Do people use that small screen in the mouthpiece or take it out? I read earlier that some people like it without. But since I'm a newb, I like to use it how it was designed to be used and keep it in. It must serve some purpose (I can understand it more with loose leaf, since herbs can get in the mouth).

Please let me know how you are using the herc. With/without the heat shield that covers the cart, with.without mouthpiece screen, etc. any input would be greatly appreciated.
I dont use the screen. I sometimes get hot piece of oil in my mouth, but never burning.

Funny fact: I dint use the black inside "nut" in the mouthpiece holding the screen for a while. I thought it was the aaf many talked about not using.. It was the only piece that you could adjust in my sr71 exept the ceramic rod.. I didnt figure out how to adjust the airflow while screwing and unscrewing it (duh!), so I took it out like the pros to have max airflow (I thought, wrongly, again).

Now I prefer using the black nut; I need less pressure to pull a cloud from my herc. But I still havent used the aaf. Im afraid it will render the cool downs longer and be more prompt to get a full reclaim chamber.

You are correct about the AFF washer. Closing the holes will make the SR run hotter. It will heat up faster. The trade off is longer cooling time. The AFF washer is there to suit people's preference. Some people like a more restrictive draw, the other half prefer free flow draw. Just another way to "tune" your SR to your needs. What works for me, might work for you but with a little tweaking of your own. The AFF washer gives you that freedom.

I too have suffered the woes of other peoples inability to follow the simple directions I give them to use the hercules...it's like it goes in one ear and out the other. It's just such an unknown concept to people, us true hercules aficionados are like a niche, within a niche, wrapped in a mystery and bathed in enigma. I try to keep a KISS cart/globe in my stash in case somebody else asks for a puff hehe, it's just so much easier.

In other news I finally gave my herc a good cleaning after putting a good 15G's of wax and a nice chunk of peanut butter cookie......... although it was still tasting great before now it tastes like the dreamland that I fell in love with at first taste all over again. Just a good solid flush of hot water through the upper chamber with the coils still in till all the black gunk was gone, and a good micro-torching of the ceramic rod. It did take quite a good chunk of wax to resaturate both coils but such is the cost of freedom!

The reason that screen gets covered in oil isn't because you're sucking oil onto it in my experience. The pressure drops on the downstream side of a restriction, and pressure drops make things cool. I took it off because I hit it so much it condenses on top of the screen and completely clogs it. If you were sucking oil onto it, it would be on the bottom of the screen. I talked with them while at the store, and they said people use the hercules for all sorts of stuff, like hash, and it's to keep them from inhaling bits of it. I don't miss it one bit.

That black nut making a tight seal with the oil chamber is important. If you take it out, you draw more air through the ventilation holes in the heat shield than the oil chamber and it hits lousy IMO.

If you cover the holes with the washer, there's no need for cool down hits. When I left the air holes open it would leak into the bottom chamber regardless of how long I did cool down hits. I also hated sitting around sucking on a my persei/hercules trying to cool it down. Kind of makes discretion impossible. Like to hit it and just put it back in my pocket. I think the air holes being at the bottom of the oil chamber is the biggest design flaw of the hercules, but I can't bitch about it because I can't think of a better way.

I don't get leaks unless I get lazy or ride that button long on the nibbler. When I do get leaks I find oil coming through the middle section. Where the nut holds the heater rod in place. Usually not through the 3 holes. I guess it matter how much you have loaded too. I load per session most of the time. Loading heavy is more prone to leaking.

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
Herc with a Nibbler is amazing. I find I get the best results when I watch myself in the mirror. The visual feedback of the vapor production helps me a lot. Hopefully with practice I can get consistent results without the visual feedback. But regardless, this is by far the best concentrate sessions IME. When you get the Herc working right, it blows everything else away. I still find myself slow to recognize a battery that needs charging, or getting low on oils, but when everything is full, the results really blow me away.

Haha I can so totally relate to this! It takes a lot of instruction to get a good Persei session for first timers. Fortunately most of my close friends are pretty used to how it hits now. I've also found that I can prep a cloud for someone myself if they are really struggling.

Regarding the lifespan of Ti Kiss carts I too have experienced that they break more easily than the old Ni coils. Both of the times this happened to me (one 3.7v and one 7.4v) it was due to the wire breaking. I'm not sure if this is because the Ti wire is more brittle or because of the fact that it must be crimped together with the non-resistance wire.

I'm no longer able to order from w9tech.com it seems.

i tried to buy the Persei SSkit 2 AW18650's and 2 AW18350's but i'm being told nothing is able to be shipped to my location <new jersey>.

Was there a new law passed or something i don't know about?

