I just wanted to ask a little advice from the current EVO owners and maybe Tim also.
3.7v kit or 6v kit? What are the advantages/disadvantages to each?
Hold the button the whole time you have a sesh, or is there a pulse or timing button pressing situation?
Also, stacked batteries can have issues, what safety features are built into the EVO? Does it have shut down protection? Does it have a vent hole for the venting of battery gases?
Welcome to the fun and games, you're in the right place. I doubt there's more than a very few of us that don't come from a strong combustion background. Smoking is a natural way to get involved and you have to be pretty committed to get into gear and techniques like these. You're on track. Most of us have 'been there and done that'. Aside from the social issues (smell and all) you'll also find your lungs forgiving you in part, the high more 'pure' and your ability to 'maintain' greatly improved, but your wallet will gain weight as you spend less for herb. I'd say on average maybe a third of blazing? What you think about that estimate over all guys?
As to specific advice, for a 'ground up' kit, I'd recommend the LV version. One battery not two and longer battery life. The Standard heats a few seconds faster, but waiting that few seconds for the LV to catch up has more benefits to offer.
Yes, I key it on for the whole hit. Maybe 30 or a little more seconds from cold, a little less when already warm. The key is to have more heat than needed stored in the core to tap on demand later. Waste a little power, there are other rewards, and just have a charged battery available a bowl or two earlier until you get the hang of things.
The LV battery is protected from harm and there's only one. The two special chemistry cells to make the Standard Voltage version are also protected, such cells have never been known to cause issues. And yes, there's an appropriate vent it the corner of the battery tube bottom, the top of the tube is also open. There is no electronics in the supply (part of it's strength IMO), only a simple but very robust switch. But IMO none is called for in this design and simple makes it reliable.
Yer gonna love it.
Maybe I just got lucky, but my first omi carts were 4ohm and I had no problems. YMMV.
Well being lucky beats being sneaky.....
I tend to think most carts are 'no problem' cases. This here internet distorts reality big time. An often questionable comment or 'fact' put forward by a guy not even using his real name is taken as Gospel by well intentioned guys looking to 'get over' by knowing the real truth ahead of the rest. All very natural, but often kinda flawed in results.
Take the taste issue in point. There probably is no such thing as no taste or completely safe. Look at the number of guys who refuse to have anything to do with gear that has any butane in it. Or anything not certified as the only acceptable type of glass anywhere near hot air. Good for them, but for the rest of us if we follow them we miss out on some neat gear. So one guys raises the issue, before many miliseconds pass guys who've never puffed on one are experts telling us how they need this or that. This also is natural, but further clouds the truth if there is any. Little black and white, but all the gray you could hope for. And enough smoke and mirrors thrown up for various reasons to make even a little objective observations dicey sometimes.
We're letting other people do our observations and make our conclusions for us, seldom a good idea IMO. But once again, it seems human nature at some point.
And, of course, everyone's special these days.......
Ain't life grand? I like it anyway. If it's true 'out of chaos comes order', it must still be on the way?
