Hey all,

It's been brought up before but I can't find a complete answer; but how does the draw resistance on the FF compare to other portables? I've read that you're supposed to hit it "until you feel resistance", but at what resistance is that?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a FF. It's got everything I'm looking for, plus y'all have rated it very well. I just don't want to feel like I have to suck it off to get any vapor. The resistive draw of my Pax was the reason I sold it. I've got no problem "sipping" or taking long draws, like I do with my Q, I just despise a lot of draw resistance.

I find there's very little draw resistance--hard or soft as I desire. Changing draw speed impacts the amount of herb cooking (i.e., draw fast for less cooking, draw slow for more).

A little expectations-management is probably in order here. "7 bowls" is a subjective and non-quantifiable metric...everyone puts different amounts in the bowl and to some users three hits is a "bowl" whereas for me, I cram like .15 grams in the bowl and get upwards of 30 hits in one full load. So no, I don't get 7 bowls per charge on the new 770s. However, I get about 2x or more the usage out of the new batteries vs. the bad batch from last autumn. I used to get at most 15 hits from a fresh full charge of the 750 batteries...the new ones consistently deliver 25-30 long, nearly-30-second hits. If, like most users, your hits are varied length, you may find yourself getting closer to an average of 40 hits per full charge. (If you're also someone who uses just enough herb to get 4 hits per bowl, there's your "7 bowls per charge" right there.)

I posted my new/old battery comps here, a few pages back: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-firefly-vaporizer.11365/page-199#post-744681

I have a feeling the pads raise the heat enough in the bowl to allow the FF to vape concentrates successfully. Because otherwise, you'd think the FF was a bit on the low-temp side for this task. (I'm not a concentrate guy but I'm glad to hear they are working!)

I'm trying not to think about it. :p

Hi there!

I just got one of these and the battery depletes really quick. I just take short, max 6 second puffs now and again during an evening and have to recharge daily. I don't preheat the bowl first either, but still only get max 10-15 of those short hits. I seem to have a newer 770 battery but get nowhere near the battery life you seem to be getting :-( Bad battery?

The charging time is about 40 mins...

That sounds not quite right to me. If you definitely have a 770 rather than a 750, you should be getting twice that many hits per charge. Confirm you have a 770, give it another full charge, and see how many hits you get. If you are still getting only 10-15 hits before you get a red light, give FF a call and ask for a replacement...because that battery sounds defective, all things being equal. Good luck!

Thx for your reply :-) Yeah definitely a 770, double-checked. Has the grey contact enclosure and all. I'll just get another battery when stock is back in. Otherwise it's a nice piece of kit though. Shame they went with chromed plastic buttons as opposed to metal ones. Kinda detracts from the feel of it. I'd have been fine with just black plastic buttons as opposed to the fake-metal ones. This device feels very familiar after having used the MFLB over the past year.

Bapao76,
My wishlist for FF2:

- Slightly bigger bowl.
- Smaller form factor.
- A better system for the top covering the bowl to prevent it from getting as dirty, and at the same time prevent half filled ovens from letting materials go up the chamber by drawing air.
- Fix coil alignment deviations between FFs and make it more consistent.
- Keep design simple like FF1, the less bells and whisles the less likely it is to fail or go defective.
- Some better top cover lid design so its easier for people like me (without nails) to open up the cover lol.

As for the battery im more than satisfied. I initially got the 770 bat and never ever depleated my battery. I would be surprised I would take more than 1/3rd of a charge per use.

Always make sure there are no airleaks around the top cover part/mouth piece as ive had a FF with a bad top cover and air was leaking through the mouthpiece. (put thumb or finger on the top hole then blow or pull air from the mouthpiece, should be obvious i guess.

There is still very little resistance here and the FF works like a charm now, so id say the resistance is probably lower than most other vapors. It also slightly alters depending on how densely you pack the bowl from my experience.

Having that said, even without the huge resistance, i usually draw air relatively slow and steady, and usually draw harder on my 5th or 6th hit at the end of my session.

So all in all i would not worry, in fact i believe when you draw too hard the vapour gets less efficient, even if it is possible.

