I go where the thrills are
Also it seems to lose battery overnight for some reason..
This is a known issue. I have no idea if FF has ever identified its source, or even reproduced it, but I know it's known because I first told them about it nearly a year ago. I originally thought it was an issue with my FF2, but a replacement unit exhibits the same behavior. Others have reported it, but I don't think it's a universal experience. To me it manifests like....
1. A fully charged battery, or nearly fully charged, or partially charged (any charge state, I guess) almost always flashes red if left idle in the FF for more than say 8 or 10 hours.
2. As Jen mentions above, sometimes removing the battery and replacing it "restores" the original charged state, and you get the rest of your battery life. For me this only works maybe one in ten times, if that.
Which leads me to believe that the battery really is drained, somehow, and it's not just a quirk of the FF in reading the battery state and flashing a false red. To the user, of course, it doesn't really matter because the FF won't work if the battery reads as dead, no matter what state the battery is actually in.
One large mitigating factor is the second battery...I always keep one fully charged, and basically just start each session with a newly-charged battery. I get great battery life on a per-session basis, provided I don't leave the battery in the FF idle overnight.
There's supposed to be an external charger for the 2, but it seems to be out of stock anytime I look for it. I use the FF1 external charger, which works with the FF2 batteries. Not having an external charger makes the "two battery strategy" not so workable. (The docks can be wonky too, so I find the external charger must faster and more reliable.)...why cant we charge while using it?.
Nice writeup. You hit all the pros and cons very succinctly.
