The Lotus Vaporizer

NO SMOKING
So after more than two weeks using the Lotus I can safely say that I have not yet seen the light at the end of the learning curve tunnel. I have had a few bowls in which I manage to vape perfectly; but way more often than not I end up overdoing it; and get almost smokey tasting vapour or charring the herb. In comparison I learnt to use the MFLB in a day.

The lotus is clearly a great bit of kit that one must take the time to master before knocking it; BUT! I vape for health reasons and my health does not have the time to be half combusting all the time. So for now this beautiful Lotus will be sidelined until I work out how to escape this catch 22 situation.

Edit: Any advice is welcome. I try and keep the flame as high as possible. I try and do it in short bursts. But I just can't keep the consistency.

My Lotus came in the mail :) but package is missing the stem :uhoh:.
So I can't be of too much help yet.

But from what I've read so far on this board, everyone talks about the lighter.

P.S. Mendocino promptly mailed out stem on same day:clap:.

@voodoo_vape

Fill it to just below the honeycomb and you should be good to go!

@sativasam

How full are you filling to bowl? I use a tiny pinch, enough to cover the screen and maybe 2mm high. This is about 0,05g. I hear the very centre of the plate till it just turns a very dull red and then start inhaling and I move the lighter higher up and move in circles all the time. Once the vapor starts to come stop heating and just inhale to clear. I started with a bong song could see the vapor forming, much easier than starting with the stem!

Sounds like you need a smaller flame and a faster inhale to keep the air moving faster to prevent scorching.

It took me a week to perfect it! Don't give up on the Lotus!!
I have not used any of my regular vapes since getting the Lotus, it IS that good!!

Maybe try long slow draws instead of short bursts, pulling back more on the flame once things get going.

We are all different!
I think the LOTUS is a complete analog vaporizer.
OK it's cheap.
The WPA is better than most vaporizers hands down.
I use mine sometimes.

It did take me some time to develop the skill to vaporize with it.

Some like the MFLB however 13 batteries wasn't very stealth?

I need a power hit from time to time!
The thing for me is the LOTUS kicks my a@@ hard!

There are times when it is needed!

I often fill the bowl at least half full. I will try smaller amounts.

I'll try a faster draw and smaller flame and see how it helps.

Even with the tips you have given me, I still feel that it will be hard to consistently get the torch at the right height. Especially as the more you use the torch it runs out of gas, meaning the flame decreases in size.

I'll explain my routine in the hopes there are same gaping holes in my technique.

I find myself getting closer and closer to the plate as the flame size decreases. I have been using my torch from full to empty before re-filling. I try to heat the plate as lightly as possible, with the flame as high as i can get away with. It works at first and I get nice light vapour. I take the cap off and mix it with the stick. Then I try and repeat this action, with slightly less heating time each time. Even though no visual part of the flame is touching the cap, I often scorch after the first couple of draws. :(

Edit: I am using the torch that comes with the Lotus kit when ordering from Vapefiend (UK). Surprisingly I can't find the details of the torch anywhere on their website, and I don't have the packaging anymore. Vapefiend are pretty reliable, but anyone know if this lighter is maybe part of the problem?

I have a torch collection.
A right angled Torch works best for me.
The Lighter than comes with the kits will work however a right angled torch is easier.

It sounds like my vape time that I didn't know how to properly fire up the Lotus. Personally, I think that you need to start your torch close enough to the plate until it turns slightly red like @lazylathe mentioned, btw cheers for the info about the honeycomb :) .
As soon as it gets red, you will see vape coming out. Then you will eventually start experimenting with your timings and the torch power etc. Aim though for the short period heat up and not the one that takes longer. You will be surprised with the difference in the quality of your vape. Imagine that personally I take a proper hit within like 10'' more or less. And don't be discouraged from the brown color that your herb will have. This will give you at least 1-2 extra hits. Say for 0.1 you can make almost 3 or even 4 proper hits out of it.

Hope that I helped a bit.

I wrote an answer the other day but got some Error and erased all of it...

Some tips :
The brigther, inner flame should size like the distance from 2 tips of the Lotus flower.
The tip of the outter flame licking the center of the cap. Turn around it when it gets slightly redish in the center since it's a sign of over-heating !
When I'm outside and it's windy/cold, this is the inner flame (only one you can really see) which touch the plate and sometime the flame is bigger as well.
I move further from the plate generally when the torch goes low in gas and so the size of the flame is changing.
I still use an "old style" plate, but I haven't noticed much difference with the newer one.

