Discontinued The Venus Apollo

@villekille2 - I've found any vape that has convection air flows to be fuzzy on the readings. Turns out dealing with turbulent air flows is a mystery, so I don't feel bad about not nailing it! After measuring over a dozen devices so far, I have come to trust the curves. The specific reading might be off, but it will be off consistently during a single session and provide a meaningful curve or profile.

Comparing Herbsense versus none, I'm not sure what it does. First, I'm not even sure I turned it off since there's no way to confirm but to repeat the process. So it's possible I had it on for both readings. But I did everything else the same and the only difference I saw was a jump in about 50F across the board. But this could also have been due to nothing more than a slightly different probe location.

@Zementos - I love my Apollo. If you don't mind tinkering with things to dial in the results you want, this is a winner. It gives the user more control over things that matter than anything else I have. The controls are cumbersome, like having to swipe down and wait each time when going from temp 10 down to temp 5, but this is a minor complaint for me. The ability to noticeably adjust the session to my liking is unmatched and something I really enjoy.

For the mass market, I can think of at least 5 things that really hold it back. But for the enthusiast, I currently have nothing more unique. I honestly have more vapes than I can count, and this is one of my 10 faves.

@villekille2 I see on your site two differents apollo2
1 is marked 50wspecial edition @249 €
What is the difference with apollo2 @219 €

Your unit is close to the current A2 50W version. The regular version at 219 is otherwise similar but with the standard heating element that is used across our range, in Helios, Venus and Apollo and it has a 20W bulb.

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
Had a nice experience with microdosing

I use chewy2 electric grinder. It was almost empty. I was lazy as fuck. I loaded what left. It was not enough to cover half or maybe half the screen

A basket mesh screen on top, 40secs preheat. Whispy but tasty and satisfying 1 hit.

Most of IR radiation was lost passing by the empty spaces (light show in mouthpiece) left by very little load, so no charring happened despite long preheat

I finally think apollo could be also good for microdosing

Edit: ligth weight chamber

Appreciate your input guys! Makes waiting a lot harder though. Went for the 50w version. Unfortunately my Apollo isnt on its way yet. Was hoping for it to arrive before my short trip at the end of next week. Should have known better ...that never ever works out.:freak:

@stickstones
It was either the Apollo or the Mighty first. I love the performance of the Mighty. Imo the Apollo is far more interesting though with all the options to play with. So Mighty has to wait till 420 sales. My wife would kill me otherwise. :goon:

@Andreaerdna
Nice! Keeps getting better.

I found a backpack of some kind of phone case where Apollo fit perfectly!
When put Apollo on case sticker side touch button is so that it can not be accidentally pressed start.

Protects the device and keeps the scent away when the unit is carried.
In addition, it is unobtrusive in the case and gives a sophisticated image to outsiders.

What a discovery :D

Does anyone know what socket model is used on light bulb?

@A to the K

Here is a post from @villekille2 where he states which sockets fit. It is for the Apollo v1 as far as I know, so I am not sure if this is valid for the Apollo v2 as well.

it accepts G4, G5.3 and G6.35. Just need to make sure that the big 6.35 bulbs are not the longer variant, there are G6.35 bulbs which are longer and also bulbs with similar length as G5.3 bulbs.

for example this looks like it could fit
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/GREA..._1&btsid=ec088af3-e94e-4c97-bcc8-1b73ab434660

Apollo is using bulbs a little bit overdriven, 35W bulbs would probably be near 40W during warm up.

My Apollo finally arrived. Took longer then expected, but thats ok. @villekille2 told me there have been an unusual amount of orders in february so first come first serve of course.

Have only had 2 small bowls so these are just my first impressions:

The unit looks gorgeous. Finish is a bit rough and especially the part cut out for the herb chamber is too rough for my liking. Other than that most beautiful vape imo. Got lucky with the peace of wood I got. Will take some pictures sometime.
Out of the box it smells kinda cheesy. That´s the cut oak I guess. I think the smell is already fading. If it won´t go away I can still put some beewax on or something so no big deal.
So far I think this vape is what I was looking for. After the first hit I thought I combusted because of the size of the cloud. Didn´t notice anything in my throat though so cooling unit does work well. After that only whispy hits (40s pre heat, heat lvl 6). Was only .1 though so exactly what I wanted.
A bit early to say, but could become my favorite vape.

Few questions:
Does anyone know what kind of screws are in the metal caps? There is a small gap between the wood and the metal part of my Apollo. Probably because of one screw sticking out a bit.

Should the screen in the performance chamber be domed upwards? Mine is.

Sometimes the lights/buttons blink when i fiddle arround with the chamber and glass tube while in sleep. Normal? Like all three buttons light up for a quarter of a second.

When heatup is done the middle light goes off, but the the bottom blinks a few times and vibrates. Manual says just second light goes off when ready.
(edit: guess blinking after heat up indicates the heat lvl I'm on. :sherlock:)

@villekille2 - My Apollo came with the ordered cu/performance chamber/glass tube. Unfortunately the original included chamber and glass tube were missing.

I´ll keep you updated. So far I´m really impressed.

"Should the screen in the performance chamber be domed upwards? Mine is."

Mine came dome out but got pushed in moving the cooling unit up and down. You should be able to just pop it out and re shape it of you wish. But mine still seems perfectly fine so I have not even bothered.

