Discontinued Thermovape Cera

Personally, I think they gave up on the Thermovape Revolution too early. As good as the Cera is, the revolution remains one of my favorites

I agree. DART remains an all time favorite personally. Not enough difference between it and Revolution to worry about IMO. Both tough to build, but solid performers done right.

Unfortunate it (and others of 'the old products' like T1 and Evolution) died in the birth of Cera but you have to play the hand as the cards are dealt.

At a manufacturing level 'the new stuff' is radically different, pity the old stuff wasn't 'spun off'.....

Good thought, Revolution/DART is clearly a cut above the rest and will be sorely missed by some of us.

Nopartofme thank you so much. Now that the thread size has been confirmed for me, all of us with TET gear. Need new cartridges. I imagine our bodies will last but our cartridges will take a beating over time.

Just an idea, but TET's bodies can still survive.

I will be researching cartridges with 3/8-24 thread size from now on. Please join the hunt and let's keep TET Gear alive ! :-)

Sorry to discourage you, but don't quit your day job. There are no other carts with that thread. It's unique to TV. Seriously. They hoped it would be adopted based on the success of Cera. Nobody is going to make a cart for which there is no battery to thread it onto I think.

I also think that most likely any similar 'upgrade' in the industry would be metric sized (like all other vape carts, including TV's early efforts).

It would be nice, of course, but I frankly don't think it's a very realistic possibility to stumble on such a cart. Thread adapters are a better path I think.

how can something so great go away?

Life is not fair. Let's be glad we had it? And the seeds are planted, hopefully the next maker down the road can build on that? Remember what Newton said, 'if I see further than any man before, it's because I stand on the shoulders of giants'. In the long run TV may well be the foundation on which even greater vapes are built.

Although the above might also be a political statement? I agree, it's very important to vote......I will be.

Ok
It's been a very long time since I posted anything here on FC but I just felt like I had to share my experience with everyone, just in case I may help anyone who has the same problem as me...
I've had a Cera since the very begining --I mean like one of the first 20 or so ever-- and went through all the teething problems, but Cera performed fine for months after a new switch and getting the laser welded strap. Until one day the new strap burned out at the top, I think the welds were too close together as after getting a new strap again the tiny weld dots were much more evenly spaced.
But alas even after a few attempts she was never the same again. It came back DOA the first time and the second return lasted about 3 hours before it too died once again. This time at the bottom where the switch ring screws in, the copper strap is crinkled looks like it caught when the ring was pushed onto the bottom of the tube and broke.
I am ok with all of this even though I will never get it properly repaired and this is the secret I wan't to share. :2c:

I followed OF's suggestion a while back when people started having strap problems to determine if it was the strap indeed, in fact my work around actually evolved from the simple experiment to prove the location of the fault.
My first attempt was simply a length of 0.64mm copper telecom cable with about 5mm (1/8" i think) striped bare on both ends, and held one end hard against the switch housing and a 90 degree bend on the other to poke the bare copper into one of the set screws at the other end to complete the circuit. Now this worked ok to prove the fault, but was not a permanent solution, onto version 2, 3, and 4 all using the same theory but slightly different combinations of wire/design. Again they all worked but still lacked full power. Version 4 was the best for my E-cig cart but the 1.5mm steel wire just had too much resistance and would heat when powered for much longer (I.E. with the LL cart).
So onto version 5 which I actually thought to take pictures of:

UgpFeDw.jpg

Yes it is quite ugly but it really has grown on me in a steam punk kind of way :mental:

BUT... most importantly it works. I have used a 2mm copper welding rod ground the end on the bend down to a fine long point that fits inside the set screw and filed a flat side down the bottom to meet the steel ring. The more astute will have noticed the little bit of solder I used to get the best connection I could at this point. Let me tell you soldering to stainless is a feat unto its self but possible. Now I still get a little resistance heating at the bottom when I use the LL cart but I don't think I can get much better, and besides I bought a whole new set from @Roth which works perfectly, so now I have my macguyver daily driver for my e-cig and my un-adulterated weekend driver for LL. I also have a nearly brand new LL core which I'm gonna keep in a container with a silica bag to keep it dry as a back up for if the inevitable happens in a few years and my original LL cart burns out. Also I'm sure that it would work fine for the Oil cart but as I don't have any nice clean oil to put in the cart I got from roth with my second set I can't test that theory (and I aint about to gunk it up with the dirty QWISO I have at the moment)
So there you go it is possible to resurrect a dead Cera depending on the circumstances. I hope this might shine a little bit of light into the darkness all ye owners of Cera must be feeling, I know I am.

This should also work for people who are getting heat and red light from their LL carts but struggle to get much visible vapor I started to notice that happening right before she died the first time. In fact after the results with my MOD I don't think it ever was perfect. But after? Start to glow in 3 seconds and full glow within 10 and way brighter, you should be able to see the glow clearly through the side of the bowl without having to turn the light off (though you might need to cup a hand round it). I know this is very difficult to actually measure but what can be measured is the fact that for the first time ever I can actually get more than one bowl per battery. I got three before I thought the battery had had enough :horse:

Edit. Hope your endeavors work out well @jpdnkstr good luck.

