Underdog Log Vapes

I've decided I'm going to spend a good 2 months or so with my coco pup before I post a lengthy review, so for now I'll give a quick rundown of my first week with my pup as my sole driver.

This is my first and only vaporizer, so I can't say if it's better or worse than others, but I can say it has easily replaced a lighter! The Vaping experience has been very refreshing and relieving as I was never fond of smoke. The taste of vapor is...on a new level and tastes very similar to hash, a pure oily freshness. I'm pretty sure vapor hits are stronger than smoke hits, too. And the bong water stays extremely clean! It actually takes on a nice hash/vapor smell (after many stem loads) that is somewhat appetizing...I may try drinking it! The hits are very smooth, potent, and tasty. Vaping is hands down better than smoking in my book.

Now to talk about my vape. It's really pretty (sorry I don't have pics, you can check the UD website for glamor shots.) I contacted Dave on this site and we worked out a plan for a custom pup. It's made of my favorite wood, cocobolo, which is a very heavy and beautiful wood from Mexico and Central America. My pup definitely has some heft! And because the wood is so dense and oily, it doesn't need to be finished, so I get to feel the bare heated wood in my hands. Feels nice, man :D. I also like to hold the heating port to my nose and gently exhale and feel the warm air come back at me. I pretend it's dog breath . I got the custom stainless heater. I can't tell it's in there, but I like the peace of mind :peace:. I want my pup to last as long as possible with as little issues as possible.

For the stems: I got two of each of the GonG, nylon, and silicone stems so I could see what I liked best. I think the GonGs are my favorite, but then I have a nylon stem in my hand as I'm typing this. I like the seal of the silicone, but it does feel cheap and it smells funky. I may want to get some of the simple glass stems in the future, but will definitely be getting more GonGs.

I also got a 30' extension cord and I can recommend it to everyone. I can freely roam anywhere in my (small) apartment without unplugging. It didn't even seem to cool my pup down, but I haven't fully investigated into that.

The only thing I'm bummed about so far is that I heard these log vapes were supposed to conserve your stash. My ABV pile is, well, already a mountain. I know I'm definitely at least partially to blame because I've been having so much fun with it, but it still hasn't shocked me with its ability to conserve like I've heard other people report. This could very well be due to the user, though! I'm interested in what I'll have to say in a couple of months. Regardless, it's certainly not worse than smoking.

Here's where I'm going to talk about the customer service. Dave is a really great guy! I mean he's a real person/dog! He really seems to care about providing vaporization more than he does about making profits and making his business bigger. He talks to you like we're all friends and he's the friend that hooks us all up with vaporizers! It feels like the way things should be. :)

So to wrap this up, even though I'm sure I left a bunch out, I guess I'll say if you're combusting and you have the money for a pup, even if you don't think you're interested in vaping, you'd be very wise to get one. I plan to get a few more for backups and travel, etc.

Ok so I figured the forum could use an update on my situation. Last week I got my Underdog, but after a full day of testing was having lackluster results. After trying all the suggestions from the forum, and pulling out my trusty multimeter....It was determined that it was most likely a cold running dog...or a bad power cube.

Contacted @underdog, and within hours of reading my email he had a care package out to me to help get me sorted. Now I have got this thing dialed in to a very nice cloud producing beast! I am blown away by the level of customer service provided by this company. I had already filed for an RMA, and not only did they still help me....they went above and beyond allowing me to really learn my vape. I am very happy that I did not immediately return my dog, and look forward to eventually having a whole pack! I will definitely be saying sayonara to my Pax.

For anyone on the fence about buying an Underdog, come on down off that thing. It is an amazing vape, and on the off chance you have an issue.....I can promise you they will make it MORE than right.

Im really thinking about finally taking the plunge and picking up an underdog. I am rather curious though for those of you who have the VPPS, if you crank it up does your log heat up faster or should I just give it the 45 min to an hour that it needs at normal levels?

@llamaman001 do it man, its one of the best decisions I've ever made! In my experience so far it has the same warm up time....or longer if you set voltage higher.

It's true, I knew Sleepin's unit wasn't heating up, no one would want their money back after using their dog. Especially for the first real time.

@llamaman001 do it. I agree with Sleepin about the heatup time. But you're not recommend to have your UD above 14v very long.

Between how well it functions, how awesome the company is, and how quick they are to help/fix an issue....
There is no way I'd let my dog go!

They are uniquely beautiful, strong, efficient pieces of functional art. Love them.

I don't have a VVPS but my underdog gets up to temp in about 30minutes.

I would only need the vvps to cool down my Pup, It's hot enough with the wall wart. I will say that the Underdog has certainly become my favorite vape. The heat-up time was one of the onlythings that held me back from getting one sooner, now I don't care about the wait as it's not my only vape .

being that it can be left on I plug it in in the late morning when I wake up before making coffee or taking a shower, Hit it with my second cup then it's always ready for a hit until I unplug and take my rest in those wee hours.

What type of dog did you get. How big is he? I haven't heated mine up in while but I'm sure its good in under 15.

I'm thinking about snagging one so I can use the portable vvps system when I go to the beach or camping! I've had a purple days before and while I loved it, it did have its cons such as the temp. From what I've read though it seems the dogs output is much more satisfying and with the advantage of voltage control I think i'm ready!

Hey Dogs.. hope you're all sufficiently fogged up heading into the weekend..

We've been too busy working on various secret projects to post much this week. Also it's spring break and I will have my sharks with fricking laser beams attached to their heads so that's been taking up time as well.

At any rate, just a quick heads up, all custom and website orders for the week have shipped out and it looks like we're all caught up for once. Wooohooo!

Received my water pipe yesterday. Never vaped through one before. So naturally, I was pretty eager to load up the UD's GonG stem and give it a go. Holy shit. I can see what they say about this method removing some of the taste of the vapor, but the size and smoothness of hits you get are fantastic. I was so heavily medicated after 2 full pulls, that I decided to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the first time in years lol.

Glad to see everyone's been having ultimately good experiences with their dogs. Dave makes a great product, and is an upstanding businessman on top of it. Definitely deserves recognition. Fence sitters take notice of these glowing reviews.

when I don't want to wait long, for example I just got home(especially aplicable if I come home at night and want to vape some before going to sleep) I turn up the dial on my VVPS to 14 volts, then after 10-15 minutes it will be hot enough and I turn it back to the desired voltage(13,5 for hash, between 12,7 and 13,1 for weed) and I can start vaping.
if I don't turn it up, that time will be 20-30 minutes I guess, so yes, turning it up makes it heat up faster.

Been lurking and deciding, and I think I'm finally ready to take the plunge and get a dog. One of my nicknames used to be big dog so I think it's only fitting. Took a break from everything, and currently have no equipment after a couple moves across country, and decided to go vape only. I've read through a bunch of pages, but I just want to make sure I got it all down before buying. It seems the twigs run hotter, and I've seen these vvps also get posted. If I want to avoid a vvps for now, should I get avoid a twig and get thick twig or regular? I ask because I really like the rosewood twig currently available. Also, how often to do new vapes get posted, I saw a couple posts about Sundays, but I wasn't sure if that was an every week occurrence or not. Thanks!

Welcome to FC BD! My twig (technically thick twig?) runs just fine without a vvps. Of course, since each one is lovingly hand crafted, there might be very slight variances, but I and others have great success without one.

As far as refreshes, I don't think there is a set time. More of an as needed type thing I think?
