The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

kellya86

Herb gardener...
Been a while since iv used my eq for vaping....
Serves me well as an incense vapouriser....

But today I thought I'd put some rosin chips in a bag.....
And what a bag it was.....
jRLiDd2.jpg

This kind of ruined my afternoon....
I was looking for a little buzz before going food shopping, but instead got stupid high, and did a terrible shop....

But still... look at that pillow.....

And it tasted good.. not as bad as I was expecting for rosin chips...
Good old eq....

I recently got my EQ out of storage after using the E-nano and Grasshopper exclusively for a few years. I forgot how much I like the whip!

I have a question regarding my setup. Right now I use all the original gear (but with a new and better whip) and I elbow pack. I love that I can leave the elbow in the cyclone bowl for quite some time and not really notice any passive vaping of the herb (still 100% green after sitting there for 60+ minutes)

I've been thinking about getting DDave kit for a better experience, but I'm not sure. I'm worried that the herb being closer to the heater would mean that I would have to take the elbow out after a hit so I don't end up passively vaping the herb. What do you guys think? I know, seems trivial, but I have my EQ set up on the floor behind my nightstand and it's annoying to have to reach and stretch after every hit to take the elbow out.

Greetings @Reveen
I've helped many with this exact concern.
Since your EQ is at a lower level (on floor behind bed) than where the mouthpiece end of your whip is (above, on the bed, I assume), there will be very little if any vapor loss. I've noted the vapor has difficulty traveling up the whip tubing.

However, if you'd like to be certain that no vapor is lost, you can use these or something similar. I have a set of my own and since they're silicone, I've never had to replace them.

Thanks! Smart idea to keep any vapor from leaking. I know the amounts are probably very minimal, but I hate the feeling of wasting any.

Since the ambient heat will inevitably end up vaporizerzing little amounts of the herb, where do you think the vapor goes if it isn't streaming out of the whip? Does it stay in the herb area or does it travel as far as it can through the whip? Just curious if you had any idea.

Thanks again for the idea!

Great question and one I pondered on for a while before testing out some scenarios...

In an unplugged whip setup where the whip mouthpiece was lower than the herb chamber on the EQ... the rising heat slowly siphoned the vapor out of the herb, and one could watch if slowly exit the whip at the other end. This took place over a long period of time, but when the slow trickle of vapor stopped flowing out of the mouthpiece, I took a hit to see if I exhaled anything.... Nope, the herb was drained of goodies.

In a plugged whip setup, for a short while you could see the goodies from the herbs vaporize slightly, and created a very faint mist within the DDave adapter I had been using. I left it sit for just as long as the open whip tubing from the previous testing, but being capped, I was able to get a hit. Albeit I am certain more of the goodies than normal condensed on the glass.

Hope this helps!

========================= Now, why did I do all this testing? Was it just to verify vapor loss and how to prevent it? Nope! ============================

No details are available at this time, as I await the new pieces to arrive.

But, what I can say is I've found a way for the EQ to stretch out my herbs even more, to make medicating even more covert, and effects that last up to 3x longer than vaping with any of my previous mod kits. Of course, results will vary slightly depending on your tolerance and under which parameters (details to be released with the new kit) you choose to use the kit.

Im also a recent Extreme Q convert, but i really only like it with the DDave adaptor, otherwise it doesnt get to its full potential. This mod brings it closer to the heating element and also gives you a better whip. Balloons with DDave i would say are actually better than Volcano. Whip mode is very much like SSV but more freedom, has a hookah feel to the whip.

I actually love that damn thing. But i didnt all that much with the regular bowl. It takes forever to heat up and i found it underwhelming. Just google DDave. I love how Arizer's vapes are very bong-like in both design and compatibility. Also, i would recommend just getting the old school adaptor (there are a couple "versions", one called v3 which i didnt like as much). And stock up on those basket screens. Then you are set for a whole lot of awesome vapor :) and this is a great vape for bong-vaping as well. Perhaps one of the best for that minus the ones where a bong/recycler is part of the regular design

Awesome, nice experiment with interesting results! Ok, your "hint" got me excited. Can't wait to see what you have come up with next. Truly the EQ guru.

I loaded up a elbow once before I was due to go camping for 4 days... (with @dave setup obviously), and then forgot to do it, or turn my eq off...

Anyway 4 days later, after sitting in the eq at 200, with Ddave remember, my load was still green...
It had lost a little taste, but still hit as hard as ever....
So bearly any loss... I doubt you wll be leaving it for days....

Hope this helps....