Greetings Firefly Nation, My Firefly has seen heavy daily usage for almost one year. I am excited to provide a report on the new concentrate pads. Curiously, even though the pads are smaller than a nickel, it costs a dollar more to mail them than their actual value. Moving on, . . . ,
I live in the enlightened state of Washington, where I can buy premium product. I bought some "Blue Dream" wax: 87.5 %THC, CBD 1.3 %. After gently seating the pad into the bowl, I put a ball-o-wax about the size of a single peppercorn onto the mesh, probably .075 gram, or less. I pre-heated for 4 seconds, then took a LSD (long, s-l-o-w draw), producing a bit of vapor. On subsequent draws, I got impressive vapor cloud formation.
After 9 LSD's, I can safely say, "Shit the bed, Ted". I am in a blissful state of PFT: pretty fucking toasted.

I visit this thread from time to time and have always been interested in the Firefly. I'm very impressed with the quick heat up time, great taste, lees harsh vapor than most and easy clean up of this unit. Definatly not as stealth as say Pax 2 or the Grasshopper(which should be hitting the market soon hahaha), but it certainly isn't overly bulky and I must add the Firefly looks great. That said, I have a couple of questions...

In general how much material does the bowl hold?
There's been talk of a Firefly 2.. Does anyone know when it will hit the market?
Does anyone know about the proposed changes to the new model?
How would you compare ease of cleaning and maintenance compared to other vapes?

Other than a little shorter battery life than some portables out there, are there any other cons of the Firefly I should be aware of?

@Chill Dude My Firefly will be delivered later today, so I can't talk to most of your questions.

There is no news on a FF2 as of now. The firefly facebook page posed a picture of a FF a few weeks back with the caption "time for change?", but that's all we have right now to my knowledge. I wouldn't count on a new model for a while. Personally, I'd expect a new model to just differ in what it looks like (maybe smaller size) and battery life. The FF is already pretty damn unique, and is said to work wonderful.

It's also supposed to be very very easy to clean. I'll wait to comment more until I get mine :brow:

I haven't heard anything about a firefly 2.

The bowl holds about a .15 and I'd say maintenance is on the easier side since the pathway is all visible. I've had the best success just using alcohol wipes. Takes under a minute to clean unless you let it get really gross.

If you really pack it densely, you can fit about .15-.20 grams in the bowl.

About a month ago, one of the two CEO's mentioned something to the effect of them being "well on the way" to a Firefly 2. He wouldn't share any hints or details about timing, or new features. I sent him an email about a week ago to see if he had any updates, or if the recent hints on their FB page were an oblique reference to the FF2. So far, radio silence. If I hear anything I will share it here immediately!

How would you compare ease of cleaning and maintenance compared to other vapes?

I'd say it's about average. Good news is that the entire vapor path is exposed, so pretty much anywhere that needs to be cleaned can be easily accessed. The bad news is that the lid and port window do get messy easily, and I find I have to give it a deep ISO cleaning every three or four bowls. But my ISO routine is down to about six minutes, so it's no big deal. It just needs to be cleaned frequently, if you use it a lot.

Other than a little shorter battery life than some portables out there, are there any other cons of the Firefly I should be aware of?

Steep-ish learning curve...some history of reliability issues (not a big deal given the stellar service, and the overall failure rate is low...but some of us have been nailed disproportionately.) That's about it. Mostly pros, a few minor cons...nothing that should deter you.

Thank man, it seems you're quite active on this thread and know the device fairly well... I wish we knew more about the timing of the FF 2 release. Now, do you recommend a loose say .12g load or a dense .2g load for best results and do you need to stir or does the AVB come out uniform without a stir? Also, is that port window made of glass? I imagine that's the part that fogs up and requires cleaning more than the other areas of the device...

Yeah my wife wonders why I spend so much time here!

FF2 timing is a mystery. I would guess it's a fall or xmas-timed release...but that is pure speculation on my part.

I personally pack the FF very densely...I don't get great results from a loose, smaller load...though plenty of people here have had great results with less weed and a looser pack. Yes, you will need to stir every few hits...typical convection action ensures uneven cooking unless you stir (or shake if you use a looser pack). The need to stir can be considered one of the drawbacks, but it doesn't bother me.

The port window is glass. Yes, that port assembly gets messy...you wanna be careful cleaning it to avoid dislodging the o-ring gasket under the assembly.

