The Toad from Morwood

Happy to say that my personal Toad has finally arrived: #184.

Works phenomenally with all the stems. Truly a work of art and a testament to how far craftsmanship can go when pushed to the absolute limit.

If you're on the fence about getting one: do it. It's well worth the wait. I was on the list since late 2021 (October or November is when I initially got in contact with Dan) and was able to buy mine in June earlier this year.

Shout out to @Tswoodenart for the incredibly slick custom stems, too. They match the colors in the device damn near perfectly and function exceptionally.

On another note; if anyone wants to sell any of their Dan Morrison devices my inbox is always open and I'm cash ready. Nomads (Both iterations) and heavily painted/detailed art Toads are top priority.

Are these @Tswoodenart stems custom for the Toad or the same size as the ones that come with the poker pipes he makes?

The glass tubing is the same diameter as far as I can tell. I just tried the extra tubes he sent me for my poker and they all fit into the Toad airtight (some a tiny but looser or tighter but I'm guessing that's just manufacturing variation that's fractions of a mm). I think 14mm outer diameter tubing is a standard production size for boro glassblowing.

It's basically a poker stem with some pieces changed up. He made the mouthpieces to better fit a smaller device and just shrunk all the proportions down a bit. The metal piece on the bottom with the two o-rings also holds the screen to give it a cleaner look than the domed screen on its own.

Man oh man, I have some playing around to do when I get home tomorrow. Need to check the fit with my poker stem and other 14mm glass. I didn’t buy any extra stems from Dan for just this reason, wanted to check the fit of what I have first. Thank you for the info.

So had a chance to put the toad through its paces last night. Got the hang of the Hugh Heater pretty quickly following Dans quick start guide and timing.

The low heater on the other hand I had less success with. Is there a trick to getting that going?

Funny you say that usually people have a hard time with the high heater, being a bit aggressive. But if you managed with it, the low heater shouldn’t be a problem. Dan’s advice worked ok for me, and then practice :) Something around 6 seconds preheat / 6 sec inhale with heat / 6 sec inhale without heat. This timing can vary depending on how much heat is retained in the heater between each inhale, you just have to find the balance :sherlock: Keep going and enjoy

Are you hitting it outside in the cold? I find I am able to use my low heater technique on cold days with the high heater.

If you are inside in normal room temperatures, this is probably not a factor 😄

I got my Toad today and gotta share it. It's such a perfectly crafted object, it feels almost weird to call it a vaporizer xD

The only thing that bugs me is that I'm not sure if I got a high or low heater module. It vapes great, but the vapor is on the lighter side and heat up takes 6 to 7 seconds instead of three. I've attached some photos, could anyone check them and see if they recognize the heater?

Have a nice one everyone ✌️

You should have a red point on a edge if it's th high heater.

Thanks a lot! Then I'll figure everything out first and give it a good clean if nothing helps.

I don't get how to share images, I thought imgur posts would be supported. Sorry for that.

for kief, I already talked about it in the thread.
not many of us have tried it, or at least, it didn't generate a fascinating discussion, from memory...
i made sandwiches myself for a while.. no problem, except that I found it less practical than "just flowers".
The ideal is to keep the screen integrated into the vaporizer clean (even if it's not very complicated to clean or change it...), so you just want to avoid kief or hash coming into contact with this screen.

enjoy 😁

i thought that the high heating was harder to control but it's just that it's less permissive and you shouldn't exceed the preheating time...
but after that, it's a little easier to get vapor.

with the low heating, you have more margin. there's less risk of burning.
but the downside is that you have to preheat long enough... (I count up to about 7 in my case).
or else...

you have to reduce your inhalation speed. this is the most technical aspect but the most important...
the slower you inhale, the more time the air has to be heated and therefore heat the flowers. therefore more vapor.

this is even more true if you have old or discharged batteries.

on the other hand, if you add air resistance in your stem, it can help to obtain vapor more easily. it could be adding more cooling beads, a mouthpiece, slightly more tightly packed flowers or even custom stems...

(to summarize, the important points:
- preheating time
- speed of inspiration
- state of charge and age of your batteries)

I hope I haven't added more questions than anything else....

if you want more details, don't hesitate!!

Hi folks. I don't usually post here but I finally got a Toad! And ofc I can't make it work properly...or at all :D I had my batteries for a while so I'm gonna guess that Im just gonna need a new batch with a better charger ;) anyone can point me in the direction of a reputable online seller for both in the USA? Thanks in advance, staring at this thing without using it painful :D

Thanks! I did read your post and noticed the same lack of discussion. I was hoping more had tried it since, but it isn't practical given how I load my Toad.

Likely just keep the kief for another vape.