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
I feel it's time for a long overdue desktop release from arizer now....
When I joined fc 2 years ago, this thread was far more active.... I enjoyed my eq for a year, but soon moved on...
Vaporizers have grown up a lot in two years. Broke out the EQ (All my ELB's are soaking in PBW. ;))

I still like that it can be left on. And I did a few bags. Might even use the HD with it. I have used ELB's in my EQ also. Still robust as ever. Too think that I had it apart so many times. :science:

But the eq need far more work...
A complete redesign...

Surely it will happen at some point....

I wanna see less fragile hot glass...
And an isolated air path...
There's a start....
They could even take a half step and keep the body of the EQ but improve on a better heater design. They done that enough times. :D It is a glass heater that can run air from a pc fan.
Isolate that path more. Might be an improvement on air flow. There is enough space in the body to change the PCB. I do understand this glass heater needs to withstand the air force of a fan and the vibration that come with it.

It still is the best of it's caliber. An all around vaporizer that fills bags under $200. :2c: I don't know if people use bags much any more with the amount of portable options on the market. I'm not into bags enough to buy an S&B or Herbalaire.
So this is still the best thing for that.

DDave,
I'm interested in your kit to set up my EQ for maximum performance, but I don't want to buy the current kit if there is a new-and-improved coming out soon. Should I wait? Also I don't see the "elbow" to whip attachment on your website. All I really think i need is the shorter "cyclone" piece and the 45° elbow/whip piece. Is this correct? Sorry, I'm just a little confused as to what exactly I'll be needing.

@Reveen , the new kit is a ways away from being released. Not able to give further details other than those I've already hinted at... Ideas around here are too easily "borrowed". Example, my glass filtered pieces have been copied by many.

At present, I await a new shipment of glass. My supplier says he'll ship early next week, pending the usual brutal quality examinations I demand he does. Once I receive it and do my own inspection, I will be opening up listings at www.DDaveMods.com. This is the only place at present which the real kits and pieces are offered.

Should you wait? Would say no. Why? The new kit will take the EQ in a different direction from previous kits. From your posts, I'd say you'd be set with a V2.5... or V3 if your interested in a bit extra flavor. The new kit is not V4... it will be its own.... V1. It won't be for everyone, but will carve out its own place. Apologies again for being cryptic, but I won't risk copycat versions to be released before the real kit is ready for the masses.

To your questions of asking what you need. Before I can better answer, describe what you're looking to change or improve in your sessions. Each piece I've replaced from the stock setup has an actual purpose and either improves Performance, Economy, or Usability. If you're looking to improve as many facets of your vaping sessions as possible, then a kit is your choice. If only a few facets, then I have smaller kits, upgrade kits, and separate pieces. Let me know what you seek and I can advise. (Example, I will never use a bent elbow. Mine are straight. Why? That 45 or 90 degree bend will grab a lot more of your meds, leaving them in the whip, and not delivered to you. My straight pieces deliver the most vapor out of the mouth end of the whip. I know for many reclaim is fun. I'd rather get the goodies the first time around, when I vape them.

There's a few reasons EQ owners come to me to obtain kits or pieces, instead of seeking out similar pieces from other retailers. When you get a kit from me, it will contain the same pieces that other EQ owners have posted their success stories and good feedback about. I hold my suppliers to very high standards. Many have quit on me over the years because of this, saying I'm too tough and my requirements too specific. Why go through the trouble? Because when you get a kit, and use it as recommended, you will get the same great results that you see posted here, or on Reddit...etc... That has always been a goal of mine, but one that doesn't capture the spotlight with owner feedback (as you would need to purchase two kits in order to see the pieces are identical between the two). My goal was to offer kits that gave everyone the same awesome performance, every time...

Hit me back with the things about your vaping sessions that you are trying to change or improve and I'll provide my thoughts. And never hold back on ideas or suggestions for things you'd like to see in the kits! Thanks to feedback and suggestions, the kits have matured into very reliable/usable improvements to the EQ and I'm always looking for or thinking of ways to improve!

I see what your saying, a half step update could give the old tank another few years....
But id want to see a fully isolated, glass airpath similar to the evo...
But that would involve a whole new heater design, which may involve adding insulation and a reshaped body design....????

Either way id be happy to see the next version of the vape that for me, fucked combustion....

I mean what have the arizer R and D guys been doing all these years...???
They must have something up their sleeve....

Thanks for the reply! I totally understand not wanting to give away the secret! I'm excited to see what it is!

Anyway, I'm not looking for that much of a change, as the EQ works great right now.

I'd love to have a little more airflow. I vape with a whip (elbow packing) and the whip I use is several feet long. I'd also like not have to stir as much as well... I've heard that your kit can facilitate that. I still want to be able to keep the elbow attached constantly and not have to take it off after every vape. I also like the idea of a completely straight path, with no elbow angle. I'd like to be able to use the original basket screens from Arizer.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
With my bridge adapter and other glass adapters that I won't get into, I can have a bag and draw from it without removing it from the EQ.:brow: Thanks to my Bridge adapter AKA "cloud buddy'. I have a 45 bent adapter that attaches above the main section. Straight pathway from the EQ to the 45 bend piece mind you.

