.

Hey Dogs, hope you're all doing well out there and that your summers are off to a good start.

I wanted to give you all heads up that our move is rapidly approaching and that while between shops we won't be able to do any custom pieces until we're back up and running after the move is complete.

I suspect that the tear down, move and getting set up in a new production location will take from 3-6 months and I suspect that once we're back up and running that we'll have a back log on custom orders. Not sure what that backlog will be but I'll take a wild guess and say 3 months. Those two factors combined means we'll likely be looking at 6-9 months delay in getting new custom work into your waiting hands.

The good news is that I should be able to do the shop tear down as the last step in our move prep so we should be able to churn out customs until the end of next month (July). So if you've been wanting a custom and don't want to wait the 6-9 months then I'd advise you get your order to us post-haste so we can do it before we tear down and move.

Also I think there's a good chance that wherever we end up (still working on that) will cost us more than (mostly dirt cheap) NorCal in terms of shop expenses and as such there might be a bump in prices on custom work. I don't expect the price of standard pieces and Vape Specials to rise, just customs since they eat up so much more time and resources than the rest.

So again, if the anticipated delays and potential price increase are concerns you might want to get your order in to us as soon as possible so we can get it done before the tear down.

If you have questions or want to get your order in before the line starts growing just message them to Underdogette and she will take great care of you as always. Otherwise we'll see you on the other side.

Oh forgot to mention earlier we've got lots of good stuff lined up for the 710 special coming up as mentioned before but I've also got the pre-production run of Alpha parts done so those will be available to those of you who got on 'the list' with Underdogette.

If any are left over after Underdogette has gone down her list we'll put them up on the site for grabs.

Good luck with the move! Hope you end up in a place you really enjoy.

Thanks man! That's the hope... :)

We love it, its not hot like our fear was , its smooth and tasty, lot nicer than volcano.
So far liking the nylon stem, whats everyones preference with stems, nongs and gongs.
As I didn't really know what to expect with different stems I will be doing an order soon for a selection and some more screens.
Thanks so much @underdog and @underdogette for been so patient and helpful :)

It's funny how a lot of us UD uses didn't think we would like the nong as much as we do, but yeah, it's pretty awesome.

Lately I've been using a glass stem into a small bubbler I leave dry. It's funny looking to someone who has never vaporized before, but everyone I share it with enjoys this method more than direct draw. It's very very smooth. And they all marvel at the flavor of it.

I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for posting and letting us know. Also, if that's your backyard, it's gorgeous!
