Trying to understand the origin of your question and maybe how you arrived here. This is one of the farther corners of the Interwebs and much nicer community than the more popular 'social' sites. IMHO. Perhaps you arrived in the middle of my conversation about the DDave mod kit and was responding to that? Anyway glad you found us and showed us your hookah setup. Have you used it with a group yet? I never see many vapes than can be used in a group setting.

But yea, spending a little more time with the DDave mod kit and getting to know it. Wouldn't mind hearing others with their experience with it too. The 14mm Tall bowl is still my favorite way to have a 'smooth' cyclone/hookah session. There is a lot less space between the middle of the bowl, where you'd be putting one of the round screens from your kit, and the wand. It is a much smaller bowl than the stock cyclone with a lot less inside volume. There is less glass for this piece involved, meaning that there is even less time needed for the glass to be pre-heated. I do believe the shape contributes too. This 14mm Tall bowl deserves a nick name. Maybe next post.

I have been getting OK results with the impatient method of turning on the EQ, placing the 14mm Tall in the EQ, and using the wand. We know preheating the glass is preferably better.
But a good thing to know when suggesting the kit to someone else who isn't prepared to go thru the steps. Until they hit a wall. Spare yourself that conversation.

If you have been underwhelmed with the stock parts and that caused you to get this mod kit in the first place. Then maybe first use the 18mm wand with an elbow 'tip' screen. Once you are convinced that the EQ is a performer, then reward yourself with a 14mm Cyclone session. By then you can insert the middle screens in the other bowls and have fun contrasting and comparing results. and post your results here on FC.

Is there a smarter way to insert screens in the center of these bowls? I'm thinking about all you first timers when I ask this. Fortunately, all the bowls already have the wide ring in the center that helps with things. I am happy with the screens that come with the kit and can now see why they'd be superior to stock or ordinary head shop screens for that matter.

The hat 'tip' screens definitely are a snug fit with the wands or any generic 18mm/14mm glass respectively. Snug being tight. They are too loose for the stock EQ parts tho'. But then again so are the stock elbow screens. DDave definitely improved on this. It was tiresome mushroom capping the stock elbow screens to prevent them to not slippping out. Nice.

Well got to get back on the case of this DDave mystery. Looking for clues.....

We all had to start somewhere and part of the fun is the journey, AmIright? Feel free to let us know more. Yes, his kit has everything thought out right down to the tongs. The vape geek in me knew this would go wide in all areas needed. And that this would be just as good a kit for people who already ventured to modding territory. If this had bags, It could be considered a full replacement kit.

I realized the tall 18mm Tall bowl is the same height as the cyclone and does resembles the stock EQ cyclone bowl, except it has no glass rim to set your screen on. So you would be using the center ring to place your round screen in. Also you would be utilizing the full width of the bowl with no restriction and with a better screen to boot! I can guess where this test will go already. I'll just prepare myself to be impressed.

The hose is silicone and is quite pliable. More so than the hose that I've been ordering for myself. Was able to get a balloon session with the 18mm tall bowl at 200C. Plugged the hose to an EQ bag. Without any geek tweaking, I got 2 bags filled FAST. There was a little ghost forming in the wand. But the bag was filling with a very consistent vapor gas. No curls of white forming in the bag. Vapor already 'expanded'. It is possible to iron lung with a whitewall whip session, If you allow for the glass a little more heat up time. But the vapor gas seems more like what I'm aiming for and somehow seems to be a more efficient dispersal. Would like to hear more from others what they consider desirable vapor. I'm starting to believe there is a threshold as to the amount of vapor that can be produced and then be contained within a certain amount of air volume. There is definitely more range as to the manner of what can be extracted. Just how thick is the vapor that fills a volcano bag around 200C anyway? Now starting to be a little more skeptical about what some people think of the Volcano's performance. Not 'bagging' on the Volcano or S&B. Just rethinking what is the best performance one can expext under optimal conditions.

Glad to see you're enjoying the 14mm configuration! I really like how it changes the vape signature and session characteristics. Also, that it allowed me to better control my dosage.

Completely agree on the starting point for most being 18mm preheated adapter and wand pack. The results received will be what I was looking for in the mod in the first place, densest vapor in the least amount of draws. (I missed stepping out in the garage, taking a single satisfying rip, and then going back to whatever it was I was doing.... most times I didn't have time for a long session..)

