This thread gets a lot more love that the Toasty Top thread, so I think I'll be hanging out here more, after all, the Toasty Top has the same core as the Heat Island these days. I use mine all day and everyday. I prefer the small SS bowl, and I push it at around 9v for a long milky draw through a dry bubbler.

Hey guys, I humbly come here to extend my apologies to my dad, Alan and the JedHi's [dad hope you see this]. First, I always thought this place (FC) was some kind of joke! It had to be right? Especially if my dad spent so much time here. I knew about and regularly use log vapes so I couldn't understand why my dad was in love with what he calls his Hipod. He never even brings it out of his room. We all buy vapes and share with each other but never his Hipod. I used to clown him when he mentioned the JedHi's and his Hipod because I thought it was something he made up LoL, he's quirky like that. Also to be honest, I originally joined this forum just to troll him because my mother banished him
. I thought I could catch him sneaking around in here. It wasn't until after joining that I saw how serious FC was, definitely not a joke. I couldn't believe my father was keeping this place to himself all this time! It all makes since now how he was able to tell me about Vaporizers that I never even heard of before. I now know that what I thought was an ugly worm holed log vape is made from the beautiful Banksia seed pod. Stunning! Anyhow, I too, am now, a JedHi. I recently made a great trade for a Maple Burl Hi and I love it. I now see why my dad loves his so much, even more so because of the special wood. He says he has a new HI being worked on right now and he may just let the Hipod make it to the livingroom because the new HI is definitely off limits...... we'll see! Anyway all the best to you guys and gals.

Looks sweet but are you sure that's safe for use in the HI? I know generally with any type of log vape we have to stay away from anything stabilized because the chemicals in there can get toxic when heated. I would imagine it would be the same for the HI.

Am I a Jedhi? I am not good at translation. Anyway, re TT- it is just too large to comfortably fit in my hands. So Alan made me a HI that's perfect for small hands and is vase shaped. I'm almost ready to ask for an iheat.

@sixstringsmash I understand the concern, though the dangers come from high temperatures. I've seen mouth pieces for tobacco pipes made from stabilized wood. It is also not so uncommon to see the outside of a pipe made with spalted wood. Though with that being said I believe spalted wood gets unsafe once it gets to a point where it would char/smoke @ 140 Celsius. I don't believe the wood itself gets that hot with the SS or glass cover with the space from the element.

I hear ya just want to make sure you're being safe. I've heard from multiple people on this site who have a lot of experience in woodworking claim that using stabwood in logs can be dangerous and toxic. I only know this because I just recently commissioned a second woodscents from @Ed's TnT, and I asked him about the possibilty of using stab wood as the material. He gave me a big old no no on that and told me anything stabilized wouldn't be safe for use in a WS. @Snappo over here also gave us a warning about using stabwood in log vapes a while back. He's not active much on here anymore but he supplied a good amount of people on this site with wood for their logs. I personally know nothing about the dangers of using Stabwood in a log, but I generally trust the advice of those two guys as they have a whole lot of experience in the field. Just want to make sure you're being safe and not doing anything that can possibly harm your body!

I appreciate you mentioning me bro and having enough faith in my advise. I know that @Snappo knew a guy that was doing something to stabilize wood that no one else had even thought of nor had the money to do so. I wanna say it was a recipe like no other and an impregnation process in a vacuum that most people cant afford to do. The wood itself was capable of handling temps of 800 degrees or more. I have only seen this wood in 3 pieces in all my time doing this. I would say that using stab wood in any other process would be a no no as you said above bro. I know one thing, I aint going to make ya one nor will I ever use one made of just any old cactus juice resin.

Know Alan has emphasized the importance of air flow and keeping the screen clean.
After being negligent about that, I gave my basket screen a good isopropyl soak and
scrub. Makes all the difference in the world! Much easier draw and much better effects.

