Well, Gary was good enough to start sorting me out, so with any luck I'll be able to medicate towards the end of this week. Huge bummer! I called off work to be able to sign for it today. Now I have to say goodbye to this unit after only two hours. Oh well, here's to hoping the next unit is in working order and comes within the week.

What exactly is the "SS upgrade"?

Also I don't see "Omicron Cartridges" on the delta9 webstie. I see "Omicron Vaporizers" that look to include battery packs just like the Persei itself. The only place I see raw "cartridges" there is no omicron name associated, just "cartridges".

The body of the regular Persei is made for two 18350 batteries max. The SS Kit comes with two tubes that either accommodate a single 18350, or a single 18650, effectively shortening the length of your Persei for 3.7v use.

Since the Kit comes with both a single and dual cart head, this means you can build a second Persei unit and have a 3.7v/6.0v/7.4v regular with your dual or single head, as well as a 3.7v smaller Persei with the remaining head. Pretty good deal if you ever think you'll need two.

Since you are on D9V's website, the cartridges they sell are already Omicron unless stated otherwise (they have atomizers and such that are labeled). If you want to buy an Omicron cart for an Omicron, or similar 3.7v set up, go for the 2.4 and the 1.5 as the Omicron powers those ranges best.

Hey guys, I'm hoping to buy a persei and hercules 7.4v in the nearish future. I have a few super newbie questions if you guys don't mind:

How many times can you reuse the normal non-hercules carts? Is it one full load and done (As in, they're not reusable)? Or can you reuse it a few times? or is it just reused until it "breaks" (whatever/whenever that may be)?

If I get a persei + hercules 7.4v do I still need carts, or does the hercules function as a "replacement" for carts? Are the ones that come with the herc reusable, meaning I don't have to worry about carts anymore? Or are they the same as the normal carts?

The herc 7.4 does work for dry herb as well yes? (A youtube video told me it's a little tricky, but that's fine as long as it's not near impossible).

Also the herc 7.4 v2 will fix any leaking problems right? And if the herc does use normal carts, the 1701 carts have had/will have the leak problems fixed, correct?

Also what exactly is the hammer? Do I need it with the herc/persei?

How many times can you reuse the normal non-hercules carts?

Generally I think most will agree that the carts can take more than one use. Herc is designed to be used over and over and has a 6 month warrantee, "regular" carts have no warrantee. How many uses you can get is based on many factors. Sometime carts will leak from the bottom if it gets too hot, OF has many posts about loading and his advice has served me well. I generally get about 1.5 or 2g through a cart before I stop using it. They may actually have more uses, but I choose to stop. Lately I have been using the iris to go back to old "done" carts and I find that 4.5v does quite a bit to squeeze out the last drop. Flavor does get worse at that heat though.

If I get a persei + hercules 7.4v do I still need carts.

They are totally different beasts. I have not had a lot of time to actually use the Hercs I have, but many others have commented in recent pages. I still use all my 2.4 carts and have never used anything other than 2.4 as far as the oil carts go. Start at 3.7volts 2.4ohm carts and nice blonde wax/crumble.

The herc 7.4 does work for dry herb as well yes?

It works, but again your own success will take time and may or may not meet your expectations. Herb at 7.4 requires a delicate touch. At 3.7 Vito has shown success with his technique in videos.

Hammer is for dabbing oil. I have not used it so I can't comment, but you do not need one with the herc. Herc is basically a mini-hammer and tank reusable system.

A Cautionary Tale

Keep an eye on your battery setups! Last week I came home with a Persei Bubbler. Saturday I needed to work late at home and when I finished my wrist was hurting quite badly. So I decided it would be a good time to try out the bubbler (I have been sick for a while and any stress to my lungs causes bad coughing). I had been using my Iris with 2x18350 bats, set to 3.6 volts and using a 2.4ohm cart with some nice Skywalker wax. When I tried to hook up the bubbler the Persei/Iris was a little too tall for the 'J' shaped glass piece that connects the bubbler to the Persei. No problem I thought, I'll swap out the top for the regular top. Which I did and proceeded to get 3 of the thickest hits I have ever gotten off the Persei. I filled the bubbler up 3 times so thick it looked like solid milk. Didn't hurt my lungs at all, but the effect was so strong after a few minutes I had to lie down for half an hour (but my wrist stopped bothering me).

Only later did I realize I had been using a 2.4 ohm cart on 7.4 volts of battery power. No wonder the hits were so huge and fast! Amazingly the cart still works and I will probably re-fill tonight. I have since found that bumping the juice with the Iris to 4.5 volts has brought some old 2.4 carts back from the dead. Yes the flavor suffers some, but that has never really been a big issue for me.

So 2.4 ohm at 7.4 volts is possible, but you are playing with fire!

@maxvapor in my *ahem* research with the iris i found that the 2.4 ohmers have a huge voltage range, but when pushed over much over 5.4 v started to taste not so nice. the other thing i found is that the more you run them hot (4.+v) the more quickly they burn out. it seems to my reckoning that it cuts cart life by half or more depending on how good the internals are. i think also that newer carts are better built than they used to be, and seem to not to blow for no apparent reason; i think most of us have had carts that die when you put them on the first time, newer ones don't seem to do that as much, but maybe thats me.

i've not tried the 3 or 4 v carts on the iris, thats waiting for research funding from the NSA, but theoretically, they should both be more stable at the higher voltage with good head room (for lack of a better term) to go to 7.4 easily.

any other observations from iris users?

I have two PERSEI's set up with the dual head with one cart in each.
The two singles are also set up.
4 carts with:
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES WAX = 2.4 cart dual head
PRESIDENTS WAX = 5.0 cart dual head
CO2 007 - INDICA = 2.4 cart single head
CO2 SOUR DIESEL - SATIVA = 2.4 cart single head

The 2.4 carts work so well I haven't tried the other options except the 5.0's they come with.

Having the SS kit gives you many kinds of possibilities!

The people at D9V are damn good, even inspected my new unit before sending it out so no problems there. Can we just get these guys to run the DMV as well?

I just traded in my Persei top which allowed the carts to wiggle. I sent in both, the single and double and got back a set of new ones.
They work great.
They double top's button blinks twice every time I get a hit and release it. I release.. light goes out then it blinks twice.
This does not hamper performance in any way. It happens no matter the voltage or the ohm level of the carts used.
I am not complaining, and not looking to make changes... just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

i've run a couple of grams of full melt through my herc with no problems. you do have to stir and tamp it but you can always add more oil to liven the party

But now I'm getting more frustrated. The 18350's charged without problem so I tried a small test of the 5ohm cart waxless, to see if it would light up holding for less than a second. But, as the Universe would have it, my single-cart head is not working. I didn't press the button or anything. I knew something was wrong because the dual-head flashes about five times when screwing it on, single-head appears to be dead.

I'm getting rather weary of all the toil. Do most people go through a couple units before they get a good one?

Opening yet another ticket and hoping Gary can work his magic again. I hate all this money we're wasting on shipping.

Edit: Does anyone pre-oxidize their carts as mentioned in Vaporpedia? I know we should check them for DOA possibility, but how about to burn off that machine oil taste / smell?

I never dry run a cart!
2.4V carts work best and I have no failures with those.
I'm having good luck with a 5.0V cart at the moment.
I primed it however skipped the oxidization step with no problems.
There is a learning curve regardless.

OF is the best teacher. (Hopefully he will chime in?)

Has anyone else experienced the double blink on EVERY release of the button on the double top?

I have seen the button flash like the timeout on an original but I think it has to do with circuit protection. How long are you holding the button? If you press it fast does it still do it or only after a "hit"?
