I then removed the mouthpiece and found the screen to be mangled up a little bit. This was either causing it to not fit right, or it got messed up when I took it out. Regardless, once I straightened it out and replaced the screen and mouthpiece it was working fine.

Happens to all of us (regarding the screen). Honestly, if you don't kink/bend it slightly, the thing--stock--will fall out, right when you turn that mouthpiece upside down and over to the force of gravity. Now, don't get me wrong--you wanna shape the metal as straight as man (and not machine! lol) can make it...As long as the screen seats down in there--blah blah blah. You already know :)

Thanks for sharing this, and even more, what you followed with. The company seems to have acquired an asset !

Finally got my Firefly 2 doing what I want. I was super happy with how it handled concentrates but flower was sometimes hit or miss. I'm not a fan of dense packs on the FF2 because the added restrictiveness requires you to draw so slowly you feel like your holding your breath (if you draw too fast) and I still needed to stir. No matter what density, consistency, or draw speed I tried I got 1 or 2 very flavorful wispy draws and then more vapor but less flavor especially after stirring because the flavor is then abv dominant for the rest of the session. You also have to be conscious of your technique which is a pain in the ass but I still get pretty wrecked I just don't enjoy the process. After playing around with the liquid pad on top of a loose pack and getting good results I tried a loose pack with a ceramic screen and boom perfection! My FF2 is set to High 104% and the 1st draw is for 30 sec. Any type of grind seems to work well even the dust at the bottom of your container. Keep in mind its a little more restrictive with dust.;) Pour in your herb to just below the rim, no tamping, and place the ceramic screen on top and your good to go! Draw resistance is much lower and similar to using concentrates. Draw technique can be applied more loosely and still get good results...and the results are a big cloud on the first draw and no stirring!!! It also helps keep plant material out of your reclaim because you don't have to finger stir and material can't get sucked out of the bowl. I assume it will work well with a dense pack too but I hate the draw resistance so I don't care to find out. Someone else can test that.:D

Wow! i ordered these from vapor nation as soon as I saw your post. I was using an SS screen before
but I think these are more effective.

The trick with the ceramic screen is a loose pack by just pouring in your herb and then laying the ceramic screen on top...no tamp. I get even browning of my abv with no stirring unless I take a couple too many pulls then I will get some darker material in the middle. Either way I don't have to stir and it keeps my FF2 much cleaner which are 2 things I don't enjoy so its a win in my book.

@Cl4ud3 - I agree. But it works both ways... again, I am dumbfounded how opinions like Baron23's can be formed without ever using the device. I remain baffled.

Is that you torch?
You do know that some of the most brilliant minds in Space Science have never ever traveled in space?
Your logic is suspect.

@Silat Still, If I want to know what it's like to travel in space, I'm asking the astronaut not the scientist ;)

Knowledge =/= Experience

But that said @Baron23 is pretty reasonable so I don't get the callout either...

Everyone's got an opinion.

Since my unit has worked flawlessly right out of the box, I have been baffled by the troubles others are reporting.

I have since asked to be at the front lines of Firefly problems for this company to get a feel for what the problems are and how many of them are truly faulty units. I'll keep you guys posted, but so far I'm 1 for 1 on it not being a faulty unit.

This should over time produce the type of added documentation that enables many more to have successful results from this amazing vaporizer. I have found the whole bud approach that you use has simplified and consistentified my firefly2 experience.

So I've been using my FF2 as my daily driver for about 5 months now and it's been great.

My FF2 consistently performs well, I've had no issues with function, I didn't have to send it back, it didn't die, it didn't explode, and out of all the top tier portable vaporizers to me the Firefly 2 seems to be the most reliable.

I've got some improvements and additional features I'd like to see, but I really have no complaints about how it's working right now. This thing just works great for me.

That's a nice thing. Glad to hear it.

It's hard to believe I've had my Firefly 2 for a couple of months already. Time went by in a haze. I've been reading this forum and benefiting from all the information and experiences that people have shared. It's cool that there are so many passionate Firefly 2 users out there who are willing to share their knowledge with the community! Thank you.