Regardless of where someone sources their pieces, it's great to have options! The EQ is a very flexible device and I'm sure the mods will not end with the kit. Looking forward to your future input!

@ataxian, With you being one of the power-contributors of the site, I'd hope giving up was not an option... Experimentation, adjustments, and tweaking (NOT TWERKING!!! ) is definitely expected. We're all different, so we all "dial in" differently to our equipment.

If you can get "blasted", take a shot with the preheated short 18mm adapter and a wand pack. Since the EQ doesn't seem to mind being left on for extended periods of time, give it a good pre-warmup. I believe I recall reading that you preferred going no higher than L5 on a Solo, so crank your EQ up to 200C for 15 minutes (more time if you can), with adapter in place. Pack a wand in same fashion as a solo stem, if you vacuum ground herbs into the stem, the wand works the same. Depending on your draw restriction preference, Tamp as lightly as possible, just enough so the herbs stay in the basket screen. Tamping more firmly will extract quicker, but restrict draw more than a light tamping. Doesn't matter if the herbs fall into the short adapter, as a medium draw should result in the herbs rising into the basket screen for a wand-pack like hit.

Also, put an arizer glass elbow on the other side of the whip, so you have wand-whip tube-elbow, and you'll be able to hit through the D020 water tool. (no screen necessary in the Arizer elbow for this config).

@DDave and I were mentioning the short 18mm adapter in our more recent posts as being a good first out candidate. I also said to reward yourself with the 14mm tall bowl session for if you are successful. If you do use the whip hose, it is more flexible than PVC and has a wide throat that is nearly the same width as the wand. But, yea perhaps reread our more recent posts if you went to re-delve into the subject.

@DDave , thanks for all the props and encouragement. Thanks all around FCers, for the likes and your part of keeping the conversations going. I never make a vape related purchase without posting here first. Thanks new posters for your 2 cents.

Two small points on the bags. How food-safe? How much noise do they make? Plus how would they be attached, if you used only what was in the kit? Would you want it to be attached to the whip and/or the hose? I'll do some reading on the forums to see what is out there. Since I was crazy enough to mention it. Stay cool.

I've never been a big fan of bags, although I have found them to be more "socially acceptable" or approachable, I think this is because of the presence of the Volcano in pop culture.
The reason I don't like them is hard to answer though, I think it's just I don't find them as convenient or as pleasant as an attached bubbler. I also think it's because I have been smoking bongs for years, and the difference between inhaling a vapour bong and toking a fat cone is something that I will never be not able to appreciate. Just the fact that the vapour glass piece stays so clean - it just makes me happy.

In terms of consuming cannabis, I think the instant satisfaction of loading a bowel of the size wanted at the time, and then very quickly being able to ingest that dose is one thing that I have always enjoyed about my personal recreational use.
I have never been a joint smoker, I have rolled only a dozen or so in my smoking career, and smoked maybe three to four times that.
I think this style of consumption, which is predominant in Europe, would more appreciate consuming vapour via bags over glass rigs.
But I don't ever aspire to this.

I have a Grasshopper on pre-order and I'm hoping this will replace my bong attachment set up as it really is too complicated for the task at hand. Commercially my set up with the EQ is one of the best options right now, but I think very soon this will change.

Once that is the case, I think I will be very interested in turning my EQ into a cloud bagging machine.
The stock set up is actually pretty good, but mods and improvement are absolute. Perfection is nothing.

If you are interested in making a mod to do this, the smaller DDave F/F 18 attachment, a wand, and a control valve would be ideal.
There are bags on the market, but if you are selling in large enough bulk consider a food grade plastic tubing and a heat cutter.

One of the reviews mentions clear plastic looks literally like trash - it totally does and this is one other reason I don't like them.

I can see all your points, @MoltenTiger. Including the bag being more suitable for a group setting for some.

Took a look. Didn't think the Silent Vapor Bag you mentioned. was an 'it' solution. But read the reviews for the insight. I have had thoughts about using something similar to a hot water bottle/leather canteen. But being able too see a clear bag fill up is part of the ritual for me and the science. I can tell how well the vapor quality is coming along and see if there is enough air/vapor dismemberment going into the bag. Plus the vapor would be affected be being weighed down from as some of the reviewers mentioned. But I can see what they were going for.
How the bag opens up and fills seems to be part of their design. however. An accordion type fold of material around the seams might improve on this.

