I may have a penchant for hyperbole...
Good advise but I don't think that was an issue with the SS coils especially since @tharealmclovin cut his. Just sounds like it needs to be made a little smallerI like a mm or so to stick up above the rod. Also try switching it a bit to increase the circumference. This will prevent the coil from sliding up on hard pulls.
That's about right. My sr71 rod reads 1.5 on the iris. I've experienced what you are going through right now. Actually pretty recently when I cleaned it out. I can't give a definite cause and a definite solution because i do not know what or how it was fixed on mine I kind of just worked through it.It is 1.6 on the Iris
I will trim it down a bit more so that the rod pokes a little bit
I'm very interested in picking up a Persei and a Hercules but i've seen a lot of posts similar to this saying rod placement can cause issues.First thing to do is take out the bottom adapter and Hook the Herc up to the Persei without it and see if it works, If not then take the coil out and see if it the rod glows with in 20 seconds. If not the issue could be two things a faulty rod, or bad placement.

Is there way to eliminate the adjustment maybe adding a collet or small ring around the rod so it always goes back to the correct hight?
I've had smiliar questions about the coil lots of people saying they had to modify them to fit better would it be possible to use a snap ring or similar spring steel ring to hold the coils in place?
oh well that eliminates the last of my real concerns with that im a bit ocd and would have constantly worried about if i had the correct placementThe SR74 has an adjustable center spring which makes proper rod placement automatic.
thank you very much this sets my mind at ease now i just have to save the funds and place an order might wait for the iris v2 and sr74x tho@lonelyhero
If a bump is added to the rod this means it can be removed from one side only, this will cause an issue if there is gunk buildup on the rod as you won't be able to remove it at all.
As for the coils modifying them is not everyone, only a few people modify it so that it does not slide up. This is done by pressing the coil between two quarters.

That's about normal, especially if you have gunk build up. I think a clean rod is about 5-10 secs to glow and you don't need the glow to get vapor (black rod)checked in a dark room and it starts to get red around 15 seconds
This is a brand new herc being used for the first time. I have now cut the coil to exact height of the rod. it is exactly as you say, i never get a hit until its way too hot, then i need 5 too cool it off
WTF is JP Tech?