"Sometimes the lights/buttons blink when i fiddle around with the chamber and glass tube while in sleep. Normal? Like all three buttons light up for a quarter of a second."

I have noticed that occasionally too since I got it, still going strong without any issues, so I'm assuming it's normal.

"When heatup is done the middle light goes off, but the the bottom blinks a few times and vibrates. Manual says just second light goes off when ready."

And blinks and vibrates as many times as the temp level you have it set? Mine dose that too so I assume it's completely normal.

And I'm not sure about the exact bit size, but I got a "phone repair kit" on eBay for like $6 on ebay for something unrelated a while ago, It included the right bit size as well as a bunch of others and a little screwdriver. I could send you a link if you would like.

Hope you love your new vape!

Hi! Yes it is normal that the unit, while is off, does react just a little bit to the touch. Little bit technical side:

in order for the Apollo to realize when the buttons are pressed, it needs to scan them. But this also consumes energy which we don't want to do when the unit is turned off. So the processor is sleeping most of the time but wakes up once a second to check the buttons.

In case some touch is detected, it wakes up and checks if the conditions are correct: just the boost button held down, and nothing else. If these conditions are not correct, it will go back to sleep. And this falling asleep again, when the processor shuts down all outputs, causes the quick faint glow of red LEDs.

In case the correct conditions are met, and the boost is held down, Apollo will be fully awake and wait for the upwards swipe and then start the heating. And once the heating is done, the bottom LED flashes as many times as the set power level, so this is also completely normal and it is there to signal the power level without a need to change it in order to check the level.

@Zementos, I'll organize the shipping of the missing parts. I think I communicated badly with the person preparing the packages, as I explained the Apollo 2 50W package and what should be inside, my fault.

@villekille2 - Interesting. I'm not in a hurry. Take care of business first.

Apollo porn incoming:

You can see the small gap at the bottom.

Almost pointless small amount..just for the sake of science:

Works.

Packed a few bowls. Still messing around. Abv is sometimes kinda uneven. Maybe I'll try to flatten the screen in the bowl. This thing hits hard for sure so there is only so much experimenting I can take per day. :science:

My Apollo started buzzing yesterday. Anyone else experiencing that? Could be that I just hadn't noticed it before. Gets louder when boosting.

@Sonicboom1991 - Thx. I'm in europe, but already found some cheap repair kit. Was good to know what I had to look for though.

@Andreaerdna - I think you used beewax right? Anything special or just ordinary beewax for wood/furniture?
And can you tell me what kind of bulbs you bought?

My first Apollo vibrated without touch. It consumed the battery empty. I suspect it because of the contact disruption of the batteries on the bottom cap. Also sounded that the batteries swing inside device.

A first-aid remove the bottom cap and extension the battery holder.
If it does not help put Apollo into service.

You Villekille2 should pay less salary for the packer :D
I having also problems when I did not get everything what I was ordered at same parcel!

Yes, I beleave it's just the PWM working.

"Packed a few bowls. Still messing around. Abv is sometimes kinda uneven."

I have noticed under certain circumstances I end up with abv that looks undercooked, even when I could no longer get any vapor from the apollo. However when I put it in any of my other vapes with the temp cranked up , I don't really get anything from them either. I just keep going till I get no more vapor or I tap out.

It's been a while since I've gotten the chance to post. I've definitely been enjoying my apollo for quite a while though, now. However, I'm looking to pick up another set of batteries, and I'm having trouble finding some. So, obviously the batteries I got with the apollo are button tops, but they're right about 66mm long. Every 18650 button top I can find online says that they're more like 68-69 mm. Since the batteries fit fairly snugly in the apollo already, I'm not sure if it will be able to fit the extra couple of mm's. @villekille2 do these slightly longer button tops work with the apollo? Mine is from the very initial line of production, if that makes a difference.

Also, my dumb ass managed to order some flat tops from amazon thinking I had gotten button tops. I can't use these at all for the apollo, correct? I figure I'm just going to have to return them, but wanted to check anyway.

it looks like you have had the cooling unit / herb chamber cap too deep and it has pressed the herb down. This can cause dark spots.

The bulb can be slightly tilted if it has moved while installed there, or during transport/shock, but unless it is VERY tilted it should not make much difference.

Base plate is not connected to the heating element or the bulb. The bulb is such a long construction that even a fraction of a degree tilt at the base can make it noticeable to the eye when looked at the top. It can be straightened if you just remove the mesh on top and push the bulb straight, but as I said, i think your result is not connected to this, unless it is because the bulb is not deep enough and is tilted because of this. Then it might be too close to the herbs but as I said, the fact that your herb is stuck on the cap mesh, tells me there has just been too much force pressing it down and the result is then expected.

@Zementos I don't think so as the bulb is not attached to the plate at the bottom. By the sticking of the flower to the top of the cooling unit, it looks it might be packing down the material to much. I have noticed similar results if the cooling unit is a little too low down in the chamber and ends up packing the herb down. I find the best results are when the cap of the cooling unit is just at the top/slightly above the material in the chamber but not packing it down. I also don't relay on the color of the material so much with the apollo. I don't know if its the IR heating or whatnot as I don't have another halogen vape to compare it to. But normally running on lower temps I have gotten similar color abv to that, only to throw it into one of my other vapes too get nothing.