Get hammer top and ss kit... if youre firing just the herc its perfect. I wish i had from the start but my v1 top worked okay. No reclaim on the hammer top!

Thats it just the hammer and ss? Of course batteries...but thats all i need to run the herc?

I have always wondered about the hammer top. My v3 top does the job, but have not tried the experience with the hammer. How does it make it better than me, holding the button down.

The hammer top doesnt come with the ceramic rod anymore, is the ceramic rod necessary for the herc or no?

Get whatever batteries you see fit, the aws work great, but i do recommend a nitecore charger from amazon. Then you just need a stash. I ordered my hammer top a month ago, from w9, enjoying hammer rod as well(it was included!)

Edit: dab right off hammer rod, completely seperate from herc. But you will be completely happy if the herc is what youre going for.

Shit, multiposting everywhere, sorry guys! I cant say for v3 to hammer but from my v1 to hammer was a noticeable difference. I have no reclaim in the bottom after 1 month of no cleaning. I also turn it on and roll it back and forth on the table to even the oil out inside... makes for really consistent clouds.

I dont get something; if you cover the airflow holes, how can you pull a cloud? Through the tiny crack along the lenght of the ceramic rod alone? I have to experiment next time I service/reclaim my sr74x. I have read hundreads of forum pages preaching long cool downs hits to keep the reclaim chamber empty. Now if your experimentation says you dont need cool down hits, thats something I would love to repeat at home. It may even mean you can store it vertical, put it in your hot pockets on a summer time without leaking etc.

The airholes dont get sealed completely by the washer. I dont feel much of a difference open or closed, but the thing isnt leak proof, air or otherwise.

It does restrict the airflow a bit, I will readily concede that, but it's worth it to me to prevent the leaking. It gets air in around the part that holds the rod. I don't store it vertical, but I do put it in my pocket, and I usually have it in a pocket that's completely vertical when I'm walking. Also, I use pretty much exclusively good shatter in it, not sure how much that affects things. One other issue is, if you put a lot of shatter in, it will seal off the air flow entirely at first. You may have to hit it a couple times to liberate the airflow. Also, oil will weep through to the bottom chamber through surface tension, but it doesn't pour through a hole. Way less mess, but eventually you'll have to clean it. I don't notice the airflow restriction as much when I'm using it with the Nibbler XL. I also get to hit it a couple times and throw it back in my pocket making it as discrete as you're going to get with it. Everyone has their preferences with it, but this is the best way I've found to use it so far.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot, it heats up faster with the lower airflow, so you ride the button less, which makes your batteries last longer.

Thanks for sharing again. This is hope for the lazy guy in me :). I think I will try the aaf on my sr71. I have some unwhinterized soft sticky type of qwet in it wich may give me different results from your good shatter, but I dont mind if it leaks since it needs maintenancing anw.

@spoutti In your signature you say you've a "5400 years old Bog Oak stem" and I'm curious, what exactly does that look like? Can you throw up a pic of it? Sounds interesting.

@THC SCIENTIFIC or the lovely @nao12000 --Would any ecig tank that W9 sells work with The Vaporizer battery? I am trying to quit combusting tobacco and have a nice Sieglei w/ Nautilus for home, but I would love something tiny to use working around the house/yard and short trips to the store or such. I realize vapor prodution won't compare and that's fine. The smaller form factor is what I am after moreso than cloud production or super long battery life. Thanks!
sorry been super busy i missed this post .. any of our ejuice tanks will work i prefer the protank for juice..

I have found that @Big Baby Jesus opinion of using hard shatter(high quality) does make the SR less prone to leakage. Shatter that turns to a solid quickly does not leak. Usually requires minimal cool down. I put everything in my SR, from quality to high quality. Crumbles to shatters. Point is every concentrate is different. That's why the SR is awesome, it will handle everything. I always store my SR upright. I use it daily. Never leaks unless you don't cool it down or it sits upright over 2-3 days. Also I don't think cooldown hits are absolutely necessary when u take 1-3 rips. Just keep inhaling after u let go of the power button. Match the seconds u had the power ON with inhaling with power OFF. This cools down the SR enough to not leak. Perfect for at work breaks. Cool down hits over 40+ seconds are when u are having a good long session. During good long sessions the SR outer black shell will get warm. This is your gauge to how hot it is without taking it apart. Sneaky hits during a 15 min work break should not get the Outer shell warm.

Glad I read this, I've had my herc for months and mine has had zero airflow lately when I first start it up. I thought it was the temp getting lower (lower for me is 60's so I was skeptical), I only recently actually started buying shatter. Takes awhile sometimes to get the airflow back and then I get a bit of a burnt taste. After that it works perfectly again. I think I'll try pulsing a bit until I get airflow before taking my first hit.
