My Firefly 2 is finally out for delivery! It feels like I've been waiting forever. Hopefully the tips in this thread will help me avoid the issues others have had.

How long did it take since you had ordered the unit?

I called yesterday and was told it should ship within 1-2 weeks.

is it from using the ff2 at too high of a setting?

Honestly, I have no idea. I do think I have combusted once or twice by accidentally hitting the concentrate setting on the app and not realizing it so that might be why? Unless everyones just looks like that after normal use.

I ordered blue June 8 and it shipped same day. I live in Canada so it's taken a few days to get here.

Edit: FedEx just dropped it off and left it at my door. I thought they would ask for taxes and brokerage. Guess I lucked out.

Wishful thinking! Give it a few weeks. You'll get roughly a 95$ Bill from fedex in the mail.

I tried charging my ff2 with my powerbank. It just flashes blue a few times and then the ff2 doesn't charge and my powerbank goes off indicating it's not charging. The ff2 charges great in the wall with my Samsung usb adapter but I want to be able to bring it on the go for portable charging. Does anyone know why my powerbank won't charge it? It's a 9000mah gigastone 2A

Another review, this time from Sneaky Pete and its a long one:
Another great review he really liked the taste. Agree with most of his points. So far my cons are the mouthpiece. The plastic or whatever its made of feels cheaper compared to rest of vaporizer. I read there looking at some glass makers for a optional glass one. Even metal would be better that the current one.

Second is the buttons guess kinda spoiled with the on draw demand of the ESV. Would of loved this feature on the firefly 2.

Interesting that Pete used a grinder and I think buzz does too. The picture of him shaded out taking massive rips was intriguing although I assume that was concentrate mode bc Wowzers that was crazy!

People that have done comparisons between four piece grinder and hand torn what are your thoughts. Early on grinding wasn't working for me but maybe I'll revisit this method. I imagine you'd get denser hits but would need to be careful with air flow problems.

So far I've just used my grinder and vapor production has been decent but not great. I'll try hand grinding tnite and report back.

I bought a card grinder and it works well, but I mostly use scissors, just like I used to when I combusted. I've gotten really good results, but I'll use the card if I have a lot of material to chop up.

Has anybody been able to get good results by packing so that the material stirs just by tapping the device against your palm? I know vapecritic did it that way in his long ass comparison video but was wondering if anyone else had good results without taking off the top to stir?

Hey college,

The main problem with not stirring is while you get the bud moving around, it's hard to tap so bottom bud moves to the top and top moves to bottom. Think of it like cooking a sauce you stir it around in a circle but also bring parts from bottom of pot to top so it doesn't burn. Same concept. If you're ok with wasting some bud then tapping is ok.

Are Petes clouds caused by lighting and slow motion or what? Those are like bong clouds!

It seems now true that solid green after use and waiting a while is a bug. It seemed such to
me. I am used to it now and when I see solid green I usually let the buttons go and then hit
the buttons again just to make sure it is really heated.

It seems to me that on demand would not work well with this vaporizer. I need to let it heat up
for 5 seconds or so before I draw. If drawing was the only way to activate it that would not work.
However I guess you could hybrid it either buttons or draw would activate it.

I get good results from tapping it if it is not too full but not great results. Stirring seems to be necessary. On the other hand concentrates work without manual intervention. This is quite a great concentrate vape.

Has anyone tried making a concentrate sandwich with some bud instead of using the liquid pad? Obviously would have to run it on high instead of concentrate mode but it seems like a good way to get some great clouds.

New suggestion. If still not getting clouds slow your draw down to where Firefly 2 is not making any noise. It feel like your barely inhaling and a hit should take 15-20 seconds to complete. it's a good starting ground for cloud chasers.

I think there may have been SOME lighting going on there but this is what confuses me a bit about this device because I hear people complain about it not producing clouds but I get clouds just like that from this thing. Even on Medium I get really good clouds for 2-3 hits. Then I get another 2-3 on Medium High and another 2-3 on High. I usually hit it 4 times on each setting and can tell when it tapers off and after every stir I get decent clouds like that.....if I dont start coughing before.

Hey shady you doing grinding, hand tearing, or grinder card? I get nice clouds and get pretty lit but yeah I am not getting cumulonimbus clouds like Pete from herbs....

vape4fun,
Been using this rig for awhile now and a couple things that I've noticed:
  • As everyone says, the battery meter is way off. I'll run the thing into the ground and right up until the end it says full battery on both the device and the app.
  • What is the deal with the blue light? It seems to work properly the first time (flash until it heats up), but they i'll come back to the vape sometimes even 30 min later and it won't flash (just solid blue as if it's heated and ready). There is no way that it can possibly still be hot at this point. It seems to me that it's sort of a fake light and doesn't actually correspond with the units heat, rather provide a warm fuzzy to the user that the device has heated up. A better way for me to ensure I get a good hot bowl is to heat it up until the bowl glows, then unpress the button and repress, otherwise sometimes the auto-off on the unit will shut it down mid-pull (which is not fun).
Anyways, anyone else noticed these two things? And do we think that FF can resolve these issues with updated firmware? Do we know how they are going to release the firmware? Simply through the app and wirelessly push it to the FF?

