The Mighty/Mighty+ by Storz & Bickel

Hopefully someone will give you a lot more details, but for now...
Hey, Welcome to FC and to vaping flower, etc.!
The temps you are using are nowhere close to combustion, and even at highest temps it would be unusual for any combustion in a Mighty.
If it ever happens, you will absolutely know, unless your current habit alternates vaping with smoking (combusting...)!

I have no idea what that shock-like sensation may be. Again, unusual from a Mighty, they just don't spike like that.
Thank you, yeah...I'm really going to pay attention next time I experience it (it's infrequent, but not very pleasant LOL) and make sure I can describe it better. Thanks for the warm welcome, and yeah I never smoked (anything) before either (it was edibles before this), so it's been a whole new world for me, and it's been so much fun getting different devices and learning all about this. I still feel kind of "dumb" with questions, but I'm learning the more I read here :-)

You picked a great device to start with, for exactly the reasons you’re asking. The S&B products are dead simple and just do their job; as you continue to learn (and get VAS infected) you will start to want vapes that give a certain flavor, certain effects, or certain ritual. Sometimes they require quite a bit of technique to get good results, which can be frustrating if you’re just learning!

Welcome, and best of luck on your journey!

Thank you, I'm really appreciating how simple/easy to use the device is, and how it is very easily letting me explore different temperatures (although I stick to the lower ones right now). I also like to clean it each day (a little OCD there LOL), and like that everything is easily cleaned and there really isn't any build up doing it each day. It's been a great device to start with, and allowed me to experience some differences with other devices to explore the things I like most.

New to this forum and it's been very helpful, as I've only been dry vaping for about 6 months, But with my Mighty+ (purchased just a few months ago as well) sometimes I notice a couple of things and wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced this? as well as another question...Just for context, I use the dosage capsules all the time, and my temperature starts at 356ºF and I never go any higher than 370/375ºF when I step up.

1. Sometimes people talk about a dry vape combusting (when it's not supposed to), and I was curious, how do you know when/if that happens -- how can you tell?

2. There were a couple of times when I was using the Mighty+ and it kind of felt like a little/quick spark/shock/snap-sensation and maybe even feeling like a tiny "hot" ember coming into my lungs? I'm going to try and pay more attention if it ever happens again so I can describe it better, but that's kind of how I remember it happening? Any idea what's happening there?

Thank you :-)
I don’t know about the “hot ember” part (my guess is after a few hits, the mind goes to strange places!) but the quick ”shock” could perhaps be the time-out indicator?

(Sorry if following is over-explaining):
Right before the Mighty automatically shuts off, it will give you a haptic buzz, and a few seconds later, it will buzz again and then shut off.
You can quickly press the power button when you feel this and it will reset the timer and not turn off.

The Mighty will turn off after a minute (I believe it is a minute, but never timed it myself) if one of the following happens:
- there is no activity (basically you leave it on the table for a minute or so)
- the temp doesn’t drop a certain amount (like when you take a long hit, the temp will dip for a few seconds while cool air is mixing in with oven, but if it is a short hit, the temp may not drop enough to reset timer)
- you do not give the power button a quick press to reset the auto timer.

Could that be the “shock” you are feeling?

Also welcome!!!

Thank you so much, I do know what you are describing, and yes...I notice the vibrations when it's ready to end the session. This is different, it kind of like an electric static sensation. I'm going to really pay attention the next time it happens and I'll probably ask S&B if it's anything to worry about (happens infrequently, but I'm also kind of "braced" with anxiety waiting for it to happen LOL). So yeah...I will pay more attention so I can describe it to them if it occurs again. In the meantime, I really appreciate this forum and all the aspects of vaping I'm learning about.

When we talk about combustion we literally mean a tiny fire that spreads through the herb and completely consumes it. Afterward the left over material will be black and ashy; when rubbed between your fingers it smears and leaves a stain (like ash). As others said this is almost impossible to do in a Mighty. This is mostly an issue with butane heated, unregulated or exceptionally powerful vapes.

Air coming through a vape is much hotter than you are used to and that is likely causing that zing sensation in your throat. There isn't enough voltage in this system for an electrical spark or shock and there are no burning sparks. Your body gets used to the heat after a while and it becomes less of an issue. I run almost all vapes through a rig for extra cooling, when I use them out I get a bit of a sore throat.

This was very helpful, thank you so much. No, I've never seen any combustion (ever with any vape so far based on this definition, and that makes sense becuase I don't like going about 370/375ºF right now LOL). And yes, I have a bubbler coming soon and I'm so excited to see how that affects the vapor!

