Hi all , after hours of research and owning a volcano for 5yrs I have ordered a extreme q. Wile I enjoyed the volcano allot I got a $550 offer from someone a year ago that really wanted it and its been gone almost a year now. I could have purchased another used 1 but the extreme q has gotten great reviews , it's smaller and looks easier to travel with and I like the fact it's all digital, priced right and can use bags , whips and even be attached to my glass pieces. My buddy just grabbed a silver surfer and I like it but I like using the occasional bag as well wich brought me to the q. I'm just learning about mods , I purchased a camel back release valve to try and fit on the balloons. Also was wondering and I could be wrong bc I havnt got mine yet but to help seal and hold bags on why not try a re sealable/ reusable zip tie , they can be very tight and opened and closed again . I think they may help with holding bags on. I don't know though. Either way introducing myself , happy new year and any tips for me please let me know. Thanks

So my silicon tubing arrived so I replaced the old tube. I filled down the bowl rim, and then cleaned all the glass pieces and screens in isopropyl.

I am BLOWN away by the ease of draw now. So easy to be a dragon and exhale massive clouds. I thought my time with the EQ was fantastic before, now it is entering a whole new impressive and exciting era.

Can't wait to do some further modifications, next on my list is to walk to the headshop and pick out a bubbler to draw the vapor through water. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should look for in general?

@crazychristian when I was looking for my bong to get with the EQ I was looking for something that was pretty small so it wouldn't add much resistance. Also not much diffusion is really needed so a bunch of percs seems overkill. Just got one with a diffused downstem and it works great. Looking for something with an 18.8mm joint would be preferable but you can get a 14mm you would just need a 14-18mm adaptor. Hope I could help.

If you don't mind me asking , what tubing are you using and when you say you filled the down bowl rim what part is that bc I'd like mine to hit best when I get it , I prefer a thicker vapor and will try the elbo pack method I read here also.

Hey man! Welcome to the wonderful club of EQ owners!

I bought some of the silicon tubing referenced earlier in this thread you can find it here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200991959071
By 25 feet
or
By the foot

The second link is by the foot so it is cheaper if you want less than 25 feet.

The bowl filing you can find referenced earlier in the thread, the stock bowl has a little rim that the screen sits on in the middle of the bowl. If you buy a file from home depot or something you can slowly file it down and increase the hole size, therefore increasing airflow and reducing the need to stir. Note be careful when you do this. DO NOT press on the file, just let it very lightly rub the glass otherwise you might crack it or file too much away. Glass can fly out so wear glasses when you do this. I didn't and got a chunk of glass in my eye haha. Sucked ass. I recommend finding a youtube video on it, they can explain it better than I can.

Good luck and happy vaping!

I'd be a bit concerned about tiny glass bits that would remain without fire polishing it... Would there be an easy way to accomplish that with a vector torch?

Hello all, first post here, I've owned an extreme q for a few years now. I really love it and have recommended it to many people. I have a question I can't find an answer to anywhere though, I recently took the thing apart to give it a thorough full cleaning, and I found that the heating element had a few dark spots on it, possibly from ink used to mark it or something? Anyway, I tried to clean it with 70% iso. I wasn't able to get the markings off, and I figured it's no big deal, because anything toxic from those inky marks would have already been released by the heat a long time ago (assuming they have been there all along). I suppose my main question is, was it a bad idea to clean the heating element with iso? Is there any reason to discontinue using this particular unit now? I put it back together and it works fine, way better then before actually, but I suppose I have this lingering doubt now about how I went about cleaning it...

Personally, instead I would either go with DDave's f/f adapter w/screen or Seek's mod using the Cloud ELB, both of which IMO will perform better. Some have added the SSV wand to DDave's mod, but I've seen excellent results just using it with the stock elbow/screen.

As long as you've let the unit sit a day and then ran the heater on high for ~30 minutes, all the alcohol and water (better to use 90%; there was 30% water in your iso) will have evaporated off. This is probably overkill, but safety first. As far as the dark spots, sure those aren't burned on spots from residue that's fallen down onto the heater?

I agree! ;)

The EQ is really an amazing machine! Please see this previous entry for information on mods that really help the machine perform. While everything fits the cyclone bowl, the main mod is a 18mm F/F adapter, nicknamed the "DDave Adapter" in this thread, which replaces the cyclone bowl. This single component has resulted in the most positive results/feedback of the mods I've listed.

Hope you find these useful and if you have questions (or ideas) please feel free to ask/share!

Thank you for responding, yes I did let it sit for a day (ish) and ran the heater on high for a half hour before filling up a new bag after cleaning. I had hoped that would take care of it. As for the dark spots, I really don't know where they came from, there where a few on the side that looked almost like markings made with a pen and one near the top and inside the tube of the heater, so that one was most likely a burned in spot I guess?, none of them came off with the iso though, and I didn't want to go to far with the cleaning since I was unsure of the method, perhaps I''ll try it again with a 90% iso solution to see if they can be removed.

Thanks!

Probably will work. There are 2 prerequisites: The diameter of the "handle" at the center must be narrow enough to clear the Q opening, which appears so. The second is that the inside of the center handle must have a "ledge" of sorts that a screen can rest on; you can't see that in the pic but usually the adapter has been formed that way.

gadabout, I'm sorry, that's not the adapter. (unless the seller is not using accurate picture). That adapter doesn't have a ledge for the screen, the center glass ring is probably solid and the air path straight through with no ledge.

Please check the links in my previous post.. it has pictures of the adapter and then look closely at the center ring. You'll see the difference there.

Hope this helps!

DDave, you're the expert on this so I readily bow to your observation. But tell me please how you can determine from the pic that the center ring is probably solid. When I look at the piece vertically it appears the ring is solid, but couldn't there still be an indentation that acts as the ledge? I can't really tell one way or the other. :hmm:

oldiebutgoodie... apologies if I came off corrective in my posting, have been rushing around today and trying to help out, so updates are briefer than I'd like.

Was erring on the side of caution, as others who PM'd me to report adapters that didn't work. Those adapters shared the same picture as the recent posting from gadabout. The key to identifying the non-working adapter is that its center ring appears solid.

Here's the best side by side example of incorrect adapter (left side thumbnail pic) and working adapter (right side thumbnail pic). Click on either so the picture enlarges, then hover your mouse over the center ring of both pictures and you'll see these two adapters are different. The one on the left has no ridge for the screen. (Sad, that the seller is showing two different adapters in the pics for a single listing.)

Go half way down the page, look for title
18 mm Female to 18 mm Female Adapter

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-mm-Female-to-18-mm-Female-Adapter-/130962884679?nma=true&si=PbUsLneSnmL8D%2BB7X%2B06XYIVUAs%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Please look these two pics over and let me know if you see the difference. If not, I will download, enlarge, and repost highlighting the difference.

Hope this helps!

gadabout, maybe ask the seller if the adapter has a ledge which could be used to accommodate a screen? Just trying to save you ordering, receiving wrong one, returning...etc...

So far, every person I discussed the incorrect adapter with verified there was no ledge in the middle, which is why I call the ring around the middle of the incorrect adapter "solid". On the correct adapter, the ring is hollow, and creates the ledge.

i understand dave! and appreciate the help! do u know of any other place besides ebay?
I've not looked for the adapter in a very long time (and was extremely lucky, as the site I provided was the link I used to order. I didn't know of a difference in adapters then, so was very fortunate to have received the working model).

I'll do some searching and post links to any I find that may offer the adapter (at reasonable $)...
