Lookin good are the gongs going to be available in different lengths? How is the screen held in place?

For the most part I plan on just having them in full length size which is 4.75" long.

The above being said we can cut them down if someone really wants us to, I did a few at 2.75" long for a friend a few days ago for example. I'll probably only do that as a 'secret menu' kind of option and charge an extra buck or two per stem.

The screen is held in place by friction of the screen against the glass walls and it can be placed anywhere in the stem. The amount of friction is just right to keep it firmly in place during normal usage but still be easy to move up or down with some intentional force. :peace:

I like to scrape against the screen with my poker to remove particulates often,
I know the screen never dislodged with the WonG or the original GonG stem,
but sometimes it would with those standard silicon stems.

Seems like these might dislodge too? Or maybe I'm underestimating the friction force

I'd say it takes an average of a pound of force to get one of these screens moving which is way more than should be applied in any stiring/poking/accidental contact.. I have yet to accidentally move one.

If you want to evaluate the new stems and report your findings back here PM me and I'll send you a set for testing..

Have you tried flipping the screens around so the side walls of the screen are behind the bowl? I imagine that would be a little nicer and easier to keep clean??

That will work on the straight stems but not the GonG stem because it's constricted slightly at the GonG end so you can't push the screen through that side without damaging it. It my experiments the screen is actually harder to keep clean when flipped around as stuff gets stuck around the edge that way. A little bit counter-intuitive but that's been my experience.

@underdog when do these go live on the site? Will those screens work in the current gong to move the bowl up? I was just on the site and saw you have a stem caddy ... don't know if this is new or I just haven't seen it. Anyway there's no pic can we get a pic please :ninja: I was just thinking how nice it would be to have something that holds all my stems.

Hey MHL, as long as you've got enough length in the end of your GonG, the screen will fit diameter-wise. The screens are about 1/4" tall, so you'll want about 3/4" or so of room between the end of the GonG and the bulge in the glass.

Sorry about the stem caddy picture - I'm not sure what happened! The picture is now back up on the product page.

I'll be putting the new stems and screens up tonight. ;)

Alright, new Direct Draw and new style 14mm GonG stems, as well as new formed stainless steel screens, live on the website. Old style GonG stems discounted, only a few left in inventory. Stems and Related Link

Also, as far as I know... I think these new stems should work on other standard vapes as well, including the HI, Nano, Pre-Rock Zaps (don't think they'll fit Rock Zap or CRZ), Purple Days and Woodeez. If you've got a vape you want to fit it with and you're not sure, just shoot us a message and we'll help you measure first before you buy.

You are amazing underdogette. You read my mind entirely with that post! Order placed, thanks a bunch.

From my understanding 2 of the newer screens are already included in the new 14mm direct draw stem?

As I went to take my first draw from my Dog this morning, I noticed it was cold when I picked it up. I generally leave it on 24/7 attached to my VVPS at 12v when not in use and then crank it up to 13-13.5v when I'm ready to have a session. I noticed the plug from the VVPS was hanging half way out of the wall outlet, but that the LED display was still on. I pushed the plug back fully into the outlet and waited for about 30 minutes. I gingerly touched the heating element and it still felt cold. I thought my PUP was dead! :rip:

I told myself not to panic, that it could be the VVPS that was broken, but couldn't figure why the LED display on the VVPS was working but my PUP wasn't heating up. I dragged out the ever faithful Wallwart, hooked up my PUP and said a prayer. After about 5 minutes, I once again touched the heating element and happily jerked my hand away to avoid being burned!

Long story short: It was obviously a problem with the VVPS (about a year old) and not my PUP. After about 40 minutes, my PUP was warm and foggy again! I am now rewarding him with a nice Underbutter massage! :dog:

We were planning on them shipping with just 1 screen which would be pre-installed.. the picture shows two but that was so people could see better what the screen looked like. :peace:

So far I'm digging the new stems!
OAUpyCQ.jpg

First Impressions:
*The force holding the screen is definitely sufficient.
*I'm not able to move it by picking at the screen to remove particulates.

*The length of the stem for direct-draw is perfect for cooling the vapor down just enough

*I used the 4.75" GonG stem with a small 12" tube and it didn't feel that awkward, despite the length.
*I probably wouldn't mind paying a lil extra to cut them down if I had a really tiny piece though.

I had the screen fairly far back for this video.
So definitely could move it closer for a thicker vapor.
(This was also the first time I used one of the new stems)

Glad you're enjoying the new stems there SD. How do you feel they compare to the various other UD stems?

Oh, I keeping forgetting to add that both of the stems will accept the installation of one of the metal tips from the Nylon Stems for people who want to experiment with or like the smaller bowl. Or who want an all glass/stainless option, etc.

The performance seems pretty identical to the original all-glass stems.

The differences:
-adjustable screen means cleaning is easier
-the adjustable screen means you can alter your vaporizing experience without a variable voltage power supply.

Both positive.

I can't really think of any negatives or other stems that had any advantage over these.
(Besides the invulnerability of silicone)

just my 2c on the differences.
i haven't used the new stems but i find the screen-lock for the original all-glass stems rather easy to clean/maintain cause you just pop them in & out, dump them into the plastic iso-filled tube. so this difference may be marginal to some users.

also, to get to the higher-temp ranges you need more than an adjustable screen, which is where the vvps comes in. using my shorty original glass stem meant that the herb was literally resting on the heat sink of the UD. you cannot get closer or hotter than that using the normal sop plug. so if you want a 'hotter' temp, vvps is a must. of course, if your UD is running hot enough on the sop plug, screen adjustment for softer hits would be great.

I do know, for my log, that using the new stems at the default screen position,
light brown/dark yellow vaped herb was produced

When I move the screen closer, it produces a dark brown/espresso vaped herb.
Both cases this is using a non-variable stock power supply.

That being said,
I definitely believe there's a log that could run cool enough where moving the screen up-close is not enough to produce dark brown high-temp vapor. However, I also believe that it is possible to move the screen closer even though it seems like it's as close as it should get.

Note: I've never combusted with an underdog, but do be wary getting really close with the screen
(if your log does seem to run hotter)

Does that mean they'll fit a CRZ with the stainless tip? I swear I'll get a Dog one day and will quit asking if everything fits others lol.

Yes they'll fit the CRZ when using the steel tip (just like our Nylon Stems do).. but still no all glass GonG stem for the Zaps (ie without a steel tip).

Hey llamaman! They should work with the nano as far as I know... but please let us know if they don't so we can advise people correctly. :)
