Going exotic is always well worth it, I actually upgraded from my recent Red Elm purchase to an gorgeously dense Osage Orange pup instead, and I've been breaking it in over the last couple weeks. I'll be posting pics and thoughts soon as I find the time...

Some of the woods tighten up on the core as they age and some loosen a bit instead.. either way it shouldn't present any issues at all. The only exception to that would be if you inadvertently twisted the core inside the body which could cause the wires going from the core to the power plug to short or break.
If you're handy you could always put another snap ring in the top which sometimes helps tighten things back up, or you could send it to us and we could do it.. but again, it shouldn't be a problem.

I used to do 12.8 with glass, but recently been just using the direct nylon stem on 12 just out of laziness ( ◕ ◡ ◕ )

IME ambient temperature, screen height, draw rate, moisture content and size of load will all contribute to what voltage will be ideal for you to use. However, to answer your question I go with 13v because I like to get my ABV to a fairly dark colour. FYI I use my pup exclusively with the old style long glass GonG and a bubbler.

I really like what's going on with that ambrosia maple. And with @KidFated.'s piece. Beautiful.
Just ordered this amazing piece. Finally something that i can have sit out all the time and not raise any questions. Thank you Dave and everyone else at underdog vapes for bringing this art into the vape world. Right now I'm more anxious to photograph this then anything! Then i'll take it for a test drive