Can understand why bags are not everybody's 'satisfaction' and some aren't keen with the ritual like you were comparing to yours. Until I got better with it and the DDave kit offered some more options too work with, I thought that some of the vapor would get dispersed with the inside air and loose some of it's potency. Once I went to all Gas-vapor to fill with and quit trying to get whitewall results. Bags got a lot more attractive. Before I unlocked some of the EQ's potential, I bought this vape partially because of the fan options.

My personal glass mod would be more suited for those with combustion ritual syndrome. C.R.S. (There I just minted another acronym an FC.) Whitewall, instant powerful hits. Hurts the throat a little afterwards. Just a little of the combustion experience.

Will look into your heat cutter-bag assembly option. Might be able to come up with another homemade solution. I can't find the thread at the moment. But some people will use the top half of say a 2 liter soda bottle and a vapor bag of some sort and attach the two so they work in the same fashion as our lungs work. once again, Science borrowing from nature... again.
Well back on the case.

For a while I was thinking a coffee plunger tube like design would be cool, but honestly not much would surpass my Othership Torus in terms of style and potency of hit. This things dynamics work excellently with the EQs vapour generation.

Bags whenever possible, no question ... even distribution throughout the session ... what you see is what you get - no guesswork as to when "we're done here" ... if anything, the last couple of hits from the bag are at least as tasty and vapor-filled as the preceding rips/sips ... consistency ... straight stock set up with the cyclone bowl is amazing enough to me right now that any additional extra gear expenditure will be for the Air vape.

Coffee plunger? I do remember gravity bongs. Similar enough principle. (For some reason, I also remember every person who ever showed me their gravity bong setup being female. ) But yea, I did have a air bag push from behind system with my PAX. Maybe I'll elaborate on that forum at some point. I definitely have enough broken french roasts parts lying around and 5 ft of hose from the DDave kit I just purchased to experiment.

There are a few manufacturers of vapebags that I might compare. But there is some thicker plastic produce bags that I get from my local Co-op that might be the right thickness. Let you know when I get around to trying that. The noise factor is most noticeable when using turkey bags as a substitute, I've read. Still curious and considering using a seal-a-meal to make custom bags with a few select tweaks.

I can get the range of wispy curls that dissipate inside the bag. But if I am getting the vapor gas from filling it to start to finish, than that is the target for me with bags. Consistency can be achieved with stock, But kinda mixed results for me without geek tweaking. But now I don't have to tweak anything with the mod glassware. All vapor gas at 185 C.

Coffee plunger? I do remember gravity bongs. Similar enough principle. (For some reason, I also remember every person who ever showed me their gravity bong setup being female. ) But yea, I did have a air bag push from behind system with my PAX. Maybe I'll elaborate on that forum at some point. I definitely have enough broken french roasts parts lying around and 5 ft of hose from the DDave kit I just purchased to experiment.

There are a few manufacturers of vapebags that I might compare. But there is some thicker plastic produce bags that I get from my local Co-op that might be the right thickness. Let you know when I get around to trying that. The noise factor is most noticeable when using turkey bags as a substitute, I've read. Still curious and considering using a seal-a-meal to make custom bags with a few select tweaks.


I can get the range of wispy curls that dissipate inside the bag. But if I am getting the vapor gas from filling it to start to finish, than that is the target for me with bags. Consistency can be achieved with stock, But kinda mixed results for me without geek tweaking. But now I don't have to tweak anything with the mod glassware. All vapor gas at 185 C.


@ataxian not sure what you mean 8 zigzag vape bags? Just trying to understand. I'm not a bong/water person either, but once I know a little more about extraction, I might visit that subject.
So any thoughts on you new mod kit BTW? Has it helped you? If you are still not getting results. Feel free to let us know.

when I was a young kid our honey oil was clear and from India!
I put some pineapple paradise colas in the Q.

Got into glass when say Phish was popular with the younger Deadheads and people were looking for 'nugs' and dissing 'shwag'.
Even then people were trying to get around the carbon intake with bubblers.
Was introduced to smoking etiquette when a bowl got passed around.

Looking forward to your comments. Especially with the trial and error you've been experiencing, then getting the DDave kit. Very curious to know what solution it may have provided.
I already used the DDave concept of a shorter smaller F/F bowl and ventured on my own with my own parts list. Liked what I came up with for my personal mod. Then bought the kit and compared. Liked what DDave come up with. His direction/approach was different from mine. But I was able to get some of the gist of his design choices.

