Discontinued Thermovape Cera

Sawweeet! Another OF mystery scavenger hunt with absolutely no hope of ever getting the confirmation that we are correct! :)

I'm sorry you don't approve, and I think it's definitely not my hunt......but yours. I gave my word, and AFAIK that detail of the IP has value, IMO staying mum is simply the right thing to do.

As I understand it, patents prevent you from making and selling the product using the protected technology but you can make one for personal use. In a parallel process, Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) protect other details (such as this one) on a wider basis. NDAs work on a different level, there's the rub here?

I do think it's fair to say that design of the carts was refined around that size wire. Both Nate and Noah said as much here. Unless you use that same diameter, and close wind it on the right size mandril you'll never get the center connection on the heater to work. Unless you do that you'll need to redesign the cart in that area.

Tell ya what, you in the US? If so PM me your name and address. I think I have a couple of scraps of the wire left over from the coil winder project. If I can find them, I see no problem with giving some to you. It won't tell you any more than tearing apart a cart would really. To be honest, the stuff it brutal to work with (as you may soon find out), I seriously doubt it'll do you much good. But there's the offer......if I can find the box of rejects........

No rub at all OF...please re-read with a healthy dose of sarcasm ;)

I do however think that we will see the proper wire found and a technique to 'repair' them into a workable fashion. You are definitely right in saying it won't be perfect and is likely to have issue but that hasn't stopped anyone on this board yet. :)

I've got a mint condition Cera with two EO and a LL cart that I'd love to see working long term :)

(edit) OF, 100% behind folks respecting IP and NDA...on top of giving their word that they would keep the secret. It was obviously worth something to someone right ;) (cough RJR)

I've had my Cera (EO and LL) for a little over a year and a half. I only recently found out about TET shutting down and I'm a little bummed. i want to do what a lot of you guys are doing and prolong its life span by using it less. what affordable personal vapes are you guys recommending for EO in its place?

Your EO cart will probably last a lot longer if you're careful to keep it clean. They tend to die from contamination rather than say the heater wearing out. Use high quality extracts and boil/soak it clean often would be my advice there.

I suspect most guys looking for clouds and clouds go to SR71 or Hercules from D9? For my more modest tastes I kinda like some of the LAYG offerings from Dabbler, and the KISS from D9 but that too gets you into a different thread type like the other D9 products. If you look around a bit, Titanium elements and ceramic cores are 'out there'.

thank you so much for the advice. first thing i did when i found out TET closed shop was boil my heating core and soak it in iso.

so to sum it up: boil, then iso, then boil again and let dry overnight, for both the CERA EO and TV Revolution? How do you know when the core is completely dry?

Yep, good drill IMO. Boiling gets more out faster (in the first pass) than ISO soaks. So boil first. The second boil eliminates any ISO left behind.

I usually 'test' by dry firing the core quickly. Water still inside will boil quickly and hiss and pop. If I can heat for several seconds without that, I'm good to load.

LL cores seem to dry easier/faster than EO ones. I also got into the habit of putting them face down (connector up) on a paper towel, I think that helps too.

Thanks, OF, they both seem to be running fine at the moment. Is there any downside to continuing to use as is? How will I know when it's time to clean them?

You're welcome. Your call on how many hours you put on them. I backed off on mine for daily use, but still enjoy them when the mood strikes. Which is kinda cool in it's own way I think.

LL cores can go a very long time with routine wiping (paper towel) and pipe cleaner (for the 'UFO' ports) action. EO cores I judge by performance (both vapor production and taste) against appearance of the top plate (it should be slightly 'wet' looking). If it starts to 'taste dry' (but isn't) and slow down (production wise) quickly after topping up it's time to get suspicious. Keeping .2 grams or so (from clean) should normally give top performance with good oils. When it gets down to that I usually add 1/3 to 1/2 a gram if things are right.

I usually use CO2 oils (which I understand vary) which pass the foil test walking away. If I'm careful I can get half a dozen or more grams through between cleanings. I did go through a lot of 10 very nice grams of OG Kush oil without stopping once (the record for me). I tried one, loved it, and raced down the next morning to open the joint up for 'em and clean out the OG Kush oil locker. It took me a lot of vaping to use it up, but it's amazing what you can accomplish if you put your mind to it and have the right tools......

I find the topic at hand (the relativity of Noahs actions) to be subjective.. It may be next to useless information now. But at one point in time that was a different story.....Anyways

I will say, at the very least, it is interesting to finally know a little more about what was going on with T.E.T. during its lifespan, as well as the patent related issues that I had/have much curiosity about. (TET, sadly, seems to have been ahead of its time) It was sure nice while it lasted though :rip:

Has anybody figured out how to or sourced the proper materials to rebuild an EO cart?
Or is it not possible to do at home?

No , and no.

The first is based on my memory of what's been posted here. The second is my opinion. Given the right tools and materials there are a few guys with training and experiece that could but most of us lack those 3 things. Once you have the wire and ceramic in hands you can give it a try, but you'll need them before you start since both will be destroyed in the pull down. Some top plates were salvaged (flamed clean) but the cores are generally a loss, as is the heater wire itself.

Treat them gently (feed them only 'the good stuff'), keep them clean and enjoy them while you can is the best advice I have to offer. Rebuilding, at least for now, doesn't seem to be an option.

So my cera has been sitting for months without use....a really long time. The other day I thought why not bust it out. We'll to my surprise it barely works. I loaded a dab up on to it, tried to melt it down and after about a minute, it had barely melted and was only producing a faint Vapor. I got a fresh battery out of the charger and same thing. I can only get tiny tiny wispy hits. Anyone got any idea what's wrong with it or if I can make it work. Would love it if I didn't have another reaper weight on my hands.

'Trying to melt it down' won't cut it. It has to be absorbed. How was it stored? Was it clean or with very clean concentrate?

I'd start by cleaning it. Until you get that changed to 'half a gram absorbed into the core' you're not going to succeed. The top surface of the plate just doesn't get that hot by design.

Good luck with it, but I'd be thinking boil/soak/boil.......

I wanted a cera too. I only hear great reviews and a lot of sad Thermovape customers. I always breeze the classified but most have minor defects. When I can find one in mint condition, I'll spend a little $ to try it. I currently have the Persei and herc 74x and I love it. But my curiosity keeps pushing me to the cera. Not looking for loose leaf but essential oil like you.

Thank you very much, why did thermistor stop the production of the Cera? Is ther a better set up for essential oil other than the persei?

They are out of business. I overheard they sold some of their patents to big tobacco RJR. I wasn't around too, but have been using the Persei with the herc 74x. It is awesome and delivers flavor. My suggestion to you is buy the omicron lite with a ti gr2 kiss cart or globe (both are awesome) at 3.7v. It is my favorite portable setup for concentrates