BTW, not ripping this thing. I think highly of it. Never had a better vape and I've had Crafty, Pax, MFLB, etc. I think my favorite part is that the last pull is virtually as good as the first and I could never say that, about the Pax especially.

I assume you mean the green light....you only get a blue when charging. As has been discussed multiple times in this thread, it's not a bug. The FF has a stand-by mode. If left idle for some period of time the green light will be solid when you first touch the buttons. This wakes the unit. The green should flash on the next touch, and the bowl will heat up.

If you never see the flash, that's a bug. But even after 20 minutes, I often don't get a flash....the unit is still a little warm. The ambient temp of the room can affect how warm the FF thinks it is, so that's also a factor.

But I've used three FF2s and I can assure you the light is very real and not just cosmetic. These guys wouldn't waste a light...there are too many other things they could do with an indicator light. There's a long list of feature requests in this thread alone.

Yeah, green light, my bad. So, here is my experience, please tell me if this is correct behavior.
  1. Wake up in morning after a long period of idle time and hit the buttons - Green light flashes until bowl ready
  2. Touch buttons 30 min after morning session - Green light solid
  3. Unpress and repress buttons - Green light flashes until bowl ready
According to what you are saying, there is a standby mode. This seems to expire at some point as well, because if I wait long enough in between sessions (for example, overnight) the next time I come back to it, it will flash again.

Seems to only be between those breaks that the green light will not re-flash unless you unpress and repress the buttons (after waking the unit as you say).

Is this everyone's consensus?

Feature requests are great and it would be bad ass if they did some cool things with the light.

Thanks for your help!

I've had my FF2 for about a month now and here's some of my personal thoughts:

  • The learning curve gripe is blown wayyyyy out of proportion. Saying there's a technique to it is a bit misleading, with the FF2 all you need to do is learn how hard and how long you need to draw. I got great results from my first try and I'd say it took me maybe a day to get my draw down perfectly. When I use it now there's no technique at all really, it's just second nature.

  • Cleaning this device is incredible. You can go from sticky and dirty to completely clean like new in 30 seconds. This is one of the best parts of the FF2.

  • The vapor is great. Great taste, great potency, great quality. Everyone should know this but I think it's definitely worth mentioning again, no other portable device has this kind of taste.

  • The efficiency is as good as it gets. I'm generally using concentrates and there's nothing wasted here at all, you can even reclaim straight off the flat glass lid.

I can't speak extensively about dry herb, but If you use concentrates this is the best portable concentrate vaporizer period.

The FF2 does have flaws just like any other vape, here are my thoughts on those:

  • Battery meter doesn't work at all. Hopefully this gets fixed rather quickly.

  • Bottom cover is thin and gets dirty easily. Not a fan of the bottom it's super thin and likes to have stuff stick to it.

  • Must be held horizontally for best results. I would not recommend holding this device vertically I got noticeably worse performance when doing so.

  • It can get dirty and sticky. This is unavoidable especially with concentrates. The thing about this though is that you can easily reclaim and clean it in ~30 seconds so this negative is really a non issue. I'd say I clean it every 3-5 sessions because it's so easy and I like to keep it clean which I think will be beneficial in the long term.

  • Battery Life leaves something to be desired. I want to first say that I use the FF2 in a way that probably drains the battery like crazy. I routinely take 45-60 second draws while resetting the heater halfway through while using concentrates to get huge clouds. By doing this I get about 3-4 dabs completely vaporized before I run out of battery. With the 2nd battery this is plenty but it's still has room for improvement.

Overall the FF2 is amazing. Its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far and it seems like it is built to last a long time. With the huge potential for software updates and with new accessories coming out the FF2 will only get better which is pretty scary because it's already great.

I can only speak for myself but for $350 I definitely think I got my money's worth and then some. :2c:

I'm using a 3 piece Santa Cruz Shredder. It's definitely a medium grind and I am loving the no screen so the kief stays on the bud.

I'm not talking like I'm blowing huge bong rip type clouds but definitely comparable to that video.

This sounds exactly correct to me. Seems like your FF is operating normally, green-light-wise anyway. :)