Thread adapters it is, no discouraged feelings here OF :-)
I still have an LL Cart stowed away, I really wanted that Ecig cartridge but I was too late. (My life story)
This should be an interesting ride. Love you FC'ers!

EDIT: 3 bowls was a good run on my batteries.

Yeah I probably won't stretch them that far again it was really struggling by the end of the third bowl. Oh yeah I should probably admit that it was 3 right one after another so the coil was already nice and hot, not sure if it could have done it with a gap between definitely could have done 2 but 3? Not sure. Although the battery used is 2250mha pretty old probably 12 months old but well looked after and still going OK so...

My Cera Ti EO has been out of commission due to a strap issue, days after having 2 EO carts rebuilt by TET, just a week or so before them Closing. I tried to replace her with other devices already in my arsenal, to no avail.... so after much debate I recently purchased a used SS Cera(from another FC'er). I didn't want to invest in a product with no warranty, or customer service, but am I ever glad I did!

CERA EO.......... for me, There is no substitute!

The jump that I created up the outside didn't work?
My theory about getting a second hand one was with all the interchangeable parts and a spare LE cart if I can make it last another 12 months at least it is worth the money.
I'll be honest though I'm sure the En juice cart I have will be the first casualty being used quite a bit every day

Only time will tell how long the coil will last but it has to burn out eventually doesn't it?

Dude I just spent the last hour getting myself all frothed up on this thing without actually visiting the Thermo Vape site. It's made of ceramic, wow that looks amazing. OMG look at the pic of the oven glowing. Interchangeable cartridges? Oooh look at those red O-rings against the polished steel, that's quality man. Made in california... WHAT THE FUCK THEY MAKE IT IN TITANIUM?!

Jesus, OK I'm convinced. What's it going to cost me?

Google "Cera vaporizer" then BAM. Two months too late to the party, closed shop. Fucking sucks man, that thing looks amazing. I'd love to have it next to the Pax.

Is there much of a second hand market?

Bypassing up the outside is something I looked into in the past. The problem is very high current (about 4 Amps) and tiny contact paths, and through SS as well. The four screws are tiny in true cross section, IMO you need all four if you want to stand a chance. My best attempt used four short brass screws to make contact with (plated) copper braid wrapped over the heads secured with a clamp. The other end was wrapped around the end cap and clamped. Ugly but it worked, at least for a while.

A similar attempt using a copper strip up the inside between the battery and wall carefully fit and clamped in the bottom end by the tailcap also showed promise. Both were abandoned when the welded strap solution was developed. It might be worth reopening that?

I would not worry about an EO cart burning out. Since the heater change failed heaters (never as common on EO as LL) basically disappeared. With machine made (as opposed to hand wound) coils the small kinks, spacing and other faults ended and with them failures. EO carts 'die' because of fouling. Heaters got replaced in rebuilds because they were damaged by removal, not because they weren't fit for duty. Don't let the fouling build up and it should last a very long time I think.

I can only say the Cera lives up to the hype. Its as good as you think, maybe better

Sorry to meet you under such sad conditions, but I agree with the Brother above. They are indeed in a class by themselves in many areas. Not a vape for the masses perhaps, but the successful evolution of the T1 and Evolution with most of the chronic issues under control. An unfortunate loss.

However, the small number and strong customer loyalty makes second had ones rare. You should haunt the classifieds, even post a 'wanted'?

Good luck, but mine's not for sale.......

Ahh you miss read my post (edit: I think) I was asking @jpdnkstr if it didn't work for him as I was under the impression he was going to have a go after reading my post about my repair.
As far as for me my repair seems to be holding up just fine for my daily ejuice cart, I know it is not as good as original as if I connect the LL cart I get a bit of heat build up at the contact at the bottom where the switch screws in but since the latest version I pictured on the last page get very little to no heat at the set screw. Not that I use the LL in that unit now I have a second unit that works as intended :-)
it is good news that the coil in the EJ cart should last a while as I'm sure there is not much fouling happening as I make sure never to let it get too dry and clean it regularly.
Out of curiosity when you did a strap up the inside how did you attach it to the top plate? I have some brass foil that would be perfect for the job I just can't think of a way to reliably connect up inside the tube.

I didn't attach it, I clamped it in place by folding a tab over at the bottom and catching that with the tail cap.

But what about the other end? The plate at the top work the set screws that the carts screw into?

I'm still not sure I follow, when you said tail cap I thought you meant the switch end.
so clamp the new strap at both ends in the thread? Won't that gall the thread's?

Yes, the tail cap contains the switch......that end. No, the tab did not extend far enough to reach the threads. No, brass would not gall the SS, but it would jam them up if it got a chance.