But yea, I have said on the forums in so many ways. any new, uninitiated or frustrated comments are worthy and helpful for those of us seeking out something, any tidbit helps and has helped. At least tell me how to set up a COLA room.

Always liked to tell somebody that I know well enough about this '2000 year old ancient Chinese medicine' and go into the details about it's properties, then mention it by name at the very end of the conversation. "Dàmá plants have a large amount of complex chemical compounds.... Bla bla bla....It goes by other names such as ......"

Grow everywhere? Still pretty much a climate specific plant. right? Hasn't yet adapted to colder climates and artificial lighting.
I am genuinely curious about any/all medicinal plants and try not to have too much magical thinking about any specific plant. Optimum word is 'try'.
The history of other plants emergence into medicine make for a fascinating read and intersect with other points of history.
Captain James Cook's used to have some of his voyagers keep records of the indigenous plants of each region, take notes, make illustrations. Fun history stuff.

In HAWAII it grows wild normally.
The early missionaries destroyed crops when found.
Captain Cook most likely saw HAWAII and many other Islands of the South Pacific. It was in Athens Greece around the time of PLATO when spa's would take the pain away!

Vaporizing was the first know method of consuming CANNABIS before smoking.

Hopefully I will have the Q provide the same experience.

I need to research a little further!
However it has been recorded in early history that CANNABIS Colas, Mirth,
Fran-kin Scent, Poppies and some other Herbs were used!
From what I read this mixture was put on a bed of hot coals.
It was common in Greece.
In ASIA a tent was made and CANNABIS was in the mixture. The vapor would make one well!

It's very similar, but not made by Mothership, rather a copy produced in China for a much more realistic price.
The green liquid is water and food dye. I sometimes put a bit in because it looks nicer, and it's nice to have no discolouration like with combustion.
Air intake into this piece is very constant due to its dynamics, there is a sizeable volume to fill with vapour that can be cleared after satisfaction is achieved with vapour production from the loaded bowl, which can be monitored by looking at the vapour entering the piece via the down stem. And it preserves a lot of flavour whilst making the vapour smooth. I can inhale huge amounts with a near immediate effect with no health repurcussion and barely any discomfort (can still cough a bit with big drags).


I like this setup especially because I don't have to wait for a bag to fill, I don't have to run fans and put up with high-pitch buzz, I can load a bowl and toke away instantly and get phat clouds.
Generally one elbow pack is one massive hit with one or two small hits possible after, but it's also possible to slowly toke away if productivity is important at the time.

The reason I haven't been a huge fan of joints (and thinking back my numbers are probably heavily under-exaggerated in terms of how many I've had ) is simply because I like the effect and didn't enjoy the smoke. Bongs just get the job done.

Vapour bongs on the other hand, allow you to enjoy the vapour whilst similarly getting you so ripped, so smoothly and quickly.

Basically I like being high, not so much getting there.
This setup allows me to appreciate both, but is still quick, easy and painless.

Enough so any fan assist would be redundant. If it can pull nearly all the extraction in 1 hit like you are mentioning, then I can see your point about not wanting to use a bag.

There is a wide area of study and methods used. CANNABIS and ASIA. Will have to delve into early Chinese medical history more.
@DDave See that you have widened the choices for EQ users with the mods. Including the simple DDave F/F that started the discussion. Some users will use the F/F old school with an SSV wand like in @melonknifer's video above me. Nice to open up the choices. This will be easier for those of us who want a second/replacement bowl.

Other considerations. Both wands are full open throat. Nearly equal from the width of the screen to the end of the wand. (18mm and 14mm respectively). So there is almost no telescoping effect. The hose provided decreases that factor only slightly.

Still think the DDave full kit is the best bang for your buck out of the lot. Especially with the FC discount. It at the very least is a good foundation for modders, geeks and experimenters.

Hose modders. Just cut a few 1' strips/rings from the hose and made silicone adapters. Just flip 1/3 of the hose over and slide it over your glass tube/adapter/wand. Also easier to grab, if you misplaced your tongs. Might provide a little heat insulation too?

Silicone hose is pliable, but tends to pinch under it's own weight. So, I took a few more 1' rings, stretched them over outside of the long piece of whip hose for support. (Go ahead make a support hose joke if you must. ) So when everything is set in the EQ. The hose will arc better and not pinch near the tighter/weaker points of the arc. Hose Arc-hitecture 101.
