Hello all.! I am new to this site but not to omicron & up-tech etc.
I have a quick question I was hopping someone could help me with...

I just picked up a new SR-74 from the up-tech warehouse. So far I am getting through the learning curve good & getting some good hits with it on my Persei...but
I think I might be having power problems with my 2 18350 batteries.
*How manny hits should u expect from a fully charged unit using these batteries?

Right now I'm able to get 4 or 5 good clouds before it starts to die on me. Is this normal or do I need new batteries?
Thanks :)

Are you using aw imr batteries?

Good man, you will not be sorry.
A word of warning.:myday:.....master the Hercules first.....before you add the Nibbler XL. The reason is that you need to decide your coil length and technique first. Otherwise it's one more thing to clean as you master it. If you are like me though you'll be like Fuck that and go big.

In which case, have some lubricant....Vaseline.....for the o rings so they don't shred on the glass or get stuck. Trust me here....lightly lube em before inserting into glass.:myday:

That's not really what he asked.....he asked 'are you using AW IMRs...... Brand is important here. Do they have a oval "AW" sticker on them? If not, that's most likely the issue. All IMR 18650s are not the same.

There is no "aw" on my batteries.
Im going back to pick up a couple tomorrow.
How long do the "aw" batteries last with the herc.?

With the sr 74 7.4v setup it should give you theoretically around 30 mins of continuos use.

The good thing about the Herc once the initial power up phase is done the current requirement drops by 40-50%

What did u mean by "power up phase"? & is it worth even trying to use these "stock" batteries with the Hercules?

Do you guys still offer the trade in another vape for a discount? I want to give the persei another chance. To be honest I really only used it with the bender in the past, since I never had access to oil. I really like the SR74 on paper, and I'm sure I'd love to try it out.

I regret selling mine a while ago, but I can't afford the full price right now. I have no interest in using the carts that come with the persei, solely the herc at this point. If there is no trade in offer anymore I'll probably wait a while and just get one in the future. Its just suddenly grabbed my interest again.

I'm still a bit confused when it comes to 3.7 or 7.4v. I don't know which would be better for me if I was using oil only. I have no interest in trying to use the persei as a herb vape really, which is why I sold it back before I had access to oil lol.

3.7v is impossible to burn oil with and you only get amazing tasting vapor but it takes more techhnique and has a slight learning curve to master.

You can use 3.7v with herbs but theres even more technique and learning curve to get the hang of it.

Not sure about the new 7.4v rod, but the old one you get huge clouds with no technique but you have to feather the button to not burn the oil.

Most people are too impatient to get the hang of 3.7v so id say go with 7.4v

I agree. I tried the SR-71 with a 3.7 V (black stripe) rod on my Omicron. After some strenuous puffing and holding the button constantly on I was able to get a few wisps. I think I got lightheaded from hyperventilating rather than from the hit I got. Then I got The Core and with the 7.4 V (white rod) that thing billows more cloud than I can inhale! Even with The Core at 3.7v I got nothing more than wisps (really good tasting wisps). You need Persei w/ 7.4v and extra batteries to go portable with the SR-71-74. IMHO.

7.4v it is. Easier to go light on the throttle in a ferarri than it is to mash the gas in a prius right?

Anyone know about that trade in credit? I've got a couple of various oil solutions I was less than happy with lol.

In some ways I disagree with this idea. You don't teach a guy to drive starting out on the freeway, or learn to ride motorcycles by jumping on the hottest superbike in the dealer. Guys who decide to learn to fly a Cessna fare better than those who start out with a more complex, powerful machine.

The Ferrari might make it to the liquor store faster, but I think the Prius has a better chance of getting home with the beer on average? The Ferrari has the clear edge in the 'more likely to end up in a ditch than the driveway' division of course, but that's not the original goal.......

Once one has learned the skills the rules may change, but starting out I think 'easier to control' is a big plus.

Well 71 then. Hard to keep track. That always scared me about this vape, it is changing so much I can't keep up with it lol.

