there's no way to properly check the holes and clean them let alone clean out all the oil that will inevitably build up, unless you dismantle and clean properly.

Did or do you use it for a daily driver?

What types of concentrates did you use in it?

Did you clean the bowl out fairly well after every use?

It definitely needs to be taken apart and cleaned to keep it working but they refuse to supply the seals. Yet they try to keep up this pretence that it is not necessary.

I'm thinking of making a video to show how simple it is to disassemble. There are two youtube videos that are both not very good, in fact they don't even fully understand what they are doing themselves.

Yep, firefly can’t have it both ways. FF2 can be easily disassembled and the parts aren’t glued together so servicing can be done by an untrained steady hand.

Cleaning out those holes can be annoying since there aren’t any brushes with small enough bristles to punch through any accumulation that’s been softened with IPA.

I've only tried concentrates a few time recently. Mostly it was for the herb. But fairly resinous herb. When I started making my own rosin I thought I'd give it a go again using their concentrate pad and use small amounts. It didn't help. And really why should it, the pad is made of metal, it will get hot and then the melted resin will get into the holes. Heating it will not accomplish anything.

You need to take it apart to understand that it has a seal on each side of the bottom oven plate and also that the oven is 'spring loaded' as it were, there's a rubber o ring on that is used as a compression spring. So.... eventually this little bit of give allow crumbs and debris to accumulate between the glass and the bottom of the oven. There's no two ways about it it needs proper cleaning occasionally.

About a half a millimetre under the holes is the ceramic oven, so it's not like anything can really be pushed through the holes. What you can use is a sewing needle, called a 'sharp', their points are more tapered and slender and you'll just about be able to get the point in, but really you need to do it from both sides.

But if you take it apart then you'll see that the circuit board seems to take a lot of wear. And the oven is black and the heating element looks worn.

Look let me be clear, I'm not pissing on the FireFly 2 without reason, I think they tackled a very difficult problem and they did pretty well but it has its flaws, none of that really annoys me at all. What pisses me off is that they refuse to allow me to service it. See that little flat heatproof rubber washer below. That's all I want from them. Eventually it's going to tear or just not seal as well and they answer is... to paraphrase "why don't you go fuck yourself"

I've had numerous correspondence with their nameless rude smart aleck "support" staff who happily talk bullshit to people who are not sure. They did it to me. I mean I did what they told me at first, they told me to do a burn off over and over until the battery wears out. That probably did a fair bit of damage to my FF2. Let me be clear these are factory instructions.

The electronics are already flakey without their pointless burn offs.

Also there's one other thing, we don't really need those fucking heating algorithms that some imbecile has decided is the way everyone must use it. OK have their algorithms, but they also need an "expert" mode, where the side buttons turn the element on when touched and off when let go, then I would be able to make it work for week as I like it to work.

Even from new the electronics were flakey.

See the crumbs that gather in the corner of the bowl, they build up in that space created by the seals.

When you press down on the bowl a little while cleaning it or wiping it out, the the O ring on the back in this image is used as a spring to push everything up. You can see this is a problem that will only get worse, it's the type of normal cleaning you'd do on anything you own. But here you are not allowed to. Firefly work on the principle that you'll be too frightened to brick your $400 vape and then they'll laugh at you and say 'we told you'. They truly are scum.

You may think your screen looks OK, when you try to look you can sort of see the little holes glowing when it's alight. But upon further inspection you find holes that are partially blocked, this is not easy to see on something that is only 100 microns in diameter.

You think your FF is clean, this is what you can't see....

FireF this is why I have 3 FF's. One new I will not open up....and 2 used ones that I take apart and clean inside and screen when needed.

Recently I have found that not grinding flower and doing 1-4 piece chunks works so much better to keep everything clean. I get like 10% of the mess that you get when you grind the flower up.

But also if you clean the bowl out after every use of flower....you will keep the screen holes clear so much longer.

My dedicated concentrate FF2......rarely needs to be cleaned below the mirrors, bowl sides, and pad. The screen stays pretty clean if you do not over fill the pad or take it out and clean it ever few uses.

Hi I got the 2+ around 3 months ago. For first time it is not producing a good experience. I think it needs a deeper cleaning than what I do every time is just brushing away the crumbs and doing a iso wipe. Can u explain how to clean. It seems time the airflow is reduced.

Also o think chunks work better than ground flower but in my dispensary they do a 20 PCT discount on ground so that is an economic benefit, can u still get benefits from 2+ w ground flower? One more question I threw out the concentrate pads it came with it now I have med card and can get safe product I would like to try them is there an alternative pad u can buy?

You sure that “pre ground” flower isn’t low quality “shake” ?
That might be the problem or it might not, just a thought.

I brush out the bowl after completion and use ISO every second bowl and haven’t had any issues with the +. I also think the airflow is constricted sometimes but I’ve come to realize I’m just pulling a hit too hard. I also take out the mouthpiece and reseat it to make sure.

It might be lesser than their best but it's not shake. I feel like it's part of their oils production source. I will ask them about that. Haven't actually been yet but planning this week.

I find that the mouthpiece is the biggest clog problem. I've pulled the little screen out with tweezers and cleaned it with alcohol pad. Thought I lost it once but I found it on the carpet. FF2 works much better after cleaning the mouthpiece and the little hole above where the mouthpiece goes in. I also clean the actual bowl with an iso pad. Of course, I wait at least 10 min. for the alcohol to evaporate before anything else. Is this a bad idea? I read somewhere not to use an iso pad on the bowl itself but I figure its probably because they can't be sure you won't use it right afterwards and that could cause problems.

