Crazy thought. What about some kind of additional electrical heater you could flip the switch and pre-heat the core? Then when you are ready to use it a min or 2 later just shut it off and use the TV base to heat it as normal, with some heat already built up in and around the core, but far lower than vaping temps.

So, I just posted some preliminary testing stuff on the Pipes Power Adapter for the T1 I just did. I also used his adapter to couple the 6 Volt, 3.3 Amp supply from Jameco to the Evolution (and also Revolution and DART). It works great!

Owners might want to go read about it and consider getting one???

I just got my Evo in the mail!

I took it out, put in the batteries and started it just to see the red glow, and it smells like burning rubber/material. Is this normal?

that does not sound normal to me, are you sure there isn't any packaging or scraps down in the heat core? A slight metallic smell at first is common, as the coil oxidized and breaks in, but not a rubber smell. Hmmm anyone else experience this? I have 2 of them and didn't get any bad smells at all. Might want to contact TV directly on this.

It's hard to say if it's a metallic smell or a rubber smell, but there is definitely a smell. The odour goes away once its cooled down but I tried it 3 times for 15 seconds and it's there everytime... Maybe it's just like you said Jam. Does it go away eventually?

If it is the coil being new, yes, the oxidizing goes away after a few uses. Again, I did not experience any funny smells with either of mine, so I can't say for sure what your issue is. You might want to call TV and ask them about it.

I'm now at 8 tries and it's still there. wtf? I contacted TV by email, we'll see. But I am really disappointed right now. I refuse to try vaping anything while that smell is there.

Hard to say from here for sure, but I'd be flat out amazed if you have the only known contamination issue. Anything is possible, of course, but the odds are pretty steep, really. It's been run maybe half a dozen times by a couple different guys in the process, you'd think it'd be noticed for sure. It should smell like a new toaster at first, but rapidly go to even less smell. I've tested a dozen or more T1 and Evolution cores, lots of them low powered LV versions that got 'cooked' for abnormally long times trying to get them to work. They all smelled alike to me (very minor at first), then again the wire came off the same spools, the parts from the same boxes and the cleaning and assembly processes basically the same for each.

After the first few uses, they seem to blend in with the older ones.

Hard to resolve, but again, I'd be very surprised if there is a problem here. Good luck.

Upon further inspection in better light, I can see a very small patch of whatever-it-is directly on the threaded bottom, looks like a spot reminiscent of a dry water spot, maybe glue. Whatever it is, it's impossible that if my Evo was tested, as you say, half a dozen times, that no one noticed this smell!

EDIT: here is a pic of the spot that I suspect may be causing the odour. I'll wait until TV replies before trying to clean it.

Well, actually no, I wouldn't. Contamination 'burning off' should be getting less and less (in fact, heating in vacuum to "outgass" materials is an established UHV technique for that very reason). If the smell is not going away and you're not adding more stuff there to evaporate off something strange indeed is going on.

I'm not sure what I'd be thinking past 'this is extremely strange and ought to be replaced with one that's normal'.....

During the assembly of the Evolution we will incorporate small amounts of Vegetable Glycerin as a lubricant during pressing. We make an effort to burn off any remnants of the VG fluid but there is sometimes a little bit left. VG is very safe and is totally safe to inhale.

We do NOT use any glue in the assembly of our heaters, everything is pressed together to eliminate glues and solder.

I will for-see your e-mail to make sure you get one your happy with, I'd like to examine your core to see what exactly is going on

I noticed this smell as well, I thought it was mineral oil. An ISO soak and warm water rinse removed it easily. This is not a problem folks . . .

Came up with a cool way to carry a little stash to use with the Evo. I bought this vial from Specialty Bottle, which is a great size to carry with you to tap fresh herbs into the Evo. I then took a bamboo skewer and cut it off just a bit shorter than the vial. I then took the pointed end and pushed it into the cork cap of the vial. Now I have a vial for my herbs with a built-in stirrer (sharp end) / tamper (dull end). The tamper also helps to feed the herbs into the Evo chamber. Voila!

Incidentally, I got another identical bottle for abv. Now I just need a battery case and some sort of bag to hold it all, and I will have a solid out-and-about vape system.

Good to know T-dub. So I just soak the whole core in Iso? I have Ethanol rubbing alcohol, will that do?

Sure, give it a good soak then a really good hot water rinse, or you can boil it if you really want (I didn't), then dry it out really well (blow water out of bottom of core at the very least, I let mine air dry overnight) and give it a whirl. If it doesn't work, then you will know for sure something is up.

If you just run the device flat out, without actually drawing air through it, over and over, this may reduce functional life (the air flow through the device cools the coils and reduces thermal stress on the core).

Just read this in the original Thermovape thread... damn I hope I didn't damage it. I gave it about twenty-15 second no-pull runs to try and burn off the glycerin).

Hey guys. I registered for this forum to ask you guys a question. I recently discovered the field of portable vapes, and I've done some research and decided to go with either the T1 or the Evolution (I'm pretty sure they're both sold at my head shop, I'm checking for sure tomorrow because i can't get it mailed in as my parents don't even know i smoke at all). Anyway, since i haven't had any personal experience with either idk which one I should go for. I don't plan to mod either one of them at all, and ill probably be toking with one or two other people like 30 percent of my blazing time. Which one should i go for? Thanks for anyone who can help me make this decision lol

Well... they each have their caveats. Depends on what you want, really. The T1 has a larger load capacity, and can provide bigger hits (though the Evo is no slouch either). However, the Evo has a smaller load size, and doesn't require stirring. I think the Evo is less suited to use in a group setting than the T1, though.. but neither are ideal for that.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either. I still prefer my T1 most of the time, but the Evo can be fun to mess around with.

In my area, its pretty hard to find a spot to smoke anything. All i want is something i can use to smoke with a couple of my friends and privately toke with on a weekend basis, possibly a few days during the week. I would assume the evo would be the lesser of two evils for more than one person due to the battery life. If the evo isn't a slouch i don't see a reason not to get it over the TI. Thats what my confusion is about lol
