The HI

Well, after much testing on both attachments with many different strains to use, the barbell is my favourite. The silicone bowl allows for you to just milk the weed so much easier. I find the taste only slightly worse; the thickness of the hit more than makes up for it.

I'm just pissed I'm having to use a broken turbo tube. It works fine but I will need another soon...

Looks like I'll soon be joining the club!

Got a spalted & quilted silver leaf maple HIsaber coming my way.
I've been thinking 'fancy' maple too. I've stalled on the core decision and still have to decide upon tubes. What core did you get: ss, glass, or hybrid? - p.s. I'm leaning ss.

Have been waiting to use some redwood burl that I got a while back. I had to share some photos. Glad I waited for the new design.
Also have a bunch of counter top material samples that were going to be thrown away. They work good for making yo-yos, but they also work great for the HI bottom caps since it is isolated from the heat and remain at room temperature. They come in all sorts of colors and patterns.

Hey Alan, I know we already discussed through email the type of wood that I want for my HI. I was thinking about one of your staron bottom caps. One of these looks like it would ad some real character and offset the color nicely on the wood that I chose. Something like the one in this pic, maybe a little lighter. What do you say?

@JJ420 - That is one of my first HI's. It may still have the two part core. It is eligible for a free replacement core if that is the case. Did you get the right angle adapter for the bottom?

@Hypno vaper - The Staron bottom cap is definitely a good way to go. I have many different colors from which to choose.

@HoneyAir - You are welcome.

@Dafni - The new all stainless steel cores have a dimple to stop the 5/16" roasting tube and also to retain the screen. I have also made a couple of cores with an outside tube stop so that it will only insert a certain distance into an outside style roasting tube.

I had tried making an all aluminum HI (HILite) from the same plate used to make the GTV, but the ss core would loose too much heat. I recently modified it with a HIbrid glass core. It works so much better now.

The entire vaporizer weighs just 35 grams. The aluminum holding the glass tube gets to around 130F, but the rest of the aluminum body is always at room temperature.

@Alan what modifications did you do to the glass core and how is it better? Is it more on par now with the clouds produced by the SS cores?

EDIT: Ah, read the sentence wrong. My bad.

I am assuming (and hope) so. The right angle adapter was present in the photos. Funny because that thought has crossed my mind recently!

Alan, thank you, that was what I wanted to hear. Definitely digging that outside tube stopper ring, looks like something I want on my HI.
The inside dimple sounds nice too, for as long as it does not restrict airflow I'm all for it.

CentiZen, that HI looks amazing. I'm not too fond of the plug and socket, but that wood was an excellent choice.

The HI is a way different vape than the Cloud. I love low-temp vaping, and the HI is my favorite low-temp vape. It's so versatile. I can get heavy milk if I want, but I often opt for light sessions with my HI.

@Alan: The HILite is Sick!!!! Even smaller than the GTV!?!?!? Keep em' coming. I'll have one of everything LoL.

@JJ420: That's a nice piece. It's funny how far Alan has came with his design and the OG HI's are still beautiful.

@CentiZen: Yours is a beauty also, and great pics from both of you guys. I can't wait until my name is called so you guys can see what me Alan cooked up. I did a lot of research on the woods to choose from and I think I came up with something pretty original thus far. Now that I have my wood picked out, I'm really going nuts with anticipation. I think the gang will really like it.....I hope.

Well I had received my Heat Island in the mail earlier this week and it was love at first sight. Set VVPS on the nightstand to 12.0 volts, unplugged my Bubinga Dog and plugged in the HIsaber. Let it warm up for about a half hour and got down to business!

Vaporizer: early model Heat Island
Attachment: Underdog and Ed's TnT wooden stems
Power Supply: VVPS
Goodies: TH Seeds MK-Ultra (G13 X OG Kush)

Blew out a huge cloud on my first try. I could tell it was pretty much dialed in on the first attempt. I've since found 11.8 volts to be the vape's sweet spot. The one major advantage the Heat Island has over all my other vaporizers is that it's indeed a low temperature vape. I mean, 11.8? Whaa?? In comparison my Bubinga & Rosewood Dogs run 12.2 and 12.6 respectively. In my opinion, the temperature range is where we can really explore particular strains.
Be forewarned, this little unit gets you crazy high. Every night for the last couple of days it's been a TKO for me. It's quickly become one of my favorite vapes thus far.:)

JJ420, i think you're looking at voltage the wrong way. If a lower voltage gets you the same temperature as a higher voltage in the UDs, it means that the HI runs hotter than the UDs, not the other way around.

Congrats on the HI. It's my daily driver since i got it, no need for the Solo, DBV, or WW after that. ;)