I'm very happy with my purchase of the Firefly 2. It's become my go-to vaporizer. I use it for dry herb. There's so much I like about it, I'm not going to make a list. The only negative worth mentioning from my point of view is that the battery meter is inaccurate. I did an experiment recently and found that I get approximately 18.5 minutes of total activation time on a full battery, so there's nothing wrong with my battery life. This is just the well-known battery meter issue that others have reported. FYI - my test was done on an empty bowl with the device set to Medium@100% (firmware v1.9), and I'd be happy to share more on the battery meter readings if anyone's interested.

Since I've honed my approach with the help of this forum, I thought I'd pay it forward by sharing the technique I've settled on. I experimented with just about every approach discussed here before settling on what works best for me. Most of the credit for what I've learned goes back to the good people on this forum!

Packing the bowl:
Fill the bowl with medium to coarsely-ground herb while leaving a bit of room at the top, and then place one of the metal concentrate pads on top of the bowl. Don't press down hard on the concentrate pad. When the lid of the Firefly 2 is put back on, the pad should rest comfortably beneath the lid. If the lid is pressing down on the pad, you've got too much material in the bowl. Combustion occurred for me a couple of times while using this approach, and the temperature wasn't even set to High! That was until I realized how important the last part is: make sure there's no pressure applied to the top of the concentrate pad when the lid is put on. If you do this correctly and avoid very high temperature settings, you should be safe from combustion.

Draw technique:
Activate the Firefly 2 and wait for the solid green light. Begin your draw very slowly and steadily. Continue your steady draw for as long as possible - until the 30 second auto-shutoff, if you're able to! Much has been said about the importance of long slow draws, and not drawing with too much force. I agree, but I've also found that there's an optimal range of forcefulness with which to draw. Increasing draw speed past this range is counterproductive, but reducing draw speed below the range isn't great either: it will result in slower extraction than what the Firefly 2 is capable of. As I work my way toward cashing out a bowl, I gradually increase the forcefulness of my draws. If you're in a silent room and you hear no sound from the device as you draw, you can pull harder. If you hear a subtle whistling sound as you draw, you're good. If you're towards the end of a bowl you can pull a bit harder still, just until the whistling sound turns into a pitch that sounds like a tiny motor (I don't know if that's a fitting description of the sound, but there's definitely a distinct point where if I increase my draw strength just a tiny bit the whistling sound suddenly changes). If herbs are being pulled out of the bowl when you inhale, you're pulling too hard. Placing the concentrate pad on top increases the amount of force needed to pull material from the bowl, allowing you to safely draw a bit harder than you would be able to without the pad. By the way: the importance of material staying in the bowl during use is the reason why a fine grind isn't ideal for this vaporizer.

Stirring:
When vapor production tapers off, remove the lid and stir the contents of the bowl. Try to stir the less charred material down to the bottom of the bowl, and bring the more charred material up to the top. I'm usually able to finish off a full bowl with just 1 or 2 stirs, getting plenty of good tokes in between the stirs. Before I began using the concentrate pad, I used to have to stir more frequently to keep the vapor flowing.

Temperature settings:
I prefer Medium@100% because I like the taste of the vapor at that level. At first I wished the Firefly 2 had a way to boost the temperature sans-app, but now I don't mind. If I'm in the mood for more rapid medication I do a double-toke: activate it again immediately after the 30 second shutoff and continue to draw steadily for an additional 30 seconds. I've never done a double-toke without blowing a big cloud and immediately feeling the effects.

@GlowerPower , thanks for the review.

Regarding stirring technique, just thinking out loud as I hate having to stir:
Does a Mighty/Crafty dosing capsule fit the FF2 chamber?
Was thinking if it did, could you just flip it over, so all the material at the top of the bowl would then be at the bottom? A perfect stir every time and eazy peazy....

Strongly considering getting a FF2....

