I hope that there aren't many people considering cancelling, doesn't bode well..

When waiting in a long line and people ahead start bailing and my turn comes up quicker, is kind of the definition of boding well. I hope nobody goes and sees SW:EP7 for the same reason.

Edit: is this the part where we compare how crappy our first personal computers are? If so, let's just skip to the end where @lwien shares his stories of punch card computing... :myday:

The issue with that is, if no one goes to see Episode 7 but you, there won't be an Episode 8...

I thought there was going to be a GH update 1st thing this morning. Am I a day early?

mod note: Yes, and in the wrong thread, but I fixed that for you

It's real.
So I emailed Trevor on the actual supply of heaters and other electronics and here's what I got:

"Thanks for contacting me. The heaters are coming in and the batch size is increasing. This is a bottleneck right now. The electronics come in larger batches but there is an extensive supply chain involved in the components used on the PCBs. A hick-up here holds production up until that part comes in. We are just starting this while mass production thing and we want to get it right so it takes careful planning to scale up. We will get the process moving faster and faster. The heaters first came in 6 per batch and we are already up to batches of about 300. The first batches of electronics were in 50 and we are now ramping up to a batch size of 3000."

Sounds like heater supply will constantly increase as production speeds up?

That sounds promising. If it's ramped up that much over a month or so it doesn't seem like it should take much longer to get things rolling pretty well. At least to me, but I have no experience with manufacturing or anything of that nature. This may be the most clear information I've seen them give out since I started following this whole endeavor.

Now this is a nice teaser for what we can expect in today's update! Maybe today we'll see a grasshopper IN one of those boxes

Sounds good, but without knowing how often they are receiving these larger batches, it doesn't really tell us much. Would also be interesting to know how long it takes them to assemble one GH once all the parts are sitting there.
Well, I could be wrong, but the heaters at least I believe they have only been getting for something like a month, and if that's true, then it gives a pretty good indication. Going from 6 heaters a batch to 300 a batch in a month's time is a significant improvement, though who knows how many "batches" they've actually gotten. It may have been just two, one with 6 and one with 300, but it still trends toward progress.

And we don't know for sure if they had to change anything about the heaters' design to get that increase in production.

Except that we've been told over and over again in emails that none of the stats of the heaters have been changed. Like people have said that COULD be a carefully worded evasion, but I feel like they'd have to realize that there would be a ton of backlash if people found out they'd changed the design and not told anyone, so much so it might ruin them. Edit: That said, I'm not even entirely against a re-design, if it doesn't impact the function in a severe way as long as they were completely up front about the change being made.

Very very doubtful. There has been no news or information to indicate the heater design has changed. As mentioned, when it comes to 3D printing, practice is everything. As the printers get more experience with that specific design and tweak the print settings accordingly, they can print in larger volumes without concern over print quality.

I actually have some technical questions regarding the heater's airpath, going to reach out to Trevor to see what he has to say about it.

I sent an email to Trevor myself a short while ago just asking for confirmation that NOTHING about the heater has changed, wattage, design, etc. Hopefully I'll hear something before long.

Again with the very same suspicious omission...

No mention of the BOXES!

Aight let me take a stab at this using my proprietary grasshopper translator:

"Theelectronics come in larger batches but there is an extensive supply chain involved in the components used on the PCBs. A hick-up here holds production up until that part comes in. We are just starting this while mass production thing and we want to get it right so it takes careful planning toscale up."

So we know they have the bodies, they told us they have a bunch of batteries, and they now have at least 306 heaters which brings us to electronics. Let's analyze the comments - they are highliting the complexities in the supply chain (that means they don't have any) and they are talking about "getting it right" (that means revisions and more delays).

Is it just me or is it the thrust of just about every GH update and/or communication from Trevor that a bunch of reasons are stated beforehand to justify any future delays?
