Underdog Log Vapes

so i think i found the true issue behind my power supply issue for not too long back when i felt that my material wasn't getting dark enough. i think the power being supplied to my room at home is not as strong as the power in my dorm room at college. the ABV i get with both my bamboo log and twig aren't as dark at home than at school.

looks like i'll have to buy this
http://www.amazon.com/Tekpower-HY-1502-Power-Supply-1-5/dp/B003EGYRP6
that Dave and a few others suggested. However, Dave, you also said that I would need a banana plug with a 2.1mm DC plug on the other. What local store would I be able to find the materials to make this? maybe a Wal-mart? I might just have to buy one off you Dave.

EDIT: by the way if anyone else was looking into buying one of these, i found a supplier on ebay that has it priced for $39.99 + shipping included

Hey HES - those power supplies work great and the price on them isn't too bad either. You can make your own cable assembly by using banana plugs attached to a 2.1mm plug/wire which usually come in 6' lengths. You might be able to find this stuff at Radio Shack (or that type of store), it's unlikely you'll find them at other retail type places. You can also order all the components from electronics supply house (like Jameco, DigiKey, Mouser) but I think some of them might have minimum orders that might be a problem. Lastly, you could buy it directly from me, they aren't on the website but I do have the necessary pieces to make them here. I sell the completed assembly for $7.99 + $2.75 shipping if you want to go that route.

thanks Dave and OTA. i think i'll stop by a radio shack on my way back to school today and see if i can find the pieces for the cable assembly. if not, i'll shoot you an e-mail about buying a completed assembly.

Sounds like a good plan HES, also as OTA pointed out you can do without the banana plugs if you really want and instead just use the sockets on the power supply to 'clamp' down on the exposed ends of the wires themselves.

More Dogs being born here today, six more going into the incubator in a few minutes: Movingui, Red Oak, Mahogany, Claro x2, Figured Ash. Getting close, close, close to the website refresh...

Thanks HES, I'll send you a response.

Out of here for the rest of the night but back on the job tomorrow.

The last 5 pieces for the refresh came out of the shop today and into the incubator. For all those who have been holding your breath, Friday will be the magic day, the day that the new pieces go up on the site and the day I'm officially caught up.

Horribly late absence from this forums I do apologize to everybody (mostly Dave) but I was getting acquainted with my new UD. Dave was generous enough to carve this piece specific to fit in my cup holder of my VW Touareg. By doing this it completely eliminated my needs for some other rechargeable vaporizers that I previously owned that was my daily driver (which was getting to be a pain). My car is no longer having to stop and recharge only repack it:brow:

Dave I love this vaporizer and although it took some time getting used to this new core; it still gives me the classic UD rips. I think muse already told you but I ended up combusting with my birthday vape using the new power cord you gave me, what he probably didn't tell you is I plugged it into this new core vape and it delivered awesome rips 0% combustion so I will not be playing with fire anymore

Some great improvements I've noticed from my previous birthday UD would be right off the bat the glass stems. Not only are they cheaper but also much more easier to clean or extract. Although the stem assembly is still the same for this glass, the smaller screen size I also see as a major improvement as it makes changing stems a literal 2 second process.

Also to anyone who is on the fence about a car adapter for their UD don't think twice.
The car adapter is very heavy duty, worth the $17 coming with metal tips not that cheap plastic and coiled cord so long someone could hit my UD standing outside my car several feet away.
Here are some pics of my new vape in action and I will try to find some time to upload a video or two:

Great Scott!
I think it is INCREDIBLY interesting to know that Joe leaves his vape plugged into the car AND HEATING 24/7 and it hasn't messed with his car's battery at all. I was surprised to hear that honestly but that is one nice setup.

Better late than never Joe. I don't want to promote driving intoxicated (nor start that discussion in this thread), but that is a nice custom UD indeed.

I wish my bike had a 68Ah battery

Or perhaps not, considering the weight :)

In what way did you have to get used to the new core if I may ask, is the airflow to restricted for your taste perhaps?

A little warning to the hard-core koozie enthusiasts, my UD got left sandwiched between two pillows last night as I was sleeping and the little twig got so exponentially hot that there are visible blackened char marks on the outside.

Also, this is the second time after getting left koozied for too long that the power-plug has become super loose, to the point where gravity can pull it out quite easily.

With all that though, the twig is still vaporizing and doesn't taste off from charred wood (that I can notice)

Same core here, but I don't notice any restriction at all really and I've used his and my prototype cores.

Yay SD, that could have ended nasty. Too bad about your UD but glad you didn't wake up in a burning bed, be careful pls :uhoh:

Darkrom, I was told it had a little more restrictive draw than the old core, that's why I asked. But I consider it a good think you don't experience it that way, thanks.

I switch between my 2 styles of cores and don't really notice that much of a difference other than the new one running way hotter. They both perform very well for me :)

@ Joe - hey dude, thanks for the review and glad you're liking the Dog and that it's working well in your car.. looks like a nice fit, is the plug height in a good spot?

@ darkrom - a car battery can hold an amazing amount of power and the UD doesn't take that much in the big picture of things so it's probably not depleting the battery much. Of course if Joe doesn't have the car running often enough or long enough to put the charge back in he could find himself with a low battery after days or even weeks without ever realizing it's happening, probably not but possible.

@ SD - yikes, careful with the koozie effect there dude.. as you discovered it can eventually cause overheating! I sent you an email directly too.

Working working working here as is the norm the last few weeks, plugging away getting these pieces ready for the 4/20 website refresh. Good stuff!