It's fine to use ISO directly on the restrictor plate at the bottom of the bowl....the main reason you'll find folks recommending caution is you want to avoid having the ISO drip through the small holes in the plate and possibly causing issues with the heating coil.

So just hold the FF upside down, wipe the plate with a damp (but not soaking wet) ISO pad, and maybe give it half a minute or so to evaporate before turning it right-side-up again. And yeah it's always a good idea to make sure the ISO has evaporated before filling and using any device, but it'll evaporate quite quickly off the steel and glass surfaces of the FF2.

When you grind up flower buds.....you are breaking down the trichomes and they then deplete slowly. So you are buying depleted terp flower! So unless you can find out exactly how long ago the buds were ground....you have no idea of the quality. Also, flower that is sold like that...is always of lessor quality...that is why they do it.....to get rig of flower that is bottom mids or seeded.

Sorry to get off T......

That said, I clean my flower FF every use with a brush and then a paper towel. About every 2-3 bowls pending on how sticky....I then use lightly saturated qtips of ISO on the screen....with the vape upside down as others have said.

With concentrates...for me its just rosin i press.....so I use the stock pads and you need to use an amount that will not over fill the pad and drain to the bottom on the screen. I have found that if you get just enough on their for maybe 5-6 good pulls...that is enough to keep the rosin from getting to the bottom screen. But it also depends on the thickness of the rosin....sometimes you get those oily squishes from some strains...that is the stuff I am careful to only use small amounts at a time. It just takes some experimenting....and if you have consistent product you can dial it is fast.

I am strongly considering purchasing a Firefly 2+ For concentrate use only.

For those of you who use it strictly for concentrates what are your thoughts? Likes, dislikes, etc.

I use for both but lately more flower over the other. Make sure you have patience to handle a restricted draw for 10-20 plus seconds or longer. If you have lung issues or issues with restricted draws, you'll probably not like the experience. This goes for both materials.

It does a good job on concentrates flavor wise and the clouds are good too. I'm a flower guy, but I did enjoy concentrate with the FF2. The draw restriction is there and a worthy point of consideration, however.

You know guys.....I find the vapcaps to have more restriction than the FF2's (especially the M's). For me....it is more an issue of the length of draw I feel people will have a hard time with.
Yeah the FFs have some draw restriction, but compared to something like a collapse-a-lung vape like the Solo....not so much. (The newer FF2+ has noticeably better draw than any previous FF model.)

I'm new to vaping; except for using a Vaporgenie for awhile with a butane lighter. It actually worked pretty well if you were careful and know what you're doing. But I like the FF2 for concentrates. I bought mine right before the FF2+ came out end of last winter. It takes a little time to get it working if it's cold.. best to let it heat up for awhile and then do some cigar puffs with it.. then start over again, let it heat up a couple of seconds, then pull on it.

It occurs to me also that if one is dedicating their FF for only vaping concentrates, you could probably take out the little screen in the mouthpiece. To me that is the biggest problem with vaping flower is the mouthpiece gets frequently clogged.

Try a very coarse grind or broken apart buds. Then you can take that screen out.

I do that, to some extent; maybe I could use a little bigger pieces but I understood that there really shouldn't be any gaps where you can see down to the oven bottom. So the slightly smaller stuff kind of fills that in.

But it is actually when I stir up the bowl a bit. Then the broken apart buds get dry and crumble and start to get to the mouthpiece. Perhaps I should not try to get so many hits out of a bowl. I don't know, at least with the FF2, that I actually get more hits by using a vaporizer like that over rolling a joint. But my lungs do feel better than smoking flower.

So from this I would assume one should try to put one's pad in with the same side up, shouldn't one? If you took it out for some reason, and then put it back in and the side you just melted the rosin on was down; wouldn't that more likely get into the holes on the plate? Sometimes its really hard to tell. I like to use concentrate sometimes and then take out the pad, use flower, then at some point put the screen back in and use up what's left. BTW - how do you tell when the rosin or whatever you're using is spent? Kind of hard to tell isn't it?

I usually get about 6-7 draws off a fair amount on the pad. Then I leave it in there and the next time I use....I just warm up the pad with a draw....the flip it over and put my rosin on that side.

I also sort of rotate or flip the pad sometimes during a bigger amount session. I basically draw 4-5 times and rotate the pad from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock. When you draw ...the airflow sort of channels from the full bottom plate then towards the front top of the pad where it runs down the center of the glass and into the mp hole. So you might get more out of the session by doing just that.

You should be able to tell when taste (hopefully your goods have enough) fades and vapor production fades as well. But so what if you left some in there......next time just add a smaller amount and vape it all up again.....but this time when you add as I said...flip the pad over to load new stuff.

Sometimes I load up more than I do in one session......so it just sort of keeps some in there and I do not have to add much more the following times.....but after about 4-5 sessions....you should probably clean the pad out at that point. I have one strain I grew that I have good results with pressing (OGK)....so I know the taste band from start to end stale taste. IF you try diff stuff a lot.....it might be harder to dial this process in as good.

Hi, is there a separate thread for the FF2+ ? If not, has the upgrade really improved airflow? I'm a FF2 owner, thanks