Unfortunately no. They would need to be half the thickness for the cover to close.

Thanks, not being one to give up , especially on a potentially better vape technique:

So you're saying IF one were to cut down the S&B dosing capsule (made the bottom chamber side walls half the height) , that would fit the FF chamber?
Those dosing capsules are like one step up from "aluminum chewing gum wrapper" material.
Would need to cut down but not deform too much, so cover still fits.

FYI, Firefly answered my inquiry and said FF2 chamber is 17mm x 17mm x 8mm.

Yes, exactly!
No idea how it work though. Some of those fine holes at the bottom of the bowl would be covered by the dosing cap; so airflow might be affected. Also introducing a bit of metal to the ceramic/glass air path. But worth a shot! Now- thanks to you, I tried just using the cover of the dosing cap only, on top of material in the FF2. Placed it upside down. First try was good! Keeps it tight, still allows airflow. Good for micro dose. We'll see. Lmk how the cutting goes...

@Cl4ud3

I am also now using these screens. They make a huge differnce for me. In fact more so than using power tuning.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-X-15mm-...486511?hash=item3381d3ffaf:g:XdoAAOxyQj9RJ7Ix

I have found that a tight pack is essential. If the herb is lose and can move around in the chamber you dont get much vaporization goin on. Even if you start with a tight pack, the process of stiring and vaporization its self means you lose volume. Loss of volume means a loose pack and no vaporization. I would quite often get great vapour to start with and nothing after a good stir.

A tight pack is essential because the air will take the path of least resistance. If there is a gap in the herb the air will go round it rather than through it.

The fact the screens are concave are great. You can start with the dome facing up. When you lose volume turn the dome down to fill the gap. The weight of the screen pins everything down. I believe the conduction heating it adds is minimal as the herb looks evenly cooked when using the screen.

The other thing i have changed is my draw. I used to go as slow as possible.(maybe to stop the herb moving about). Now i can draw until i hear the whistle, a lot stronger. The whistle is where air is getting past the lid seal i believe.

Dont know why i did not think of this before my FF1 always needed a top screen.

Very happy now - vape is working as expected for me.

If someone else is having problems - it would be good if they could give these a try and see if there fix their issues

Has anyone tried these screens yet. How did u get on?

I've had success using the power tuning feature of the FF2 to alter the medicinal effects I get when I use it.

I got this concentrate that is quite good, but when I used it on 111% myself and a couple friends noticed a bit of a negative anxiety like effect.

I decided to experiment and lowered the FF2 temperature for some lower temp vaping and I got completely different effects. Much, much better medicinally and more pleasurable.

Same concentrate, different temperatures, extremely different effects.

I'd highly recommend experimenting with temperature as the customization of the experiences I can get is a huge plus. :leaf:

It is a good idea but I just tried it and the dosing caps are just a little bit too wide. The FF lid didn't fit all the way and I snipped the cap in half. Plus the metal was really hot when I flipped it. I did get visable vapor on the high setting and using about 1/3 of the amount of material I normally use. It old be nice if there was some sort of can that would work.

In my experiance anything that pins the herb down and stops it moving helps vapor production. I like the basket idea, but i think the FF2 is crying out for a 3rd party lid with a slight depression instead of a window and stronger magnets. This would help a lot.
I think that's a wonderful idea.

One way to accomplish this, that works really well IME...tamp down the material and put the concentrate pad on top. Keeps the stuff from flying around, keeps it densely packed which helps generate thicker vapor, and seems to bump up the temp a little.

I haven't changed settings on my crafty but now with same material i cough with crafty but not with ff2 or grasshopper. Am i becoming a convectionist? I hope not since i got a lot of conduction vapes.

Now it flies. Good old SS mesh works like a charm - airflow is FREEEEE!
My wishlist just shrunk to IQ and some Vapcaps for sure.
I need more FF2 batteries now :)

I guess I misunderstood how people were putting in screens. By the way, why is there a single large hole in the middle of the chamber?