Should mention that I have my own bag fill system that uses a 18mm M/M adapter and an ELB. Not the stock method. :science: Pretty much any standard glass adapters with air path and durability in mind. So it's an 18mm air path from EQ to bag. Slip all that into my favorite heat adapter. It is 5 adapters tall. But the convenience of drawing from a bag with the ease of using a desktop. C'mon. Of course I had to try it. :freak:

I fill bags and then take out the stopper in the side car and insert a mouthpiece. So the straight section is directly over the EQ with a 45 adapter and a socket end for the bag.

Air cools going up the glass chimney before getting to the bag. Bag fills up. Turn off machine. Remove stopper from sidecar. Insert 90 bend and a straight wand. Now you are drawing from the bag and the EQ. And getting quite light headed.

Now I do use the ELB in my EVO as normal and transfer it to the EQ for squeezing out the last bit of goodness. How's that for a vape rotation?
With the cloud buddy,, I don't have the bother of filling bags and readjusting them for the next fill. Just switch out the stopper for a mouthpiece of sorts.

I would say definitely yes. Out of the box it could be better, but using some common tricks/tips found in this thread, you can milk the shit out of a bag that rivals the Volcano at a fraction of the price.
I'm liking my discovery with the cloud buddy and do keep it away from the heat.

So its my heat adapter and an 18mm M/M with an ELB for heating up things.

The cloud buddy has a tall 18mm F/F underneath that. A 45 degree adapter above it. The bag, 'a Vape bag', is wrapped around a 14/18 F/F with a silicone strap.

The sidecar is either using the plug or has a mouthpiece for taking a draw. Mine is a 90 and a straight wand. Do keep your hand over the mouthpiece hole when you quick change. So the bag doesn't empty on you.

Also have a special sized heat adapter that is small in size and heats up well.

You can also have heated glass. ALL GLASS with @DDave's v3 (improved version perhaps?) kit which I haven't gotten to try out yet.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
@kellya86 prodded me to take pictures of the setup that I was failing to describe.. :goon: So you can thank or blame her.

And here is my bag setup. Notice that I have the ELB and F/F together as my herb module and at the base of my EQ is the heat adapter. This works great with the fan. I can get all that goodness left in the ELB's and materials. Notice that I can switch out the stopper with the mouthpiece. So I don't even have to mess with the bag to have a bag session. Just cover the mouthpiece or close the bag before making the switch from stopper to mouthpiece. Also I keep my bridge adapter far away from the heat source with a tall F/F. Near straight path from EQ to bag and it does fill up fast with the ALL 18mm pathway. :science:.

Thought provoking post, thanks. So here they are:
The obvious wart on the EQ is the bowl. The manual says to carefully remove the fragile hot cover, carefully stir with a sharp glass stick, carefully replace hot cover. I tried that exactly once. So much fail.
Most know to use an elbow pack, DDave Mod, or both. So how to improve the stock bowl? Make it more like an elbow pack.
What if we made the bowl inner diameter smaller, the same size as the hole? A spool or funnel or something that drops inside the main bowl. Focus the hot air instead of letting it go around.
I made a prototype out of a curled cotton strip and liked the overall results. Taste was a little off and a funnel is mandatory. But less draw resistance, quick dense vapor and an even ABV. And I could use less than I normally need to keep the elbow load from falling out.
KUM2E0D.jpg

Does it work better than an elbow? Don't know yet. But in the name of SCIENCE I must do more research!
Is there something out there like this and I just don't know what the name is? I'm a noob and may have missed the obvious.
Maybe Dave's new glass will be what I'm looking for, just reluctant to give up my swivel elbow.
Anyone else excited Dave's new glass is almost here??

Hey guys I'm thinking of adding the extreme Q to my collection. There's two versions listed on Amazon with a fair price difference even though they are being sold by the same seller.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N...=Extreme+q&dpPl=1&dpID=41kPJc1wqcL&ref=plSrch

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01F...AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Extreme+q

Why would there be such a difference in price? Is the cheaper listing the older model or something? Because at that price it looks awfully tempting but I'm thinking there must be some kind of catch..

Also from what I've been reading in the last page or two in this thread I can leave the whip attached for ages without it continuing to vape the herb? How does this work? Does it only vape when you start inhaling or turn the fan on or something? I have a DBV and if I leave the whip attached for any length of time I'm left a charred mess lol, thanks.