Try to think about the airflow and convection happening while pre-heating and adjusting your draw continuously. Then you'll be able to play around till the borderline without nasty experience. Personally I had much easier learning the Lotus.
Enjoy !

I get the best results by generously preheating and doing long slow steady sipping hits allowing the payload to warm up slowly and time for the vapor to make its way out of the plant matrix. For best results keep the bowl warm between hits by not sucking all the heat out at the end of the first hit and following hits on a bowl will curl your toes.

I rarely torch a load since installing a fine screen in the vapor cap. I suspect sometimes a bit of debris lodged in the vapor cap may spark up and get sucked in to the payload causing combustion and also the presence of the screen in the airpath probably attenuates the heat flowing from the cap to some minor degree as well.

Keep practicing. This vape will produce God Tier results with the right technique.

I am also a little puzzled about Steve stopping sending Lotus to Greece. I am not sure exactly how many friends of mine have bought their vapes from Lotus but I guess they are not few... :( I will have to order mine from friends in the US next time... :(

:D
I apologize for our not shipping to Greece anymore. The problems that occurred with lost and misplaced orders made it not worth the hassle.

Ive been looking at the lotus and vapman for a while now as an alternate to my electronic vapes. I was looking to order the lotus with wpa kit on the site. I like to vape at high temps for pain relief and I do like hash and wax as well, should I just skip the normal cap and go straight to the high temp cap? will it combust herb if I put it in there? I just cant afford to buy both caps right now

speaking of which, I saw this one on aliexpress. Has anyone used it? It looks like a decent torch, more solid than the honest one, as it looks like, and with a relatively reasonable price. I'm thinking of ordering 2-3 of them to try them out.

Well, this is not very convenient. I know what you're saying and you have every right to do so. BLOODY Greeks is what I have to say! ;)
Nevertheless, those that did not cause you any problems and received their items properly don't they get to be on a "whitelist" that you can ship to them or would it be considered as discrimination?
edit:In addition, you could change the way that you ship the products so that the recipient would be notified from their local post office that the item has arrived. There are ways to ensure safe delivery and be able to know when someone has truthfully not received the order.@Max Jitter

I feel like if I had the glass attachment for the lotus I would find it easier to control the outcome as I would be able to see how much vapour is being produced. Often with the metal pipe I have no idea if I have achieved anything until I exhale.

I also have difficulty with the pipe and just use it with my glass. The WPA is a must in my opinion!

After a while you get a hang of it, well at least for me. The stem(metal pipe) works great for me, it's unbreakable (broke 2 j-hooks:sherlock: already :bang: ...one with thicker glass would be great!), love the feel, temp and taste. WPA is must thou

With the stem I took the screw out and use the carb, seems it cools everything faster. I start by drawing very slow (after the 5 sec heat up), when I start to feel some vapor (about 5 seconds later, if you have doubt of the vapor you can just separate your lips and kinda close your mouth and you'll see vapor coming out your mouth) I draw back the flame a bit and continue to draw but a little faster to cool down the plate and then back close again... If i feel that I over heated the plate, I turn off the flame and continue to draw till it cools (one big rip would do it), I've had none accidental actual combustion this way, just really dark ABV when i'm pushing the edge of extraction. (excuse my bad english:\, hope this makes sense.) saludos.

could I get some opinions on the high temp cap vs normal and which you prefer, I like the high temp because I like full extraction for pain relief and I like concentrates as well, but having to replace it every 3-6 months seems pretty expensive

Only need to replace the nickel plate, $15 part. The cap itself can take quite a beating from what ive heard. Funny, I've combusted in the jhook easier than the stem. I also removed the screw for carb and cooling.

I prefer the pipe stem to the WPA, but I prefer dry hits in general, so take that for what it's worth. I also leave the screw in--I find it's cool enough anyway, and I don't see the point of a carb on this thing. You can cool down the plate just by removing the heat source and continuing to draw, and you clear what little chamber there is in the process.

Nevertheless guys, dry hits give you stiff throat. Although they're tastier and to an extend more powerful, they will get you coughing much easier than a bubbler/bong. The hits you take with those, are enormous!
I personally prefer any water tool to the stem or a pipe but the stem works like a charm and for outdoor use is just what you need! 4x4 off road!:evil:
