I got some wine corks with no labels that are all very consistent in size. Some even look brand new. It looks like they used a needle to pierce the corks rather than a screw. They work very well.
I also devised a 5/16" SS version of the retained chamber concept. There are two 5/16" x 1/2" long SS tubes that are each set half way into a 1/2" thick cork tube. Each cork tube contains a 5/16" SS screen that gets sandwiched between the 5/16" SS tubes. This makes it impossible for the screens to be dislodged but provides an unrestricted 1/4" ID at the screen. The same concept as my slide-in tip SS tubes but much easier to replace. The silicone tube on the end allows it to fit into 14mm and the cork is tapered for 18mm. It can also be used for direct draw all from the same configuration. It will work in any vaporizer that allows a 5/16" SS roasting tip. No worries about spilling the material or scorching it. Just great flavor and air flow.
Was at a party over the weekend and it seems like dabbing is way more popular than vaporizing. Got to see some really nice rigs. One had a large glass dome-less nail that seemed to work really well. There was talk about the 110v dabbing systems on the market and their designs. So I was thinking more about it today to see if I could get my HILSV to work as a electro-dabber. My first thought was something in titanium but then decided that glass would taste better and also cheaper. When I make the glass mouthpiece tube for a Turbo Tube, I cut the bottom from a 10mm test tube. The bottom looks like a little glass contact lens and usually gets thrown away. Since the 10mm glass tube and the 3/8" SS heater cover are roughly the same size, the contact lens will not fit down into the end of the SS heater cover. It just sets nicely into the end of the tube.
I placed a dab's worth of shatter oil into the glass lens and then placed it onto the end of my HILSV that was set in the stand on full power. Since I also have the glass heater cover installed, I can drop an 18mm glass roasting tube into place over the glass lens / ss heater cover. I have a silicone whip attached to the mouthpiece end of the 18mm glass roasting tube so I can use it like a hookah. The oil fully melts into a pool in the glass lens and begins to bubble. It soon begins to boil and I begin inhaling. Enough air comes through the SS heater cover to levitate the glass lens and suspend it in a stream of hot air. It sort of spins around as it floats with the vapor streaming up into the connecting tubes. The 1" ss screen must be in the 18mm glass tube to cause the air flow to be even enough for the levitation. That screen must also explain why the roast is so even in the 18mm glass roasting tube with herb. The taste from the glass lens is just incredible. The lens drops down onto the 3/8" ss tube between hits and the whip can be passed around to others like a hookah. I also tried it with some bubble hash and it worked equally as well. It just all melted together and started bubbling. It was a lot smoother than doing a dab from a extremely hot surface. The lens only gets as hot as it needs to volatilize the oil. The lighter oils are the first to go and are much tastier. More testing is required (or is that desired), but I will start saving the little glass lenses from now on.

Vapinghole - Thanks my man. Glad you are enjoying the versatility of the HI. You will like the new design even more.

Madcap79 - Thanks for posting the video. Looking good.

MileHighLife - Sorry about the burl. Have never made a HI from stabilized wood. It may emit a hot plastic smell from contact with the base. Always better to stay with pure wood. The birdseye maples blanks may be large enough for a HI.

slowandsteady - Thanks for posting the photo. I know what you mean about the tough decision between the glass and ss heater covers. It is almost like you need to have one of each for which ever mood you feel. You may tend to favor the ss heater cover once you get a VVPS as it gives it a wider heat range. You can drop the heat down for some very tasty hits. The wine cork tube is also a nice way to regulate the roast when you don't have a VVPS.

Jeppy - You need to hold on to the HI while using it with an all glass roasting tube so that the SS heater cover doesn't touch the material. That is sort of where the whole jedHI thing started. You need to use the force to get a good roast and not combust. That is what I love about the new wine core roasting tube. There is no learning curve. Just drop it into the HI and start inhaling.