I think personally, @Timps27 , nailed it!
The Mighty is a fantastic device, and I am grateful to have known it.(I bought 12 Mighty's over the years...all in different places stached around our blue dot.

I am happy to have given them all away, although I did share a tear last week when the orange button stopped working..

I will not buy a new one, there are way way better vapes out now.
my personal favourite at the moment is the Hybrid.
I love it with the reducerbowl, it performs like the mighty but then better.........
I could not fantom using it without the Obsidian..

I’ve got a couple of concerns about my new Mighty+. I’ve had an OG Mighty for years so I’m comparing to it. After 3 or 4 hits you can feel something pulsing slightly when you’re hitting it. It's not haptic. More like the pulse you feel in your draw through a bubbler with water. If I swap the CU for a spiked glass stem, I get the same pulsing.

My second concern is that on longer sessions when the mouthpiece starts to gets hot, the draw becomes very restricted. It's like I'm trying to hit an overpacked DynaVap. Maybe the CU is accumulating resin MUCH faster than my OG Mighty? I use both at 385 Fahrenheit. I always use capsules without lids so I’m used to that restriction. BTW my Mighty+ only gets me through nine 0.7g bowls on a full charge.

Suggestions on what causes / fixes for either issue?

why is this a concern/what do u think it means?

what screen do u have on the CU?

I'm concerned that the pulsing sensation & the CU accumulating rosin much faster than my OG Mighty could mean there are issues with the batter/heater not maintaining the set temp despite the readout on the screen. Is getting me through only nine 0.7g bowls at 385 degrees F on a full charge normal for a Plus?

I'm using the standard screen in both the Plus and the OG.

I've experienced this from a couple of my vapes when used in very specific ways. I think it is just a vibration\pressure oscillation created when the resistance and flow rate are just so. It's not a malfunction of the vape. You are probably just getting unlucky with your preferred use pattern matching this vibration frequency. Change your stem, pack, or draw rate and it will probably go away.

You've discovered a subsonic wind instrument.

Interesting. Makes me think of some test results I saw where the reviewer showed a vape was maintaining temp by sustained rhythmic pulses. He said that was a less desirable form of temp control for reasons beyond my technical understanding. I’ll try your suggestions.

My OG Mighty never did this and never got hot all the way to the mouthpiece. So I’m not feeling like my new Plus is an upgrade.

I dropped the temp 5 degrees, switched to a sidecar bubbler, and changed my draw rate: so much better that I don't think I'd notice it if I wasn't looking for it. Thanks a million!

@Wai'uli'uli try vaping without dosing caps, you're going to enjoy it much more.
I find that the best and cleanest way to use the Mighty, is to use the large bottom piece of a dosing capsule, fill it with herb, don't use the top of the capsule, but instead use a mesh screen on top.
This method allows a lot more air flow through the herb, without the same restriction of the capsule lid, yet also keeps the chamber at the top of the Mighty clean ;)

Using Crafty CU (Cooling Unit) with Mighty vaporizer - I do this with my Mighty, and I find that it "hits harder" than using the Mighty CU - Does anyone else do this, and if so what are your thoughts on it?

Glad to hear it's improved. My TinyMight stem was dirty and packed too tight the other day and it started to do that weird pulse. It was enough that I stopped and looked at it mid hit thinking "what the hell is your deal?". My Ghost does it occasionally but that's a vape famous for weird behaviors.

I don’t use the dosing cap at all, but I do use the concentrate screen in top (apparently they have stopped making these, which kind of stinks)
and it definitely keeps the CU much cleaner for much longer than without.
The oven itself stays pretty clean, just a brush out here and there and occasionally an ISO wipe is all it needs.
i have never been a big fan of the capsules, the softness of the metal always made me leery it was seeping into the goodies, but that is just a me thing.

I use my Crafty CU when my Mighty CU’s are dirty.
I haven’t ever noticed a difference in hits, but I will take notice the next time I use it and report back.

Hi Wai'uli'uli, welcome to the forum and to vaping.

Regarding your first question, I don't know from what you said if you have quit combustion entirely, but if you have, and you experience is like mine, you will immediately know you have combusted because your hit will taste like burned a** :-) I don't think the Mighty+ will get hot enough to combust, since it maxes out at 410F (210C), and even if it can go a little above this, it's still far from combustion temps. On my other vapes where it is possible the nasty taste is also usually accompanied by a large puff of smoke often coming from the bowl (like on a dynavap or anvil I combusted in)

Regarding your spark, could it be that you are somehow getting a small particle of ground material into your lung? If you clean your head piece every day there would be no buildup for anything to stick to so I find this plausible. I try to always use the fine screen on the bottom of my Mighty+ cooling unit, it helps keep down any particles in the cooling unit. Mine came with a coarser and a finer screen, with the coarser one installed. If you haven't yet, maybe try installing the finer screen?

