So I was wiping down the underside of the lid and the silicone seal popped up ever so slightly near the mouthpiece. I mean a very small edge but I couldn't get it back in to be flush nor would it create the necessary seal for drawing so I thought why not snip it off what else can I do. Bad idea. Totally messes with airflow very badly!

I remember a somewhat similar issue with the silicone seal coming unsealed coming up early on in the thread, but can't remember for whom...

Did you get some ISO under the seal, or did it just "wear out," so to speak?

What did you notice about the airflow exactly, after you snipped it? Just curious. :)

Spent a while reading through this discussion and grabbed a FF just yesterday. First time posting, just to say thanks for the intelligent discourse that helped me make my decision.

Been vaping for decades; starting with soldering iron & glass units to a Silver Surfer whip to the HerbalAire (which I've used the longest now) with Volcano bags. The FF is the most impressive vape I've ever used. I had been supplementing with a traditional one-hitter (what with the flames & the smoke & the tar) just because it was quicker & easier... but I haven't found myself reaching for the lighter since I began using the FF, which is very cool.

So I am finally able to now say FUCK COMBUSTION with gusto!

Now I must focus my newly enhanced mental powers on the law in my location. Hope it helps! :goon:

...returning to the CHAMBER OF UNDERSTANDING!

A question??? Are there options for the AC adaptor? Mine just went belly up and FF is out of stock. Just my luck, 3 batteries and no way to charge them. Need to start a fund for my second unit!

Looks like they are in-stock at Vapeworld for 15 bucks if that works for you....

I've been meaning to bring this up but kept forgetting...:)

In the discussions of techniques to get vapor from the Firefly, have we ever discussed the time taken between hits? I know that @Vitolo has said he never stirs, only shakes, and so do I. I never open the lid during a session, nor do I pause between hits long enough to let the unit cool down. To me the Firefly is not a great "hit it once and leave it" vaporizer. A full session is required each time, with a few hits at the beginning to "prime" the thermal mass, followed by strong vapor-producing hits until it is depleted. It seems like the few times I've been interrupted, I wasn't ever able to fully recover and extract the remainder of the bowl efficiently.

I'm wondering if those who have trouble getting good vapor from the Firefly are waiting too long between hits? Or they're removing the lid to stir the load, losing thermal mass etc...?

I think you nailed it. I no longer open it either during a session and it's much more efficient, IMO. :). All about thermal mass...and technique, of course.

Very good, yes excellent, Thank You!

Orderd. 2 days opposed to two weeks. It's worth the extra dollars to not have to wait.

Yes, nailed it you have. I never have to stir. A little shake as the herb shrinks works perfect for me.

I think this may be my issue. If I am using at my desk as I usual do I tend to take a hit and then put it down for a few minutes and then go for another hit. Today I used it in another room and only waiting at most 30 seconds between hits. I got a better stronger effect however my throat has dried out more than it has in the past. I also have been using a top screen as I feel my unit runs cool and I like the cleaner operation from using it.

Although I do have to admit that after my initial 5 or 6 hits I open the lid and press down on my herb for another 3 or 4 good ones. I fill bowl fully with very dry flowers tamp down a bit with my finger. After 5 or 6 draws It seems that the flowers are drawn to the view port glass creating a gap between the glass bowl and the flowers. After I press down there is a big difference in the next few draws. I don't think I lose much thermal mass with a quick herb adjustment. Just my extra two cents, may mean nothing to others.

Sorry for the delay...I have used very little ISO cleaning the seal. Can't remember if the micorfiber cloth or paint brush lifted it ever so slightly. In any case that little clip toward the mouthpiece expanded the airflow in a way very similar to when your lid isn't completely sealed. Way to much airflow! It's works but it causes the material to fly around the chamber like excited electrons. Didn't realize how fundamental a tight seal is to optimal experience with this unit.

Incidentally, I received a new lid today but no unit. I did mention to them that I have "spontaneously combusted" a number of times and they said they'd take a look at it, which is what I assume is the answer to where my device is.

That's pretty much what I do as well. I find it highly annoying that herb sticks to the glass. I also don't find mixing the herb as simple as I'd like. It's a very awkward process to me because of the shape and heft of this unit.

I sent the unit up for some testing, but if I get it back and that's just the way this unit is, I'm afraid that while I really, really like this unit it's just not cutting it with flavor. I just can't seem to understand how anyone can say that this produces better flavor than a Pax. To each his own. It may very well be just a matter of different preferences and palettes. :-(

I stir pretty obsessively, almost like a fetish. If I don't, the material on the top doesn't get exposed to the heat properly. Also it helps me iteratively grind as I vape...I start with basically unground material and end up with fine powder after 20 hits or so. Yes, I agree, you lose heat if you open the lid, just as with an oven. And yes, it takes another hit or so to build back up the heat mass and get big hits again. But it's no big deal, and it's worth it to feed my stirring fetish.

So FF, being the stellar company they are, sent me a free lid replacement and did a courtesy service check on my device to be sure it wasn't running too hot or too cold. If you recall, while I was cleaning my device the seal lifted near the mouthpiece and I couldn't get it back in, to lay flush or make a solid seal, so I clipped it with scissors rending the draw too "wide" and the device unusable. I think it grand that they stepped up and sent a free lid and did a service check. Let's face it--what I did could have easily being written off as not warranty covered but they did the decent and commendable thing and they should be recognized.

They really have been amazing. I'm sure you saw the story from a few pages back...some user dropped his FF and the glass bowl chipped. He called them and told them it was his fault, and I believe they replaced it for him anyway at their cost, minus the shipping. Clearly not covered by warranty...but they have correctly imputed the lifetime value of a good customer. I think this is a big part of why some of us are such big fans...so far, anyway, it feels like you get a lot more than just a great device when you give these guys your money.

Glad to hear another great FF service story!

Thats really cool. The 5 year warranty and stories of their stellar customer service is what really sold me on this device. I really like when companies stand behind their product. Same reason I got the Pax a while ago.

Yep that was me. I only had to pay for shipping to them. They repaired the unit for free AND picked up the cost of shipping it back to me, even though I admitted that I was an idiot and dropped the beauty on the concrete garage floor. Who could ask for more? Besides that, my FF technique has been steadily improving and I love the thing more than ever.

I just posted this in the pax thread the PAX charger is nearly identical to the FireFly.

PAX is 9v 1.3 A the FF is 9v 1.2A

Note to International Buyers - According to Firefly, all warranty claims must be shipped from within the US, and they will not accept any international parcels. If you are out of the US you must first ship your Firefly to a US address and have them forward it to Firefly for service. Then it will be shipped back to the US address. Currently there are no international distributors of the Firefly, so keep this in mind if you see a site outside of the US selling the Firefly.

Had my first chance to use the FF tonight. This unit really impressed me! The glass oven is just the right size. You can have a nice seen or conserve if you want. Really solid too. And it heats up really quick too that's awesome.

Its a sweet portable but I'd feel more comfortable hitting the pax walking down the street walking the dog.

I get more flavor from the pax but the ov n is much larger on the pax too. Also as I get more familiar with the FireFly I think I'll get more flavor as most people here seem to praise its ability to deliver good flavor

Going swimming tomorrow, I'll probly be bringing tur Pax, maybe not we'll see...
