@RUDE BOY I agree on the UD wooden stems, and the Lithe, I loved using my Lithe as a wooden stem, didn't like all the metal taste but wooden stems are just too nice.

I don't taste the metal in the lithe when I use it as a stem since I keep the bud in the silicone bowl.
No wood taste either this way. But that could be due to still smoking evil camel cigarettes or so I'm told (I don't smoke and vape, that's Nasty).

I like the taper of the lithe's as they sit on the 'dog and the draw of the narrower vapor path agrees with me, although the simple glass stems are pretty sweet in their own right.

I'm sure ours look the same when put together, I use the silicone as a bowl aswell.

It may be your taste buds because my Lithe gives a good wood flavor by default and I can distinctively taste the difference. The metal taste isn't a big problem but when you only use glass stems its obviously noticeable.

I do agree with you there, I wouldn't mind seeing a wooden stem with a detachable nylon tip with a formed screen inside and the ability to use silicone tubing to connect it to my classic core.

I would really like to see wooden stems available like the dogs with unique shapes, maybe a contest or something to help create designs.

pupp just arrived at the doorstep, ill take pic for everyone in a few minutes. First impression was this thing is LIGHT and TINY. Only 1/2 the weight of a purple days and smaller as well. Ive got 2 glass dry stems with silicone, a short 14mm gong connection, and a long direct draw 14mm tube for it too. Im running it with a vvps and set it to 12.7 and am going to let it warm up for an hour before testing it.

Overall Im very impressed with the just the look and the feel of it, its a different type of wood than my e-nano so that makes me super happy as well. Now all I need is some underdog butter to put some shine on this thing! Ill be reporting back soon!

Haven't posted in a while and just wanted to share with everybody my Dog and stems. Apologies for the poor photoshopping, but it was done to save myself from the embarrassment of a cluttered desk and done quickly. Anyway, my Dog is a twig made from maple, I believe. Dave can correct me if I'm wrong. It was actually a replacement for a previous fallen (birthday special) dog and has the 5/8" core, an improvement on the previous dog's 3/8" core. Another improvement was the twig design; this is much more easily handled than the full sized birthday dog.

Left to right the stems are: silicone, custom glass, wood/glass/silicone hybrid prototype, direct draw glass, ground glass. Kind of an evolution if you will. For quite some time I used the silicone and custom glass interchangeably, depending on my mood. I now mainly use the silicone in tandem with a water piece because it fits. The glass I still use on occasion, but not much anymore. Not because it isn't awesome because it is. I mean look at that wicked yellow and blue. I just got newer toys that turned my attention. Dave was cool enough to include the prototype stem in an order a long time ago, but its easy to see why they were a short-lived idea. I believe it is basically the simple glass stem with a wood sleeve instead of the tube thing. I don't use it much because the glass is in direct pathway of the airflow which heats up the glass and the wood sleeve insulates the glass disallowing any dissipation of heat. Basically, the mouth end gets too hot for comfort. Certainly interesting and useable, just not my thing. I received the two stems on the right in a recent shipment from Underdog and have really been enjoying them. The GoG is too small for my water piece (hence why I use the silicone), but it is still my go-to stem. The direct draw is great and essentially the same thing, but I prefer the feel of the tapered glass on my lips and its slightly longer so the end is a wee bit cooler.

Anyway, there you have it. Underdog is the best. Paws down.

EDIT: One other thing. I also enjoy the direct draw glass stems because of their looseness around the heating element. I do appreciate the silicone as the dog can tip over without much worry for the stem either damaging or even coming off the dog. However, the direct glass fits loosely so that they can be rotated while vaping to allow for an even draw. One of the minor complaints was the uneven cook of the silicone stems (of course easily remedied by rotating the stems in between draws), so I'm happy for the option.

@SirElton compare the GonG to simple glass straw? Or pretty damn similar? I've been using my gong dry and loving it, debating on picking up some simple glass stems..

Do you have a Classic UD?
I know I'm not SirElton and I'm interested in his outlook on the subject as well, but here's my take.

Simple glass stems are nice but I have issues with the glass being too thin (or silicone to smooth) for it to stay firmly connected to the silicone. After a bit of usage the silicone seems to not stick to the glass and the glass slides around and/or your silicone will slide off. The screens also get moved too easily or the glass will move your screen or move away from it.

Thick silicone stems are really nice as they seem to provide thick heavy hits and for the classic core it fits firm and is unlikely to fall off (disconnect itself) from the heatport.

Shorty GonG works well and great because of the height though the new gong yields good improvements, I believe I had a video in the T-Vape thread using the shorty, but no milk. Its very similar to the current glass stem Dave offers but isn't meant for the formed screen, it hits pretty airy but that is beneficial for bigger loads through water. The screen for the shorty is its biggest downside, I've had my incidents where I am attempting to stir and it topples on me, placing also isn't as great as the formed screen. I do wish there was a shorter current gong.

The current GonG adds length and has a similar fitting to the shorty gong. It uses formed screens which are a huge improvement and allow for the ability to change the screen's position.

TL;DR - ? Silicone encloses on the heatport more firmly than glass creating less excess air being drawn and giving more direct heat with less cool air, I don't believe silicone works the same on new/current models. Just my interpretation, I believe silicone stems to hit similar to nylon stems but with the ability for screen placement.

On a side note, I use the GonG for DD more than for water, and it looks like Elton's stems with silicone are all using thick silicone, I eventually just cut more thick silicone to get smallers pieces to use them with the glass liners as they were more stable for putting in screens and holding the stem. I currently use Hammer OG stems with thin silicone for my UD.

I don't have the standard simple glass stem as advertised on the website. I just have something similar in style with the wooden stem. Personally, I've just been using the GG and not the others much, but I travel light.

@paytonpenn I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but this isn't a classic dog. This has the updated 5/8" 24/7 core. However, it is apparently different in some way because I can't use nylon stems with this dog. Dave can tell you more about how mine is different, but I doubt its anything more than a simple screen placement redesign. And yes, all of my silicone stems use thick silicone. It is far more reliable in every way than the thin type. You're right about the silicone getting hotter, too. I've combusted with the silicone stems before.

My question was towards KidFated. But he wanted to know how the GonG hit in comparison your stems with silicone.

@underdog Can users with a new/current core use silicone stems the same way as the previous generation of cores.

The silicone works with the new style core. I use a short piece of the silicone on a ssv mouth piece for a super short simple glass stem.

IME the silicone makes a better seal around the heater core than the glass stems/gongs giving the bowl a more even, efficient roast. I don't taste silicone unless I leave the stem sitting on the heater cover between hits.

Tragedy struck when my GG stem met the floor. Its now resting in pieces. I'm not too sad over it as I've got others, but its still a shame when that happens.

Always a sad time. Moment of silence for some broken glass....RIP.

Hopefully a proud owner of an adopted dog soon. Now to sift through the last couple hundred pages to find the perfect 18mm GonG adapter and a vvps! Can't wait to fire it up with my new glass I just purchased. I sense foggy days/nights in my future :brow:
