So I cut the cord.
I think I may have finally hit my buzzing controller box with the hammer too many times.
Today I broke the timer override button with a stray whack so it had to go.
Soldered and sealed--a bomber splice where the box used to be, less a foot or two.
I should have done this a long time ago, works great
!
They got the polarity backwards so the box has to be upside down, but otherwise I'm very happy with this little setup. No timer to worry about unless I want to put one inline, which I could easily do.
But I can't see why I would, I hated the auto-off! I can turn it off myself.
The indicator light is all I need, and it's easier to see because the box is upside down.
My homemade gfci-protected dimmer box has also been assembled and wired,
but either I have a bad switch or I wired it wrong so still working on it.
It's a monster compared to this little guy!