Hercules whatever is out is the one that is really grabbing my eye lately.

So the 74 is here?

Indeed it is. I just got my set up delivered yesterday (Persei v2 + SS w/ 2x 18650 2200s + Herc SR-74 + Nibbler XL).

I have a few questions for the experts out there:

  • What exactly are the differences between the SR-71 and SR-74? Currently all online video documentation is for the SR-71 only so I'm trying to do some translating in learning how to properly fill and operate the Herc. Here are the differences I have noticed:
    • SR-74 has a metal coil/sponge that is why shorter than the SR-71 with no hook on the top. Why shorter? Why no hook?
    • SR-74 has this like metal cap that screws into the top of the upper chamber. The top of this metal cap is open and fits snug inside the mouthpiece (either standard or Nibbler). What purpose does this metal cap serve?
  • Filling is still a bit of black magic to me. I see that I insert the metal coil/sponge into the upper chamber and then saturate it with oil. How do I know how much to use? I'm assuming this depends on the concentrate being used so just trial and error? What really confused me is that the manual states to use a minimum of 0.5g and max of 1.0g but of course the manual is also for the SR-71 which used a much larger coil/sponge. For reference I am primarily using BHO and CO2.
  • What is the advantage of using the Bender for vaping flowers with the Persei over just filling the upper chamber of the Herc with flowers?
  • I'd like to use my Persei as a hammer for standard dabbing. However, the W9Tech website says that the hammer top no longer ships with the ceramic heating rod. The Bender does says that it includes the hammer ceramic heating rod but no hammer top? Am I correct in assuming the only current way to get a fully functional hammer is to buy both the hammer top and the Bender?
  • How often will I need to replace the new SR-74 coils/sponges? It seems like you could just boil them and reuse them forever?
  • Will the ceramic heating rods in the Herc eventually break? Should I order a white rod to have as a back up while they are still in stock?
  • My Nibbler XL did not come with the 2 o-rings that you put on the bottom/base of the Herc. I ordered some off that oring website thanks to a helpful forum member on this site. Was this just a mistake and they weren't included or are they no longer encouraged for us? The Nibbler mouthpiece for the Herc does have the o-ring on it.
  • The first dry run I did of the Herc there was some smoke that came out of it. I did not disassemble and boil the Herc parts before the first dry run (I know I know but I was impatient). There is no more smoke on subsequent dry runs. Was this just some manufacturing residue?
Wow that turned out to be quite the list of questions and it is only day 2! Thanks in advance for all of the help. I'm really excited that I have entered the world of the Persei!

Ok lets start.

1. The main differences in the SR71 and SR74 are the gold plated AAF, the center post now being more user friendly, meaning it wont come out when you take the top section off, center post having a spring loaded pin to help with contact, bottom adapter being self adjusting because it has a spring loaded contacts.
1b. We cut the coils down so people do not need to cut anymore. The Coils are made from Ti
Grade 2. We took the hook off because people really are not using it.
1c. The top Stainless Cap is to make sure that the proper seal is made for the air flow to travel through the Hercules
2. Start with .4 and add more, make sure to properly cool it down and adjust the air flow as needed.
3. The Bender is loose leaf specific as for the Hercules its made for oils with herb capability as a side effect. The Hercules is ok with herbs the Bender is much better.
4. We are working on bringing out the new Hammer that is why it is not available as of right now and only for the Benders as our stock is running low.
5. The coils can be boiled clean or torched clean. It is Titanium grade 2 so you dont have to worry about it.
6. The Ceramic heating rod is warrantied for 1 year against manufacture defects. It does not hurt to have a second handy because this makes sure you dont have any down time.
7. The Nibbler XL should have come with two orings for the bottom adapter, please submit a ticket and we will get it resolved asap.
8. The first run always needs to be dry as to burn off any residue and breaks the heater in. Some smoke will come off of it but after a 10-20 seconds it stops. This is called the initial burn in period.