Still use my toasty top with the heat island core daily. I love spinning it while it sits on top of my glass.
I am in love with the tiny stainless steel bowl. Actually, I've been using the nong adapter from underdog with my "Alan" for a long time now. Both of my devices from @Alan are named Alan. Appropriately, the small one is Alan jr, who also needs outside help from a power source.
It's really hard to beat the profile of the tiny log bowl, and my heat-top/toasty-island is left on all day and every day. I don't have a recent photo, but the maple (I'm poor, all my wooden Vapes are Maple so far) of the body has taken a nice golden color, it is beautiful. And the body gets a pleasant warm...
Oh! I had been wanting a wooden bowl for a long time, and I'm so loving the tiny stem Alan made me for my iheat, especially that it can be used with all of my main Vapes. I requested the stem have a 14mm taper on the mouth end. I insert a screen in the 14mm end, load the green in there, drop it into my 18mm glass, and there's my wooden bowl for my top.
The stem also works with my vapcap, mistvape bare essence, and of course the iheat. Works real nice with the essence. I do miss my little glass insert, though.
One day maybe I'll own a traditional body HI.

I now have an original AromaZap, re-worked by @Alan into a HI, and it still kicks ass.
It is my Saturday morning vape.....
and it has various applications throughout the week.
I love @Alan 's work, and his attitude.
He is a Master among Multi-Talwented Eccentric and Prolific Inventors, whose mind never stops.
( I was tempted to say "never stops spinning".... @Alan , besides creating the Toasty Top..... is a Master Top Spinner.

Update: My stab wood vaporizer is on it's way home from @Alan. He had fitted a SS foil on the inside of the wood so it doesnt get too hot. It turned out very nice.
My next plan is to find someone that can make me custom glass roasting tubes. So if someone knows anyone on the forum I'd really appreciate that.
I'd also like to get a base made for my HI that I could use it with a whip without tipping it over. I'd also prefer if the base had holes to hold my stir tool(s) and my roasting tubes.

It has been too long since I have posted. So many different projects and not enough time.

Was asked by @204Markie about installing a glass heater cover into a pre-turned, stabilized wood body he provided to me w/ ties to his family. It is a beautiful piece of spalted maple wood. Traditionally, stabilized wood has never been suitable for use in log vaporizers since the hot metal in contact with the wood would produce a hot plastic smell. The intake air for most log vaporizers is from the hole in the top of the wood, which means that the hot plastic smell would be in the air path.
In this case, I am using natural cork rings to hold a glass heater cover so there is no hot metal to touch the stabilized wood and make it hot. The air intake for the glass heater cover is from the bottom of the unit where the wood is cool. There is stainless steel foil lining the wood around the glass heater cover, which keeps the wood body from getting hot since the glass heater covers allow more radiant heat to escape than the ss heater covers. The ss foil reflects much of the radiant heat back to the heater. Never thought that I would be able to make a HI from a stabilized wood body, but it is possible. Here are some photos of the unit. There are some really cool looking blue stones set into the bark side. The bottom views show the connection to the power socket and the air intake hole in the bottom cork ring.
@204Markie - I had been looking for someone to make custom glass HI roasting tubes for years with no success and finally ended up just making them myself. If you make a custom stand for it, be sure to allow for intake air to the bottom. I enjoy using my HI with a whip now and then. Although with winter coming, I will probably be handling it more with my hands to keep them warm.
The unit starts producing vapor in about 2 minutes after plugging it in to 12 volts, so it doesn’t need to be left plugged in. It would be better to only have it plugged in when using, but it won’t hurt if you do leave it on for a long time.
@Vitolo - Thanks so much for the love and kind words. Glad you are enjoying your original AromaZap w/ HI heater cover. Have been making a lot more vaporizers than spinning tops lately. There seems to be more of a demand for them. Still enjoy spinning tops / yo-yos now and then. I do really have a passion for inventing / creating. Has been great working with @Bravesst to create the Lil’ Bud and Elite. Always another tube configuration to be created.

It will also work with 18mm roasting tubes used in the iHeat, Lil’ Bud, milaana, and splinter, etc. It uses a larger diameter resistor which looks to be more robust and is a bit more expensive. Having good luck with my prototype so far. May have to make more of them.

The wider 7/16" OD heater cover should then also fit nearly perfectly for use with Arizer Solo/Air Glass stems and GonGs with their build in glass screens. Those come with an ~11,5mm ID and should snuggly slip over the new ss HC then
I use an 11mm OD bushing to facilitate a fit there for the Arizer glass on my own heater covers now and 7/16" being just a few fractions of a millimeter wider than 11mm, should even seal more snuggly. Nice
Also interested to hear more on the new resistor there.
