The Lotus Vaporizer

Welcome to the club!

I get a feeling from what I've been reading, that when the Lotus first came out with the Aluminum stem, the overall response was "meh" - aside from the true vape connoisseurs who recognized it's brilliance. Once @Max Jitter released the WPA, the game changed completely. Sure the Lotus V2 introduced some design changes which increased the performance overall, but the WPA is what makes the Lotus such an amazing work of art. In fact, I first saw some video over on the cheap glass bubbler thread with someone using a lotus, and I HAD to figure out what it was. The WPA opens a variety of options. Some for portability, some to show off how much vapor the Lotus can produce. I love having this option (I like to customize).

Someone else said it best (sorry - just finished a long session, too lazy to quote whoever said it) - electronic temp controlled vapes are like automatic cars, the Lotus is a manual. The hits you get are determined by how you heat it with a torch - the torch and control over the flame are what determine the hit you get.

While there are other butane powered vapes, most of them seem to suffer from butane gas mixing with the air coming into the vape. The Lotus avoids this by placing them on the bottom, hence some people referring to it as a "Clean Air" vape.

As they all say, there is no 'perfect' vape. But if you want an extremely reliable vape (assuming an infinite supply of torch lighters! lol) that runs on butane, this is it. You'll probably never need another butane vape after the Lotus

I kinda wish I had found the Lotus BEFORE buying the DV Ascent. I could have bought ALL accessories for the Lotus and then some spares for the price I paid for that Ascent. Maybe I'll sell it to a friend and buy more glass for my Lotus instead! lol

Better hurry! 420 sale ends soon!
Thanks! I think you just pushed me over the edge.

Thanks! I think you just pushed me over the edge.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say this might not be for you. The concept is the same as a genie. you heat something up and suck air over it, and you have to control the temp manually. I was very good at the genie, at this transferred over to the lotus. the difference for me is you don't have to suck on it while heating up the stone in the genie. with the lotus you heat it up first before sucking, so that's better. but if you couldn't get a good hit off a genie I'm not sure how good you will be at this one.

don't get me wrong, i love the lotus and recommend it, but I just don't find it to be that much different to operate than a genie. the taste is better and i don't run out of breath, but i don't get any bigger hits from the lotus than i did with the genies.

I kinda disagree that the WPA changed the game for the Lotus. The WPA was here before the V2 came and this thread was still dead. When the V2 arrived and performed much better than the first, me and a few other members started writing racing reviews and the thread went from 20 pages (in 3 years!!!) to what it is now, in a few months.... The changes of the V2 were dramatic for the end result! ;)

I'm seriously thinking about adding this to my collection but I haven't used flame in a long time. Been chasing SOLO clouds for years. Any thoughts on the difference? Am I ready to add needing a lighter to my list of things to remember?

List of things needed for the Solo-

1) Heating Unit
2) Glass stem
3) Charger

List of things needed for the Lotus-

1) Heating Unit
2) Metal Stem
3) Lighter

They're pretty similar in form factor (I'd argue the lotus is smaller), but they offer two different experiences, of which I personally recommend the Lotus.

You should try both though! They each have their own unique thing going on.

Exactly pal, past summer was lotus flowering.

Has anyone actually needed any spares like the flower plate?

I was thinking of getting spares but in half a mind to get a spare lotus instead.

I can order the parts off Lotus they do ship international has anyone in Europe purchased direct from lotus?

@natural farmer and others on this thread have ordered to Europe. You won't have any problems apart from import taxes.

A spare vapour cap would be the way to go if you've got the cash to spare but it doesn't appear that many people wreck their plate. With reasonable care you should be right without the spare parts.

CS, I'd buy a spare cap (just in case some calamity should make it's use necessary)

The replacement plate is more of a "as needed" item. If you go back somewhere in this disucussion, you'll find some posts with pics of caps with plates that are in pretty beat up shape. I commented that my plates didn't look nearly as bad. But this is before I stopped using the Honest and started hitting it with a more beefy torch (hotter/ faster). I really think doing this puts more wear and tear on the plate. Also, personal habits, like carrying the Lotus around in your pocket (w. the aluminum stem) contributes as well.

