Discontinued The Splinter by RBT

Not an expert by any means but I’ve had a few splinters and they all responded pretty consistently with this method- 40w preheat for 5 secs and then I drop the power to 26-27 watts and I get a nice delicious cloud with the first draw. I don’t think I’m doing anything special, are the results the same with both your mods? You mentioned you vape ejuice and this is your first flower vape, here’s a new perspective , a nice hit from my Juul is way more visual than most hits from a flower vape
Yes, this is with both mods. Fiddled around with Arcticfox a little on the Aster and looks like I can only preheat for 2 seconds max. But I set my settings to what you recommended, and even bumped the watts to 35 at the last attempt. Herb is now tan and the stem is warm to the touch. Still seeing pretty much zero vapor. If there is vapor, it's so faint, I can't be sure if it's actually there because it's so thin. In no way shape or form could it be considered a cloud. But now that I think about it, I did use a vape a 5-10 years ago. It was one of those big generic "wooden" boxes with a big analog dial, and a 3 foot or so long whip stem. The vapor that I remember getting from that would be acceptable, but I'm not.

If you want to use the same wattage settings and get clouds, edit the tcr settings...to make it hotter you want to raise them.

It sounds like everything is working if the stem is getting warm...seems like you just need to crank it up, you can also leave the tcr settings alone and just raise up the wattage...I have used my splinter on 50w and higher, I am a high temp user that likes to get fucked up, there is nothing passive with my usage.

Ride the heat waves and play with the settings and for best drawing...start slow and then speed up your draw as the heater warms up

When it hits you...you'll know!
It was a metaphor. Besides, it would be with the soft petals side of course. :luv:
I know you're not the violent type, but it's still hilarious to think about someone getting beat with a rose bush to the curb your enthusiasm music

This is my first attempt with an herbal vape. I vape ejuice daily, and I'm certainly not expecting that kind of vapor

Guys don't look any further, the answer lies in that sentence.

Herbal vapor withouth e-juice is barely visible and needs proper lighting to be revealed. I think it's just the typical new user saying "it's not working" because they saw nothing like smoke (or worse e-liquid clouds which are completely opaque)

Yes of course it's visible, that was not my point. It's just so light compared to e-juice or smoke, that nearly 100% of my combusting friends said "it's not working" the first time I handled them any vape I got, even strong hitters like RBT vapes.

I always have to say: "Did you feel the taste? Yes? Then it's working, wait 5 minutes and you'll see." (and most of the time I could see vapor escaping from their mouth but they didn't see it)

'Not working' is not only a matter of visible vapor but what's about effects?

That differs greatly from my experience - i use my splinter between 42 and 45 Watt and often have the feeling i could use a bit more "omph"....

I think i will have to do some testing this evening. Loved the splinter in the Honeymoon phase but now i have the impression the performance is worse as in the beginning. Anyone else with such an experience?
I ll report back after my scientific research :science:

Perhaps my posts were just horribly worded?

I understand that vapor from this is going to be very light, and much harder to see. I wasn't expecting at all to see a massive cloud. But I was expecting to see something, and I'm not.

I'm getting as much taste out of it as I would if I sucked on an unlit packed pipe. I know not to expect the same, or as much, flavor like I'd get from combusting dry herb. As I stated already, I'm not feeling more than just a minor buzz. I've been trying to use the Splinter about an hour before I go to bed, so the "buzz" I feel could even just be me being tired from a long day of work. That's truly how little of an effect I'm getting. This is the first time in 4 months I've had any plant material to pack anything with, so it's not the case of a high tolerance negatively impacting my ability to feel the effects. If anything it should be the perfect time to test if I feel anything. As stated, I'm a lightweight. Two small drags off of combusted dry herb and I'm feeling really good for 3-4 hours.

For the amount of money I spent on this (not meant as a complaint about the price,) I really want this thing to work. It doesn't have to get me toasted, but I expect to feel something more by the time I need to clear out the screen.

Precisely.
I disagree. No ejuice or special lighting or dark background here.
What's wrong with special lighting and dark backgrounds?!?! Lol :goon:

I experience this alot too...except they way I keep mine cranked up causes people to say it doesn't work until their lungs burst in a vapor explosion...gets em every time, but NO ONE denies effect!

I just did a session at 40 watts bc you got me curious and I got quite a bit of scorching:hmm:. By the 3rd hit almost half my material is toasted on top.

@Cleanincubus i know exactly what you mean bc I experienced the same thing with the stempod after I changed the coils. Sadly I learned nothing from that experience but I hope you find a solution.

40w works great for me with Arctic Fox on my eLeaf Invoke. I still haven't learned how best to use the top hat screens with my D020-d without scorching from the longer hit. Even lower wattage seems to scorch before getting milky or dense vapor. Fun without glass though and no shortage of vapor in the 36 to 40W range!

On my old cuboid I had to use the splinter @60w for vapor and I'm going to test it today on my new mods just to be sure, though if IRC, I used it on 50(ish)w

Infact, I remember reaching out to Ryan to ask him would the increased wattage damage the unit and I was assured it wouldn't as long as it wasn't for prolonged periods of time (like cruise mode)

@Cleanincubus I would suggest starting out at 60w and working your way DOWN the wattage ladder as you see fit.

The reason the splinter works with a mod is to have the ability to personalize it to your style of vaping....alot of people praise low temp vaping...but it never did shit substantial for me...I like to get smashed!

Just got mine..fantastic but I am beyond lost on how to set up my evic.

I don't know If I can run it in temp control mode(I like running from 350F to 410F).

I do not mind wattage mode, but I prefer temperature. I am using the tubo firmware fwiw. I have M1-3 set to 175.

Just got a new 2 hole Bubinga the other day, using it with my Vaporesso Tarot Nano. This one likes the 45 watt range. My OG Walnut sits on my LostVape Therion DNA 166. She works comfortably right around 50 watts. Never have even tried to fool with any temp or cruise settings. I’m completely with @KeroZen . Sometimes I’ll come back to a stem that I left a couple of nights before and end up getting 4 or 5 more decent rips out of it. The results are so tasty and consistent that I just don’t need to fool with it. If I need a sesh I’ve got a Crafty and Mighty for that

Mostly using splinter dry
EDIT sorry no pics..it’s just a long mouthpiece and a sideways short adapter which I’m using atm)

Ive been using water adapter with one of these..

https://www.dhgate.com/product/18-8mm-glass-female-male-mouthpiece-curved/410259564.html

The small hole helps me draw slowly

And This

https://www.dhgate.com/product/glass-reclaim-adapter-male-female-14mm-18mm/397833022.html

When I’m using it the round bottom of the chamber on righthand side is facing me
So it acts like a inspection widow for the vapor (helps me adjust my draw strategy lol)
I think the side turn also helps cooling

You can get different combination of male and female joints for both pieces
Total length about 8”/20cm They’re quite cheap

I’m using 22w with Smoant charon mini ( has 10s heat up limit)

10s heat up before every draw

Very slow inhale - I try to keep going till I see vapor ..usually 8-9 sec..sometimes have keep button down till after 10

first might be taste only - But then I get a thick cloud with intense taste on the exhale
So ..long and slow draw works for me at low watts

I’m getting some very satisfying puffs

(..Hope the pics made it)

Thank you! I didn't want to risk voiding my warranty by going over 50 watts, so I went straight to 50. It worked! Vapor, flavor, the effect is hitting me as I type this. Unfortunately it combusted a little (maybe 10% of it), but it's a good place to work down, as you suggested. Seriously, thank you so much! I was ready to give up or send it back to get checked.

Edit: I thought I posted this reply last night, but it looks like I erased it when I tried to edit it. Turned the watts down to 49, and it was better with much less combustion. Going to keep moving down slowly until it's just right.

Got a new splinter and a Z a couple days ago... and tried some different settings...

The cuboid I have belongs in the trash.

When I connected the splinter to my Joyetech Espion, I cranked it up to 45 and went to draw...holy fuck.

After the first drag my throat cramped up from the thickest, harshest, hottest cloud I've ever had...I removed the stem and blew out the charred bits and tried to lower the wattage...this time I dry fired it and noticed that the coils were glowing after 2 seconds of being fired and it did this down to 5w's

Weird, the Espion was used with my tubox for a while and had no issue...luckily I had an RX300 gen3 around... the splinter works great at 37w for me, seems the higher wattage was only needed for a mod that needed compensation for a mechanical deficit.

Glad you got it working! I'm sure you can get it dialed down from here, and 10% combustion is way too high for me :puke:

I've been playing with mine for more than a week and just can't get any sort of cloud at all (as seen in the videos posted here). I'm using all the recommended settings, downloaded the specific DNA250c Splinter settings, etc. Unfortunately nothing seems to work for me, no matter the wattage, temperature, or material selected. I wonder if there is an issue with my heater. Even at 50w with preheat I can't make any sort of visible vapor. After reading through tens of pages in this thread I see recommendations from 20w to 60w. Unfortunately the Splinter seems extremely variable on a unit-to-unit basis. I keep hoping that after a couple more tries I'll nail it and get what all the hype is about (I can see that since I last posted, another user was able to dial in their settings) but unfortunately at this point I am very disappointed with the performance and am feeling very disheartened. :\

@softkore i really struggled with mine till i tried a light but full packed bowl (dont tamp too much, this thing needs air flow over the load if you want it to work), using about 45w in wattage mode with a few seconds preheating and a slower inhale.

I hope you get it performing for you!

Do you have 2 hole or 4 hole version?
