The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

I'm really happy with my EQ right now. Modded bowl + the screen mod + a short hose makes a ridiculous difference. I've always packed the elbow. With the stock EQ and the whip, it'd take me 20-30 minutes to finish an elbow pack. Works great at the start, but to actually fully vape the herb, it takes a long time. With the modded EQ and a cheap bong, it's finished in 5-8 hits. Much more satisfying, too. Big hits even on the first pull. I've also gone from starting at 190c, to starting at 170-180c. It finishes at 210c. Doesn't seem any point to going higher. Still getting used to the new temps. Without the bong, I think I could go lower.

I'm still waiting for pics......

How much glass did you remove and what attachment did you use on your dremel? I'm thinking of trying it, :smug:

I don't really want to host them out in the open on the net. Maybe I could email some to you.

So I've officially purchased my new Arizer Extreme Q 4.0 through Amazon from Vape USA! I'm extremely (no pun intended) excited for it to come in and for me to begin using it. After reading tons of reviews and comparing it with other candidates for potential products I'd buy, I found that this was the one that I felt would best fit my needs. Now that it's on its way I would like to take this time to ask the Fuck Combustion community, and particularly those who have used, owned, and mastered this specific product, for any tips, tricks, and suggestions for using it. Everything from what temperature to start on (I've heard this is relative to the person), to how finely ground up the herbs should be, and anything else under the sun would be helpful. I would also appreciate any other input you have on the product, like a nice review on how you feel about it as a whole.

I am completely new to vaping, aside from my one time use of the Easy Vape which I've gathered is completely different from the EQ 4.0, and am really excited to make the switch. From what I've seen and read, I think I will be very happy with the switch. :clap:Thank you guys in advance!

I agree with SD_haze about vaporpedia, and there is a lot of good info in the Q thread (recommended reading, IMHO). However, for the "just got it and want to use it right now" response (which we've all had at some point!):

- use a grinder for your stuff
- turn the Q on 200 (I know this can be a little hot for some folks, but you can go down in temp if desired. I know 200 on the Q can make some decent clouds)
- put your stuff in the cyclone bowl - fill your cyclone bowl 1/2-2/3 way up to the black heat-resistant plastic
- put the cyclone bowl on the Q to heat up
- put your whip elbow end in the top of the cyclone bowl
- wait a few minutes...then suck on the whip mouthpiece end
- enjoy :brow:
- stir when you get no more vapor, to expose more surface area (take the cyclone bowl off to stir - be careful to touch only the black part as the glass is very hot). Not removing the cyclone bowl when stirring can result in stuff getting down into the heater area
- resume enjoying :ko:
- when the cyclone bowl is cashed, dump and repeat as needed

After you've experimented a bit, you'll find the temp you enjoy best and how coarse/fine you prefer.

By no means is this meant to be a definitive list of ways to enjoy the Q. Just something to get you started. Hope this helps!

@stttonedfc -

I'll chime in with my quick :2c: on top of @beachbum's reply . . .

If you're accustomed to combustion, then 200C for many is a good starting point. That said, if you have quality herb and/or would like to taste what you've been missing altogether with combustion and/or would like to feel more of a pure THC lift (since again, with combustion, you get all the THC, CBD, CBN at once), then start at a lower temp like 170C and work up in 10C increments.

From what I've read here it seems most let the Cyclone heat up ~10 minutes. Half-loaded is probably ~.2g, btw. The dryness of your herb is a factor here, too - if it is not thoroughly cured, a little longer heat up and higher heat setting may be desirable.

I don't find a need to remove the Cyclone to stir. Just a few turns with the glass stick does it. I don't have any material falling through; that is helped by shaping the screen concave (dome) just a little bit which makes for a tight fit.

Also, let me strongly recommend that over time you wade through this whole thread. It's quite long and that will probably take a while. Even so, what I and many others here found was that doing so really accelerated how effectively and efficiently I used my Q, not to speak of the many info nuggets that I didn't know enough to even think to ask about.

Finally, welcome to FC!

Why? Why discuss it then? Point of this thread is to share information and improvements.

Um....because things are illegal where I live. I have shared information. It's not like I'm here saying "yo, my Q is awesome, but I'm not gonna tell you what I did to it." I just don't feel comfortable hosting pictures of illegal things on the net.

- I ground down the screen holder in the cyclone bowl to about 2mm thick. I use the elbow pack method, but to give you an idea of how much material I removed from the cyclone, the elbow screen can be pressed into the cyclone bowl. The hole is just a hair smaller than that in the elbow and heater cover. I used the coned grinding stone that comes in many dremel bit sets. It's very slow, but it will work if you're careful. As I've said before when I talked of this...I don't really endorse doing this. Could be dangerous, and you're out 20 bucks if you accidentally crack it...but it's what I did. Someone did post pics a couple weeks ago of his modded cyclone, and his was pretty simalar, although he completely broke out the screen holder. Didn't say how he did it. IMO, we need to be on the lookout for a replacement and pestering Arizer for an improvement. Kind of surprises me how with every new batch of units they make, they tell everyone there's to many improvements to list...yet they've never improved their glass. I've sent them an email about this...Kevin just said he'd pass the information to the "owners."

- Seeks screen mod. Tastes pretty bad at first. Ran the fan for 10 or 15 minutes. Still didn't get rid of it all, but the taste was gone in a day or two.