That said, I think eventually I'm going to get a couple extra plates. J hooks too. I managed not to break the one I purchased from MT, but I loaned it to my kid and he dropped it in pretty quick order. Again, earlier in this discussion there are a few pics of J hook carnage. It'll happen, so I also highly recommend the aluminum stem for those who may be relying on a J hook for their Lotus usage (plus it's much more suited for pocket carry). It's a minor price to pay for the peace of mind.

The lighter is great when it works mines given up again but anyway a backup is ideal even if it works well.

I didn't choose glass because I'm not to be trusted with glass when stoned
I think of all the vaporizer companies "LOTUS" has the best stem (adapter) hands down!

I drop it all the time and it doesn't break!
Every Glass water adapter from other companies I've broke and had to replace many times.
Talk about expensive!

#1 Adapter goes to "LOTUS"!

Payday is Wednesday and I'm soooooo close to pullin' the trigger on the glass J kit. Is the lighter that comes with the kit any good or do I need to start researching lighters?

I'd recommend the Honest to any user who's a beginner w. a torch. It works well. It is a smaller flame so it may take a little longer to get things up to the desired temps, but it's also much more difficult to accidentally combust with. You can upgrade latter which will give you more time to learn, compare and shop around.

It doesn't take long at all to master the use of this piece. So start reading up on lighters now.

Just ordered my girlfriend a glass j hook kit (and myself a backup plate as well as a used metal stem).

She doesn't know and is going to love it!

How should I surprise her?

I'd pack it with the finest around and hand it to her ready to go. Of course with a ribbon and card afixed to it. Also she has to have her eyes closed when you hand it to her as a suprise.

Well I'm mistaken, I'm still new around these parts, haven't fully read the entire thread from start to finish yet (Haven't had a boring day at work yet, lol). Interesting, so the V2 performance was the catalyst for the Lotus' popularity. I thought it was the WPA.

I think they should update the instructional videos - I personally don't like to watch and wait for the red spot - does anyone still use this method? Sure I move my torch around for an even burn, but I don't keep an eye on the red glow

Thanks for all the replies.

Just noticed the 420 discount so I ordered

Screens
Plate kit
Zip bag
And I thought about the other spares and just got a long stem lotus as back up

With the discount it came to cheaper than I'd have thought with the 25 usd shipping so if I get import taxed it will still be good value.

Also, sometimes word of mouth just takes a while to build, especially when there's no aggressive advertising.

Hey all!

I've been running on my last reserves for a few days waiting until payday. Finally came to the point where I broke down, and decided to reclaim the oil. I had been using 50ML vials to clean my DV Ascent glass stems (soak in grain alcohol to extract most of the resin, then transfer to another vial full of ISO and salt for scrubbing action).

Anyway I had about 40mL of pure Grain Alcohol + resin (very nice and dark golden brown color). So I followed the instructions found on this site to reclaim my resin (Pie plate on saucepan of boiling water until grain is evaporated, scrape heat, and repeat to remove excess alcohol).

I now have a HUGE pile of pure extract begging to be vaped. So I purchased some 100% organic cotton from my local pharmacy (I assumed I needed organic). I haven't fully read the Vaping with Cotton thread (just started reading it this afternoon). But I'm curious how ya'll vape this stuff with the lotus.

I'm currently taking a a pin, grabbing some of the resin on the tip, heating it up, and wiping on a piece of cotton. Then I'm wrapping into a ball (pretty tight ball?) and trying to vape. I'm getting some nice clouds, but I'm having to use a LOT of heat to create the clouds. Is this normal?

Should I try using less cotton and more oil? Can the oil soaked cotton come into contact with the WPA or is that just making a mess?

Feeling nice and toasty right now on what otherwise would have been washed down the drain, so I'm not complaining!

The scoops break so easily, use the other methods people have talked about or get a small spoon.

I'm concerned about scratching the anodising of my 4 part SCS grinder (when I get it) with the scoop. I think I'll get one and use it with the Volcano grinder, but when I get the SCS, I think I'll use a wooden teaspoon or my fingers.

@Ratchett I know oil vapes at a higher temp than herb, so that makes since.

In other news...
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on an AL stem (long) and a spare hot plate along with some other accessories.
Can't let a perfectly good sale go to waste.
