The Grasshopper

PM me @hiphopvaporman in May after the late Preorders ship - I might be able to design a 3D printed steel clip to cover the gap (assuming it's easy to remove the clip so I can take measurements with my GH)

Awesome! I'll keep you posted :)

I asked Trevor about this a few weeks back...his response

"We don't have any plan to create a clip-less Grasshopper. You could grind yours off, but I can't say how it will look. Without a clip it will roll off most surfaces which we think is a pretty big disadvantage.

Best,

Trevor"

Haha, looks like every question has been asked and answered!

Can I ask why you might want to remove it and the advantages of doing so? I dont find it obtrusive or any hinderence, or adding any significant weight, just something to use if the need arises. Most pens have clips on them and it helps keep the stealthy look of the device in my opinion.

Just a thought I had. I think I'm nitpickingg at this point in anticipation.

They should've made the clip removeable for stirring/packing/emptying purposes.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was hoping it had a strong magnet or another sort of locking mechanism so It was a strong clip, but could be removed to help pack/remove herb from the chamber.

If someone could make a strong magnetic aftermarket clip I think that would actually work well. It would allow for some bending without wearing out the clip over time.

Edit: Grasshopper 2.0???

I have an idea for a removable clip but I'm terrible at explaining so I'll do my best. Plus I'm pretty well medicated right now.

Basically, it's a redesign of the back end too. The back end would have to have a click in it (like a crown on a watch). When you pull back on it, it unlocks room for you to remove the pen clip (it would have a hook or something holding it in place). Then you could use the clip to help pack, stir, unclog, or just take it off.

The back would still be screwable on and off.

Another idea for grasshopper 2.0? Or is this possible to make aftermarket?

But even if your solution may provide a better lock, It doesn't solve the possibility of losing it :p

A better lock sounds like a good compromise, for the possiblity of losing it, if using the clip as a tool significantly improves the user experience. Also, nothing totally solves the possibility of losing the entire pen itself if you aren't careful. :p I cringe at the thought of all the pens I've lost in my lifetime :disgust: (a little exagerrated) ...I've definitely lost more entire pens than pen clips or caps...But I anticipate this will be different :)

On second thought, I can see how a strong clip would be more important/give better peace of mind for people who plan to use the clip to fasten it to the edge of their jeans or shirt. You don't want the possibility of the clip slipping off..... I don't see myself doing that personally - I would probably just keep it in a case and put it away everytime. In that scenario a clip that functions as a removable tool is more attractive since there is less risk of losing it.

How about some sort of a little keychain scoop?

Something small enough to get into the chamber to break up stuck herb, but with enough of a scoop to assist in loading herb into the chamber. Perhaps slightly smaller than the scoop end of a Slurpee straw?

A keychain dabber would work it you just needed a tool to help remove herb from the chamber.

I had considered purchasing that originally, along with a couple other options I found, but they are all too bulky IMO.

I envision a tool around the same length as a common house key. It would have a keyring hole on one side. The other side would resemble an ice scoop, but just a tad smaller than the inside opening of the herb chamber.
It would allow for easy loading and aid in unloading as well.

Sounds like @Ratchett may be envisioning something similar.

I use a set of these for most loading purposes, one of these may be quite easy to cut down and a hole re-drilled to fit a keychain. Or just use the smallest one as is ;)

Indeed, I am currently waiting on shipment for an early scoop prototype of mine. This is being printed in 3D printed steel right now:

This one has a millstone grinding pattern/tamping tool on the other side for my E-Nano, but I can easily chop that off and toss a keyring hole somewhere on the handle.

Keep an eye on my official FC thread for more information once I have a prototype in my hands (should be sometime this week)

So we're expecting a GH update April 1? Woot! (That'd be funny if they trolled everyone by handing out tracking numbers tomorrow )

One like this metal Skilletoolz Scoopdoggmini but made for the grasshopper and a shorter stem would be awesome...I like the $10 and under (the measuring spoons) price tag.

@Ratchett Another option is to make metal prefill mini-capsules that fit the Grasshopper perfectly - with a screw on cap on both ends to make it easier to empty out and clean. Sorry if this was already mentioned.

Probably be in the Grasshopper 2.0 I bet, but apparently this vape doesn't need much stirring if any according to Buzz no?

My 1st time joining in to the conversation (hope I do this right). For the scooping tool you're looking for, search ebay for "salt spoon". It works great. No need to create something new.

Not to be gross, but an "ear wax" spoon may also work well, especially for kief. Here's one that might work well in the dark too:

I like Ratchett's tool also specifically because it has a narrow nose to the spoon like the Turkish pipe tool I use, which makes it easier to fill a narrow opening like the GH bowl.

And I have some questions for Buzz while he's testing the GH:

Are you using the SS or TI?
How does the flavor compare to the FF? 1st pull and after?
How does the oven size compare to the FF?
How is maintenance?

Thx!!!

I could be wrong, but I think though that the average salt spoon is wider than the GH herb chamber opening. Also the shape of the edge of the average salt or teaspoon isn't the most ergonomic...which is why there is talk of creating a custom/better/more ergonomic filling tool.