- Short hose, as I've seen many in this thread use. It surprised me how much better it works. Was just using the 3ft hose connected to my bong. Shorter hose tastes better and there's less old vapor/air to clear before you're getting clean vapor.

I'll answer any questions, but I don't think I'll be posting any pics until I find somewhere safe to do it, or I move.

The bit I used is pictured in this set. Nothing special, just the one that comes with every dremel. I think they sell diamond tipped ones which would probably work better, but I was impatient and broke.

Vape is not illegal. Unless you post a pic where a loaded MJ bowl is clearly visible, there's nothing illegal in the photo. And I seriously think that nobody can ever get arrested because of posting pics on FC. Have you seen the "My Stash" thread yet? :D
But if you don't want to post pics nobody is forcing you.

This is a great mod, only few people did it (including us) and all like it. But yes, the actual grinding can be risky. On my first time I drilled it so it was very cracky. The second time i did it with tuff bowl and ground it by hand with this. Way easier and less risky to break glass.

Agree. IMO the EQ is sooo great unit, but the glass is shaped inconveniently. Should be better.

Did you use CLEAN UNUSED screens? With clean I don't get any persisting smells. Only just a tiny puff at the very first heat (so fan on to get rid of anything) when the mod is finished. I even used one screen that was used once. It needed more cleaning, but also don't get any smells after burn-in cleaning. Now I can max the temp and smell nothing. You can also try to set it on 260 and set fan on for a while. If that doesn't clean the smell then i don't know.

With the stock EQ and the whip, it'd take me 20-30 minutes to finish an elbow pack. Works great at the start, but to actually fully vape the herb, it takes a long time. So yours EQ clearly performs with the screen mod the same as mine. Less hits to finish bowl and lower temp required. I also start/end 20 °C lower than normally with this mod. Finish after 4-8 hits at 200°C (I have 3 big titatium and 4 small stainless screens in there).
Without the bong I think it could withstand a bit higher temp. Bong hits are slower so it cooks more.
With bubbler I do't go over 210. Without I don't go over 220.

Shorter hose tastes better and there's less old vapor/air to clear before you're getting clean vapor.
I think that "vapor/air to clear" is brought in effect mostly by the bong itself, not the tube - it has insignificant volume.

...with these mods you have, you can try "inverse hits". It's basically switch of these two male joints. EQ goes upside down and elbow is connected below where EQ was conneted normally. So if you turned it herbs would fall into heater. But inhaling this setup bring very SSV-like hits. It just needs at least one free hand to hold the EQ upside down in the air (and the glass together with it). This is a pic of what I mean (the temp is high because it wasn't screen modded back then): http://i42.tinypic.com/2i6jsrp.jpg
This allows any draw speed without dislocating your herbs so the whole load can get chocolate fast and easy (not like cyclone bowl, where it dislocates or elbow pack where it falls out in the middle of the session).

Seek, thanks for the links on the screen mod. I'm not quite sure what was done to the tuff bowl? Did you enlarge the small hole just below where the screen sits?

Yea, I just don't feel comfortable with pics.

Pretty much exactly what I told Kevin...the EQ is great, but would be even better with better designed glass.

Yes, they were brand new stainless steel screens...and like I said, the taste did go away after a day or two. Just didn't burn them hot enough for long enough at first.

I tried the "inverse hits," but didn't really care for them. Didn't seem any better than filling a screen in the elbow and it was a lot more difficult.

That's exactly what the mod is. That hole is to small. If you enlarge it to the size of the holes in the heater cover and elbow, herb will vape more evenly.

...and then a domed screen can be put in there, so you can do elbow-packs in the cyclone bowl, that are easily stirrable and stable (not upside down).

Sometimes the EQ just surprises me ! vaped 0.2g 40mins(50 with heating time) at 200C

What's the suprise there? Without screen mod i can vape 0.2 elbow pack or modded cyclone at 200 in 25 minutes (30-40 with heating). Screen mod reduces temp to 185 and time to 10-15 minutes (15-30 with heating).

I can do 40 mins by waiting more between hits :D Or dialing 170°C. Screen mod is described/shown 5 posts above.

Oh cool, but I'm gonna skip the screen mod and stick the lovely elbow mod... :D

I was not waiting that long, I'm telling you I usually get a 20-25mins sessions in this speed.

Very cool. The quieter fan will definitely appeal to many.

I was able to try this unit out, it does perform extremely well for the price. I liked being able to use the whip & then change it up by attaching the balloon option as well.

Absolutely agree. For the price and versatility it really is a great machine. I love that the guys on here are all so innovative with their modifications, but I honestly don't think it needs it - for my needs anyway.

I agree with this. Can't speak for the others, but I take apart and mess with most things. Just that kind of person. Electronics is a hobby of mine. Been thinking of building my own vape, but it'd be hard to top what's on the market nowadays.

^^^ Same here. My EQ has rocked since the day I opened it, straight out of the box.

But coming from combustion I yearned for the big coughing hits, and much like dannkk, I like to mod most things. The EQ couldn't have been more fun to mod, not sure if this would have been true about the other models.

Have you ever thought about building a ceramic based wand lighter? I figure it would be easier than a vaporizer and also more cost efficient than buying one.

I hadn't, but that's not a bad idea. When I was trying to find information about heating elements, I couldn't really find much about how to make or where to buy a ceramic heating element. Nichrome seemed simple. Just make a coil and give it power. More power, more heat. That, inside a stainless steel tube with a closed end would probably be simple to make.
