right on max, thanks for the advice.

A little tid bit for those looking to seal you bags. There is no need for glad press and seal, or a fancy cap, although they work well, simply spin the end of the bag around with the mouth piece and tuck it underneath like you would with a loaf of bread, no vapour will escape.

O, and how do i inclue who said what when i am quoting? Or do i just have to add it in?

[ Quote = name ] [ / quote ] Without the spaces :)

And you can also just put on end of the stirring tool into a small piece of tube which you can then put on your balloon mouthpiece to seal it up. Works perfect, especially if you have some broken stirring tools lying around :D

Does anyone elses' V-Tower raise its own temperature sometimes? Why is this?

Unrelated, the Vaporpedia "How To Use The Extreme Vaporizer" page says:

" * Low/mid quality herb
o v1 - 320C
o v2 - 220C
o v3 - 220C
* High quality herb
o v1 - 290C
o v2 - 190C
o v3 - 190C

I like to turn it up 5C for each successive bag. "

I have the V3 and 220C (428F) sounds very hot for vaporizing. I read from multiple sources that the boiling point of THC is 200C and not to go hotter than that. Since the temperature on the LCD isn't exactly accurate, I was thinking that it could be cooler than the LCD says. Any ideas?

Ia! Ia! Vapor Fthagn!
cant remember what thread this was discussed in, I think that is the temp of the heating element, and the actual temp where the herb is is much lower than what is displayed... so the recommended temperature they say is the ideal temp that the heating element will be (does not mean the temp will be the same where the vaporizing takes place)

Yes the temperature displayed on the display is not the exact temp the herb in the bowl is experiencing. On the V3 extreme the sensor is not measuring the temp of the heater, but some where between the heater and the bowl. I believe the V1s display the temp of the heater or much closer to it, thats why thier readouts are 100C hotter. As far as temp to use, nobody can tell you what to vape at, those temps are simply suggestions as to where to start your exploration for finding YOUR favourite temp range. I use a range of 160-185C usually for multiple bags on the same bowl but many FC'ers use 200-240ish. Just depends on your own preferences what temp range u settle on, if your find 220 is too hot for you, try a fresh bowl at 200 and a fresh bowl at 180, see which of the three you like the best. Make sure they are all fresh and filled the same/same weed/preheated for same time etc so you dont bias your results :brow:

I am joining the Extreme party, ordered mine today from a chap on that tat auction site :)

Im using a Iolite just now and although its a great unit, I really require a permanent hardcore house tool (with temp control and remote wooo :D lol), and use the iolite for outside/secondary..

Cant wait to try this bad boy and post a review!!

That makes 2 of us 5meodmt.

I have been using my Iolite for several months.
It is great, but the set temperature really bothers me when I see some of my vaped herbs too light.

I placed an order 2 days ago and I am hoping it is here for the weekend. This unit was easily a no brainer.
My only concern is efficiency with the big bowl.
I am sure it won't be bad, but I hope it will satisfy me a while before I buy another new unit.

Does anyone use the Tuff bowl much? I notice it is not like the cyclone bowl. How about the elbow? What would be the benefits from using one?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Did you order an extra tuff bowl? Because for some reason they aren't included anymore in the package.. Haven't got one either and dropped my main bowl yesterday, it off course broke right away and now im stuck with a bowl that doesn't seem to want to keep its screens in, they just keep popping out. Seriously frustrating, and I've tried cutting up a paperclip and putting it in like a V, but it makes it hard to stirr and a lot of herb will get stuck and won't be vaped.

And I'm not sure what you mean with the elbow? If you mean tuff elbows I haven't seen them yet, but luckily I got a few of those as spare and haven't broken one of those yet. So far I've destroyed 1 heater cover and 1 bowl. I've got one reserve heater cover, but no more bowls.. And to be honest, I'd rather get myself a PD now then buy another bowl that might have this annoying screen problem. :/

Is that a common thing anyway? Because I've read it multiple times on this thread.. What do you guys do to fix it? Pics are very welcome :)

The Tuff bowl just offers silicone protection for the glass. It's not functionally different. Packing the elbow instead of the bowl provides thicker vapor hits. It's a nice option.

