So I received my Bocote Hi today that I got from the classifieds. I was so hyped to get this but there is a small issue. First off the wood is beautiful! I am very amazed at the small form factor. The problem is that there is a very strong essential oil odor coming from the heater port like oil was spilled down there. Is there any way of getting rid of this smell? I have other logs that I use oil with and none of them smell. Please help!! I want to love this thing but right now I'm kinda disappointed.

EDIT: ok I have received some info on getting rid of the smell so I will try that. Worst case if that doesn't work I guess I can get a new core from Alan?

EDIT EDIT: So I thoroughly cleaned it and it's sparkling on the inside...no visible residue. However, I can't get rid of that faint oil smell and it's driving me crazy! I just sent Alan an email. I'm hoping a new core fixes this :(

EDIT EDIT EDIT: I'm gonna just leave it on 12 v as someone suggested to see if it burns off, but I'm not too optimistic.

Ok first off a big thanks to the jedHI's who PM'ed me with tips and reassurance. I can say that after 24 hours the smell is 95 % gone and I'm now confident it will totally go away. Now on to the vape... All I can say is wow. I have been holding and admiring it all night long (wife wasn't too amused mind you). The Bocote wood is so georgous! As others have stated before, pictures just don't do it justice!! I shined her up with some Zap oil and that in itself was like therapy. The lines, the smoothness, all signs of something very special, something carefully crafted to exact specifications, and you can tell just by holding one in your hands. I should never have doubted the allure of the HI! Its like the start of a relationship. I'm excited at the new adventures ahead.

And in the true nature of HI owners past and present, JedHI Elluzion sent her off packaged safe and sound and inside put a detailed hand written note for ME the proud new owner. In the note were tips on usage, a diagram for using the voltage tester and some other thoughtful info...Thank You!

PS I will let you know when I find the Alien holding a laser gun staring at a man in a tribal mask... ;)

Alan thanks for getting back to me. I will be putting an order in for some roasting tubes.

Late one night, burning some essential oils... I realized even after I went to bed. I don't like leaving the HI out in the open, too many cats. So I got up to turn it off and put it away. I grabbed it, not thinking of the cup and poured hot essential oil all down the side of my hand and in parts I'm not even sure of, in the HI. Burned the Hell out of me, stunk up the HI and woke up the entire house and half the neighborhood.

Wiped up as much as I could, I knew it had missed pouring into to core, but hit everything else.

Hand healed, smell eventually went away. Used a lot of Q-Tips, though.

BDV - Thanks for posting the video of the pinch and grind method. A very tasty way to roast. I usually put about 4 or 5 smaller flower pinches into the roasting tube but it is good to see that one big nugget works too.

Your Highness - Glad to hear that the scent in mostly gone. That is the nice thing about the design of the HI. You can access almost every surface of the core for cleaning. Have fun discovering new ways to roast with your HI. So many tube options and techniques.

Alan (& friends), what is the current status on the HI's, if I may ask? I first placed my order Feb. 2012, & since it's coming up on a year I thought I'd check the thread. Any others that ordered near the time I did, please chime in if you have some info. I have noticed other forum members 'add' an HI to their vape line-up .. becoming jedHIs, wielding The Force like a boss, etc. Now I see that some have gotten them through the classifieds (cheaters:disgust: ). The new jedHIs have gotten me anxious as well as jealous. :cry: :shrug: :\

My move is taking way longer than I had hoped which is delaying HI production. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people still waiting. Your unit will be one of the first when I start production again. Only those lucky enough to be looking at the classified adds at the right time have gotten one ahead of you.
Some day soon.

The bigger nuglets work well. I was one off my count (I was petty medicated already)... but ended up getting flavor and consistent vapor for 7 pulls. That's remarkable. Had I ground up that same nuglet, put it in the tube, its dust in 3 hits. Only way, I've been using itlately.

Soooo I am happy to report that my HI now smells brand new! However, in my quest to get rid of the oil smell I kept picking it up and smelling it to see how it was going and I ended up burning my nose with a perfectly red HI circle from the heater port. Yeah I look funny as hell right now at work and people keep staring at my nose and wondering....what the hell is that circle?

Yeah its my custom HI tattoo!! Smack dead on my nose and I am damn proud of it!!!
