I wouldn't recommend it over a modern vape but it's like having a Vapocane or something: it's surpassed by modern vapes, sure, but it's still as good as it ever was. In either case, they're pretty fun and effective. I recommend it more in terms of collecting fun vapes to play with rather than refining your collection to top choices.

And dubious health/build claims aside, I wouldn't consider it much of a danger. There's better, sure, and if you vape for health purposes, it makes sense to evaluate it carefully and perhaps use it sparingly if you want one but harbor concerns. All of this carries some level of risk.

It was a very cool concept and different from most other vaporizers. Innovative. Used with a battery the whole rig is very small and easily palmed or slipped into a pocket if the wrong person shows up. Have to pull mine out and try it again!

It’s not a great choice nowadays but it’ll work! I really enjoyed mine 13-ish years ago, but now it’s just a collector’s piece for me after moving on to more modern devices.

Main annoyance is that it uses AA NIMH batteries so battery life is pretty short compared to other budget options like any of the xmax/planet of the vapes/etc offerings. Would probably be worth making a thread in the AskFC forum for device suggestions since the rules here discourage device comparisons within specific device threads.

thanks ! I was unaware of that rule ;) very appreciated I might try to find one on the cheap knowing it would have been my choice 15 years ago If I picked one...

Yeah the batteries discharge fairly quickly so you always had to carry a few batteries with you. The unit comes with a little battery charger which works but not as well as a larger unit I got, Powerex brand, which gives you digital readout on the voltage for each battery and has programs you can run to keep the batteries in good shape. If you are going to use it much you kind of need a better charger so that kind of increases the cost of running this vape slightly.

What are the best commercially available NiMH Rechargeable AA Batteries for the Launch Box?
Can't answer that but they just sent me a notice for new Power Up adapters in stock. They're factory seconds so they're reduced:

According to a post on Reddit, MFLB is under new leadership and trying to get back up and running. The Power Up is part of that, and Orbiters are in stock. Their new leader expressed strong interest in 510 power regulation, and people broached the subject of a desktop design.

I think they should work with @TPV and put these into production:

I’d love a 510 launch box! Been missing hiking with it lately, but none of my batteries hold a charge anymore. Probably would still be just a novelty for me, but more variety in my vape rotation would be very welcome.

Wow, that's exciting news. I like the mflb a lot but it's annoyed me so much how absolutely lazy this company has been all these years.

Fantasies of what might be aside, where do you get batteries? And what mAh? Do we even know what the MFLB batteries are? I have a couple of the gold batteries they sold a few years ago that are still working but require charging after clearing three 0.10gm trenches to about 80% toasted ( I don’t like the taste beyond this.) I use the MFLB maybe 3 days a week now as I find it’s the most economical with bud because it extracts so well. I have a Pax3, several Boundless CFVs with non-replaceable batteries that only last 15 minutes, an old EDIT Convector that still works, a DynaVap that I never really got into because I hate fooling around with a torch. Even though the MFLB requires double grinding with a Nano and the Finishing Grinder, and shaking between hits, I find that it's really the most satisfactory overall experience for flavor, clouds, and on-demand use. So, where do you get new batteries? From MFLB at $13.50/pair? 4 Eneloop Panasonic 2100mAh are $14.50 on Amazon. Other, better options?

I just got them from MFLB. I don't know what people use beyond those so I'm interested as well. Mine haven't really worn yet as far as I can tell.

When I tried my MFLB recently I used an Energizer rechargeable since it had the highest amperage of all the batteries I had on hand. Eneloop probably would work, but I think the amperage was a little low for what they had posted on their site at the time. Unfortunately MFLB appears to have removed the battery specs page so I’m not sure what values to look for
