For all of you who are using the SR74 and have wondered about the 3.7v black rod but avoided it due to inconsistent reports here:

Get it.

Also, get yourself a hammer top. The 3.7v sr74 does take 20-30 seconds to heat up enough to give you good clouds, the hammer top means you only need to press the button once to start heating, and once to stop heating just before you take your cooldown hits. No holding buttons for ages whilst counting in your head lol

This will be even easier to achieve by taking advantage of the sr74x when it comes out, which I believe will make the rod placement easier when you change your herc to 3.7v ;)
the hammer top is a must with the 3.7v rod!!!! better flavor and better efficiency with the meds. i get the same dense clouds as the 7.4v just takes a few seconds longer-

also, alot less leaks to the lower chamber!!

With the correct 510-610 adapter, is the Persei capable of firing Divine Tribe's latest 0.7-0.8ohm ceramic doughnut atomizer, or will the internal circuitry prevent proper operation?

Thanks!

I am not sure but I have a question, why not use the Hercules? From our understanding that style carts are not the best for a few reasons. 1 being that it has wires directly in contact with the oil, 2. maybe glue, 3. no wick system and 4. Nothing is user serviceable.

I maybe wrong but that's one of the issues we had when we designed the Universe cartridge 2 years ago.

That looks amazing G! In the photo of your prototype, I don't see any wires that would come into contact with oil. Could you lay Ti wool (coil from the Herc) on top of that circular ceramic heating element, and drip oil into that Ti wool? Can that universal cart be fully disassembled, isobathed, and put back together? Sorry I wasn't paying closer attention two years ago when you were working on that universal cart....

The cart can't be taken apart. The wires are underneath the ceramic disc.

The design looks cool but it's just not practical.

@thevaf built a few of this type of cartridges he later stopped using them in favor of the Hercules. Maybe he can chime in.

same. i definitely want to use a 3.7v setup and feel like you NEED an on / off top. not sure if i should buy a hammer top or wait for one of the new ones

PV often has Hammer tops for $60 including a rod. I got a couple because that was the only way I could figure how to replace a standard top that was dead and out of warranty. Better than the $160 for a whole new starter kit.

I agree, unless you are actively trying to develop the muscles of your index finger, the latch on the Hammer is pretty necessary for the blackrod. I picked up a 2nd Herc in the Classifieds, and now have a dedicated 3.7 and 7.4 SR-71. The idea of having to change the rod on a single Herc every time I wanted to switch voltages was very unappealing.

I too thought it was a wicked idea

The proof is in the pudding - I'm chain-vaping the Hercules right now.
By the way, the quality of machining on the Okeanos is amazing, like $10k+ Swiss watch amazing.

dont get me wrong it needs further development but the current state we cant put the Universe out and call it safe.

wow my persei just disintigrated in my hand it seems. I heard a pop in the head unit and then it became scorching hot. I had to unscrew the batteries to stop it from melting in my hand.

also my hercules 7.4 still doesnt get hot for crap. not to impressed with my first experience so far.

Primeform it Sounds like your persei short circuit. Did u find the cause? Collapsed bottom spring?

If you had to unscrew the unit to disengage the batteries the spring must have already been compressed for whatever reason. Typically this is because you're using a spring that's already collapsed under a short, or you have the adjustment set improperly.

Can you post a pic of the spring?

What battery setup/type were you using?

Stock Persei tube or with the SS kit?

Also, when this happened you were using the Hercules?

Finally, what version top do you have?

2x 18350 with 7.4 kiss cart. Don't have it with me but I'll check the spring later. Of course I'm on vacation with no alternative so I'm going to have to buy a shitty ego vape to make it through the trip..

It sounds like the universe cart used a coil that was placed under the ceramic, so the coil would heat up and then transfer the heat to the ceramic. The ones I were using are like @215z. They had the wire embedded inside the ceramic (like a sandwich).

The hercules rods are essentially the same thing in a different form factor (a rod) but use a much stronger and safer ceramic.

The reason I stopped using the ceramic discs was because they had a major issue that caused them to explode if dry-fired for too long sending fragments of ceramic all over the place. I saw some reports about it and decided to test them myself, and I was able to make one 'pop'. This right here is extremely dangerous - since no one wants pieces of ceramic lodged into their vital organs. On top of all this, it was still a LayG cart, because you would still have to use about the same amount of material you would in the regular KISS, but with the added benefit of it always being in contact with the heating element (in the KISS the oil melts off into the bottom of the cup and you have to scrape it back onto the coil).

I want to use CO2 oil exclusively in a hercules 74 with 3.7 rod on hammer top with the ss kit. Don't want to buy a 7.4 persei kit. If I buy all those components along with batteries and charger, will it work? Anyone try this?

Yes you'll be good to go. You want an AW brand 18350 battery (probably a couple) I'm not familiar with CO2 but if it's runny or liquidy I would go with a different option then the herc

are they AW brand 18350 batteries or just the stock ones it came with (that could be why it's only getting. Warm and not hot)

I don't think there's any wire inside the Hercules rod. I cracked mine in half and there was no evidence of a wire inside of the ceramic....

Generally, this kind of ceramic cartridge rod (if I am right and it is what I think it is) will have wires only in going into the bottom part of the rod, they do not necessarily run up the entire body of the ceramic heater.

I am only going off my experience with ceramic cartridges in flower vapes though, so this may not be 100%, there could well be other kinds of ceramic heaters!

Oh wait, we are talking about the herc rod. Nope, the electrical contacts appear to be the metal bands on the rod. Whether very small internal wires still exist to connect these parts to relevant internals or not is another question altogether - regardless, wires inside the ceramic are not an issue if the ceramic is appropriately sourced/produced.

ceramic will not heat on its own nor will it conduct electricity. There needs to be a source, hence why there is 2 tungsten contact bands on the bottom of the rod.

CO2 oil starts flowing slowly around 75+ F (from memory). This too thin? What is bad about liquids and the Hercules? Using a 3.7 kiss titanium now on an innokin taste v3 with thread adapter. I usually lay a small bead of oil along the coil and rest the pen on its side so the oil flows towards the center rod. What is the rod made from? Silica? Porous ceramic? The sump in the Kiss Ti is not great for CO2 oil but it does get the job done with a little care.

Completely understand that. If you read the quote I posted it was saying that most ceramic heaters have a wire or coil embedded inside the ceramic and they said like the herc. I was just saying I don't think the herc is like that because of the bands on the outside. But thanks for clearing it up if my point wasn't clear

The rod in the Hercules is ceramic. Not sure if it's porous or not. But the oil is absorbed in the Ti coils (kinda like a steel sponge you use for cleaning)

It also needs about 0.4-0.6 grams to function properly with one coil. If you read trough the thread, even with shatter the herc will leak if you don't cool it down properly and store it on it's side. So if your co2 oil gets liquidy at 75 degrees you'll most likely encounter many leaks. I tried pure gold in my herc once not the best idea

Sorry I meant what is the rod in the kiss made out of? Leaks are deal breaker. Thanks.

Its made from ceramic. You can google FC-2000 ceramic to find similar replacements.
If your oil is liquid at room temps, then you might want to try the W9 protank