If effeciency is your concern, pack the elbow screen and rip it on the whip. Extremely efficient and still gives you monster hits.

I can't believe how often this question gets asked, but it must be a frequent problem, the screens dont fit in one of my bowls either. But never fear the solution is simple...CUT THE SCREEN TO FIT. Sorry to be so out right but seriously, just use your head people. Were you honestly thinking of getting another vape simply because your screen doesnt fit :ko:.

I've already wasted a few screens trying, it seems to mess it up even more.. I did have a few cut ones in there, but sometimes they just fly off when taking a nice rip.. and that's not something I want happening.

Just cut them slowly and only take a bit off at a time, until they fit in snug. Cut them evenly, all the way around. I guessing you cut it into some wierd, oblong shape, thats why it is probably flying out of the bowl. But i do feel your pain. When i first needed to use the bowl that the screens didnt fit into, i just tried to jam the screen in there, then packed it, and of course once it was packed the screen popped out of there shooting the whole bowl of fresh weed onto the carpet.

Guys the fix is simple in regards to using the paperclip to keep the screen in. I dont have a paperclip to demonstrate but if you have ever seen a u joint on a drive axle they are held in with c clips. See the clips (#3)
ujoint_breakdown.JPG

That is how you bend and use the paperclip. Bend and cut the Paperclip a a c shape. Bending it this way allows they paperclip to stay in position by putting pressure against the glass (adjust the bend and length to fit) and also keeps pressure against the screen and allows the herb to be stirred when needed with nothing in the way.

Umpnum, no offence, but the paperclip method doesnt sound too appealing IMO simply because there is this unnecessary piece of metal in my bowl. When i stir the bowl, i make sure to scrape the sides kinda to remove herb stuck to the side, but if there is a clip pressing against the side i feel it will get in my way (as rediculous as this makes me sound). Also if u ever smoked hash off of a paperclip, you know that there is a greasy chrome kinda coating on them that you gotta burn off b4 you use it. Im worried this might vapourize over time, which scares the shit out of me...definately dont want that shit inside me. Any thoughts anyone??? :| I just believe it is easier to simply cut the screen which takes about 2 seconds, rather then jam that crap in my bowl. :2c:

No offense Smoke. Personally I dont use this method my screens seem to fit just fine. I was simply explaining how it works

No prob umpnum. You got any thoughts on the coating on the paper clips vaping??? Im not sure exactly what it is but it burns off pretty easily.

If I got to the point where I had to use this method I would make sure the paper clips were made of Stainless Steel.
Cut and Mold to fit and soak in iso to remove any risidual oils used in manufacturing. And then place it in the bowl (Empty of course) and run the fan on 3 with the E @ 260 c for 15 min or so. That should remove any crap.
But that's just me if I needed to Mcgayver it.

It's like having a new toy.

I turned it to max heat for about 1 hour. I set it to 190c after i felt i could not smell what I assumed was residue from packing like manual said.

The whip was easy and I have yet to try the elbow pack for thicker hits. I would have to test how much higher to set the temperature for this method.

After 2 or 3 packs in cyclone, I decided to try the bag option. I really enjoyed this option as the vapor felt cooler and more flavor. It takes away from trying to be stealth but it sure can be fun with multiple people. Almost all hits felt equally the same from start to end.
I am happy i spent time reading the forums on a great vaporizer. Now i don't mind going on a waiting list since I have this unit keeping me happy.

I am sure with a few more days of playing and toying with the right temperature, I will probably be more impressed. Now it is time to read more on this huge thread to learn more and keep on vaping.
My biggest first impression was the remote control! This thing allows me to get up to a finished bag of vape.

dont mean to ramble but i will...