In case anyone is wondering the 770 battery is, according to a FF rep, going to be available before the end of the month. I forget which but he said the 25th or 28th.
Just spoke with vaporworld, they said they'd have them in stock in the next 2 weeks.

I got to try my Firefly with concentrate pads finally. The technique is abit different, so my first pack I didn't get the best results, but the second one was really really nice. It gives you flavorful large/cool hits, the only problem is that it crushes the battery, it seems to kill it around 50% faster than dry herb. Basically you put the pad into the bowl, pack it down tight, and then pre-heat for 15seconds (while preheating you puff it like a cigar which was new to me) After the preheat the first draw will get some vapor, but it will be lower temp, and lighter vapor. Then the next few draws will be really good, dense, and flavorful.

Overall I would definitely not go buy a firefly for concentrates, but if you have the Firefly, and you also have access to concentrates definitely pick up the pads (they are like $12 for 3, and they are cleanable) they are a lot of fun, and taste great.

I admit I was surprised to hear they were coming out with the pads, partly because the FF prides itself on being a low-mid temp vape, and also because I didn't get the impression it was a passion of the CEOs. To their credit they listened to their users who wanted the pads...I'm pleasantly surprised to hear they work so well given the FF temp range. As I mentioned earlier I suspect the presence of the metal pads is hiking the temp in the bowl and making it possible to vape concentrates effectively. I'm not a concentrate guy or I would give it a whirl myself.

Thanks for the review. Good to know the Firefly is versatile in this way.

I'm curious to know how the concentrate pad works with dry herb. My thinking is it would enable the use of less material by adequately filling the bowl and providing extra heat. I find the Firefly produces the most vapor with a full bowl. Although the bowl isn't very large, it would be nice to use smaller amounts and still produce big hits.

If you feel like experimenting, please let us know.

God I just love my FF so fucking much. I'm still in awe of it. The speed, the flavor, the design - fucking thing was just made for me.

I've gone back to using it as my away-from-home portable and the FF has just been rockin' it. It's getting a bit banged up from where it's had to be, but still looking sharp.

My original FF here is on 15 months and counting (If only we could all say that, eh @mitchgo61 ? :D) Tough not to be a fanboy when a vape is always pleasing you, you know?

I could go a whole day away with one battery before (one of the good ones), but with the new batts, I'm hitting it before work and after work and still haven't seen the red flashing light. But I'm a serious lightweight.

Just finished cleaning mine up - and damn, it's a sexy beast. Can't seem to take my hands off it.

I have no goddamn idea why the FF doesn't get more love on FC - 15 months after released and it's still way, way ahead of the current portable curve, IMO ...

Far from perfect still, of course. But ... I'm starting to think I'd rather wait for a FF 2 than any other portable coming down the pike. But I think the FF company really needs to give us a peek at what they're hoping to come out with - I need to know it's going to be worth it to wait! Has some serious competition, that's for sure.

Also, I'd like to make it clear (like you didn't already know) that I'm a regular ol' FF customer.

I'm feeling lucky lately...both of my FFs have been working great for four and five months respectively. I won't be surprised if something goes pear-shaped...but I'm not worried about it either. Yeah, that fanboy thing.

I guess the bloom is off the rose, a bit, after fifteen months...that plus all the newer vapes that are flashier and more complicated. But you know me, I like simple things, to go with my mind. The brilliance of the FF is how such a simple approach can yield so much variation. But that's the downside too, and obviously some users find it frustrating and inconsistent. That learning curve thing bonds some of us to the device pretty intimately...and for others, they just want to dial a temp and pull big clouds. The FF doesn't give up her secrets so easily. I don't think everyone is up for the journey...or finds it so enjoyable anyway.

This FF2 talk is really making me anxious. And there's only one cure for that...:p

But as you may (not) recall, the FF gave up her secrets to me in a heartbeat - from the first time I pressed my lips to her sweet-spot. I mean, all it took was one sardonic remark and a little teasing and she was gushing warm (yet cool :brow:) vapor into my eager, persistent mouth. My finger had to do some of the work, but it was worth it.

I don't usually like when they're so easy about it. That really turns me off. But I guess the FF had a way of making so easy ... seem so good.
