Personally, I wouldn't go for version 1. The unit you get may be fine, but a few of us with version 1 have had issues and I am not sure if they ever improved on it outside of creating a new version. I would save up for 2.0 if you can.

The discounted version 1 is already on the expensive side for me, so the 2.0 version is definitely out of reach. Seems better going for a safer choice then, Cloud Evo seems to be a bit more in the affordable-range, wish there was a 220V version already.

Well I have been thoroughly enjoying the Sub since last night, been in a bit of a haze all day to be honest. I never came to fully appreciate the genius of this unit until now. The heated atomizer, venturi effect vortex and unbelievable thermal mass make for an incredible punch in the face. This one is going on knockout duty.

On another note, is it just me, or is the upgrade path a little bit confusing? I don't really understand why it costs so much more for the no downtime option?

Hi Tweek,
The no downtime version of the upgrade costs more initially because Sublimator sends you a new XLR 2.0 before receiving your v1.0 unit back so you have no downtime. Once you receive your new XLR 2.0 then you send back your v1.0 and get refunded the difference so you end up paying the same in the end as the regular upgrade but without being Subless.

Unfortunately, The heat shield is only for the XLR2.0 model. Please do not try and take your version one apart as this will void your warranty. Yes, we will know if it has been tampered with so again, version one users please don't take it apart.

Yes that would be nice to know,
if the heat shield would physically fit on version 1,
regardless of warranty implications.
But I'm guessing that we won't know the answer to that question unless somebody here tries it.

It appears to me that the head on the v2.0 is removable, allowing the user to install/remove the heat shield, where the head on the v1.0 is fixed, if you try to unscrew it you can damage the internals (from what I gathered from past comments) and that voids the warranty, or possibly just ruins the heat core.

jambandphan03 is correct, unscrewing a v1.0 will break the heat core inside! Warranty or no warranty if you unscrew the Apollo head it will no longer function.

Got my ti-apollo xlr2.0 yesterday....

I have my unit on its own electrical circuit. The dishwasher and clothes dryer were both on. I was only pulling 28 to 29 watts max. Now both are off, my dial is at the same position, and I am pulling 34 watts.

Why does the wattage vary so much?
Too many cheap china parts in the controller or poor design?

So I guess for my modular plan I will postpone box assembly for now and just concentrate on polarized plug connectors. I will probably make gfi box receptacles for female, one for my box and maybe one for the original sub controller box (but I would still have to hit it with my ball-pin hammer every time I turn it on because it buzzes quite loudly, which is the impetus for this project).

My plan here is to splice the Apollo's wire with a longer lead that has a plug at the end of it.
The important thing here will be to make an excellent soldered connection that is double-adhesive heat-shrink protected like the stuff on the Apollo itself.

So instead of finishing my box for now,
I will start with the "easy" button that was suggested earlier:

Large amperage draws from those appliances brown out your household power grid, if you have an incandescent light bulb on or anything running without a regulated power supply they will all go down a bit, easy to see the bulb dim.