Hope this helps. The Mighty+ is really a fantastic vape. Mine was long my daily driver before I got my first ball vape, and is still my go to if I need a portable. You really did pick one of the best portable vapes.

Wow...I think you answered it!!! I think it was possible that once in a while a fine piece of ground material was getting past the screen (as you say I clean it after every use, so nothing really is going to stick to it). I just replaced the coarse screen with the fine screen (from some extras I had) and I haven't had that happen again. And yeah...I've never smoked before (I'm a combustion virgin as far as I know LOL) and definitely never had a burned a** taste from the device LOL I think it was this fine material getting through the filter. I try to ground coarse using the Grinders for Life coarse plate, bet even then there are some pretty small pieces that get created...I will try to grind it "less" even with the coarse plate. Thank you so much for this information -- I think you got it.

That's awesome, I'm happy it helped!

There is also a substance I just saw online called "vape wool" which is degummed hemp fibers. I think it's intended as a more natural substitute for a concentrate pad, but you could also put some into your Mighty cooling head to catch any errant pieces of material. Of course it would catch resin and you'd have to change it out, but that is another option if the fine screen still lets you down.

If you've never combusted, I think you'll know it if you accidentally did it. Your previously delicious strain will taste burnt. I know that's kind of a stupid/obvious way to describe it, but it's the most accurate way to put it. If you do combust I think you'll be able to taste the difference immediately. Also, you'll probably cough your head off if you're used to vaping ;-)

I picked up a Mighty+ last week.
Couldn't resist the best portable Vaporizer running for the last 4 years. I have to admit, very nice heavy hitter, yet smooth. I had always had doubts about the vapor path as it's basically all plastic. But it has no taste at all and holds up to the heat very well. Only had it for a week but I'm very impressed.
I'm working on making a Caddy for it. Something that holds the dosing caps, brush, and a couple of containers for ABV and herb. Just something to keep all the goods together for moving from room to room etc.
Here is the initial design I've come up with.
0zl0ivygR28qOYcLdCu_1BPFxEw9DZE_Tya5jHm4WhAZMsXE-UdJTgQacj07TWGshRfoe7qH3Rkimc1FoMNy2D--u-EFs5z_tje8HBKYCc2ueeaXrJcfKORa3yUsZtddmdCeJgB-ONvPydWK

The containers are attached and can be adjusted for different heights. The bottom piece is partitioned so can be removed from the caddy.
j5P3yQGXZH2sVD3drixvfqLQsTXHgXbURRkypygL-O4EWP4-EmlBui7PC1ZNeQaK6Ed0uQq6zkn30GCnoah1t06zuyeW5cPzoN8NJ8t95MfM51Dk70A_ZlisUbMXawaYMZ2so7YHbcMqEfrT

The handle flips up and snaps to the top of the Mighty to hold down while carrying. The dosing capsules also snap into the Caddy and will not fall out.
75g9zgijOmKvOjThrHzW7dyxtSk3ER0jQUmIJEdAbHPsxDplpeREzqA49xAF78InEct8MKSjPYXYh1YKnwB4rKFzya5xafbBC4BUbtu3yg-E2JVjvgYVvS2rnNcGvxR5-c4x0W57DuaZQd3z

The rear of the unit has a holder for the cleaning brush and a couple of small drawers to hold spare screens and Orings. A few more dosing caps can also be stored in these drawers.

Once I finalize the design, I'll be putting it up on Thangs for download.
What do you guys think?
I have finalized the Mighty Caddy. Added a few more features as well as some more storage options for the dosing capsules.

I designed some tubes that hold 7 caps each. The above shows 5 tubes for a total of 35 caps.

The tubes are the exact size of a 18650 battery so there are many existing options for tube storage. I made two containers to put the tubes into. One holds two and the other holds three. They are clipped onto the larger storage tubes on the Caddy.
I have also added a scoop to help with loading. It stows away in the handle.

I'm very happy with the results. However, what's funny is now I started using the Might without the dosing caps and find it better and easier to swap out the loads. So as usual, back to the drawing board to redo to meet the needs of using without doing caps. 😜 Likely a vertical caddy this time. 🤨
If anyone wants the STL files for the above Caddy, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to share. 🤤