Ive been looking at different vaporizers for a long time now and it pretty much comes down to the extreme or a standard whip vaporizer for cheaper...like vapor brothers or something.. Anyway...i have a few questions for you extreme users out there...

1... Does the Extreme's direct inhale with the whip work well..or as well as something like vapor brothers?..

2... whats all this about the "elbow bowl pack thing" thats supposed to give you bigger hits...explain? lol

3... Is the new versions temp accurate?..or just closer..it seems stupid to have a DIGITAL temp controller if its not going to be the temp i care about lol..i guess just for some kinda number.

4... If i order an Extreme now..will it be a version 3 or whatever with the updated temp?

5... Where should i order it? (if anyone knows a good trusted vape website that for sure ships the new version that would be awesome)

Welcome Vic. My :2c: on your questions.

1. A standard whip vape like the VB (or other box vape), SSV/DBV, etc,. will provide hits that are a little more vapor rich, but using the elbow connection screen instead of the bowl evens this out quite well.

2. Packing the elbow provides a bed of herb for denser hits, like with the standard whip, instead of a large bowl where the herb tends to move around due to the wide stream of incoming air. Even if you pack a lot in the bowl, the vapor/air ratio per hit isn't as high as the typical whip provides. Packing the elbow gives you that nice, stable layer of herb for the heated air to penetrate.

3. Just closer. The digital controller seems to be high quality, but still doesn't reflect the true temp right at the bowl.

4. I'd say all the dealers now have only version 3, especially if you buy online.

5. I see you haven't checked our General section for recommended dealers and discounts.

I got mine from gotvape.com almost 2 weeks ago I guess. I love it, but I haven't tried the elbo method, or whip yet. I know eventually I will until then I am very happy with the Extreme.

When you try using the whip, use the elbow pack method. I dont use the elbow method for bags, but with the whip, i rarely ever fill the bowl, unless its with the elbow packed as well. You get thicker hits but do get less big hits than if the bowl is paked, which would make sense as you are using probably 1/5th of the amount of herb.

However, i now think that you DON'T need to raise the temperature any higher for elbow pack vs. cyclone bowl. :o I was using the whip the other day with the elbow method at 160C, and with that weed i couldnt get good vapour below 155C using the bags and the cyclone fill method. I think because the weed in the elbow screen is all in such a close proximity to the metal screen itself, this keeps the herb at the set temperature, even though it is farther away from the heater (as the metal screen gets really hot). I did some more experimenting with this thought of course b4 i posted my revelation. I was using the whip and elbw pack at 170C and was left with some very dark remains, which means it cant be that much lower of a temp than the bowl (if at all, which i now believe it isnt different really) as i never get remains that dark at 170C with the normal bowl pack. Anyways it feels like my words aren't coming out properly so im just gunna sum up that IMHO you dont need to raise the temp higher than your normal prefered cyclown bowl temperatures to get the same results. Can somebody confirm this or prove me wrong?

Mr. Smoke No More,

Durden

I am Jack's title
I've had similar experiences, and in fact with my custom elbow piece that sits deeper in the bowl I have to lower the temperature compared to using the cyclone bowl section. I think it depends largely on your draw strength and how much extra suction you create in the elbow method.

If I play with the strength of my draw speed when using the elbow pack method I can get a very even burn across the material that is also very dark, but when I draw normally the center becomes darker more quickly and less evenly. I also use a 'soft draw' when packing kief and broken up bubble hash etc in the elbow to stop the material from becoming too compacted and restricting airflow for the subsequent hits that would require stirring for even vaping. All of these breathing methods produce different results and can take slightly different temperatures to work right for the same material.

I could see how people taking hits directly from the whip (I use a bong for water filtration and volume) would draw even more slowly to reduce the heat that reaches them and so require a higher temperature to bridge the original distance from heater to elbow which would account for some of the differing accounts. Also based on this thread it seems that some people grind their material more to make it fit in the elbow section making it vape more easily at a lower temperature.
