Hmmm. I think Arizer did make a few minor mods on the 2012 model - that might be one of them - though for me I'd find that annoying as a 1 degree change would be hardly any different. Did his seem 'newer / advanced' at all? And 1 is definitely not a V-Tower?

Uhm could one be set to Celsius and the other Fahrenheit?

Just purchased mine a month ago and it does not do that. No matter if it's F or C, the increments are of a few degrees at a time.

I recently purchased an extream q on amazon got it and love it. My friend got one too he loved it so much. While using his today I noticed its temperature setting is adjustable in 1 degree increments rather than the 5 degree increments mine adjusts in. Any one know what the difference between the two units is?

1 degree increments were introduced on the new 2012 models, as well as more heat sensors. i read this on an ebay listing from kj rockwise, hopefully its accurate.

Damn, I think I'm gona get a log vape and retire my Q. At least that's the plan. For now. I've been whippn it for a long time, so I don't know. We'll see. The Q has been my favorite for quite some time.

If it has been your favorite, why change? You can leave it on basically all day, keep adding during the day, and at the end of the night amp up the temp and fill a balloon or two and hit the hay. I like the bag option.

i have a problem.... i hate that after couple uses my screen in my cyclone bowl gets loose and flys up when i rip my bubbler dropping the material down onto the heating element....

ive tried - cutting it, pushing it, bending it, folding it, its annoying me... anywhere i can get a good fitting screen or anyone has any suggestions on making the screen fit nice and tight....p.s. i tried all these method with a pack of screens that i bought from a shop.

Metal washer on top?

That's not a bad idea except it would probably restrict the air flow - to expand on that idea - what about taking half a paper clip and making a circle just wider then the cyclone inner diameter. Squash into the cyclone side ways. Once in place vertically again, push it down and position right over the screen. That should hold it down and not reduce air flow or cause an obstruction.

Find a keychain that has the correct diameter wire ring to hold the screen. I tried some paperclip mod to raise the screen and/or hold it 'level' or some and didn't have the greatest success with it. I have to use "off the shelf" or it doesn't work as it was intended.

MrNorml,
Guys, I did a ton of research and still have having a SUPER hard time deciding between the Extreme Q and Da Buddha.

I'll break my questions down in parts:

1. Some people say that DB produces a higher quality vapor than the EQ, is this true?

2. Which is more convenient? I've watched countless videos on how both vapes work and got my hands on a friend's EQ one time. It seems like the herbs have to stay in the cyclone bowl for the EQ, and cannot be removed until the bowl is cooled down. Does this mean that the vape will keep vaporizing the herbs before it's cooled down completely? It seems that in the DB, the herbs are left in the wand (similar to an elbow pack in the EQ), and the user can remove the herbs from the heat whenever he chooses. Does this mean the DB is more efficient since it doesn't heat your herbs when you don't want it to?

3. Which one has more consistent temperature? I've realized the temp readouts of the EQ is more like a guideline, but I want to be sure that if can get a consistent temperature after I've found my preferred temperature. This does not mean that the EQ has to have accurate digital readouts, as long as it returns to the same (wrong) temps every time, it'll be fine.

in the end, which is actually better? Is it pretty much down to personal preference?

(sorry i'm posting this in both of the DB and the EQ discussions)

MUCH APPRECIATED~

1. Some people say that DB produces a higher quality vapor than the EQ, is this true? From everything I've read the elbow pack on the EQ is equivalent to the DBV in terms of thickness. As to 'higher quality vapor' I have no idea how you would quantify that?

2. Which is more convenient? I've watched countless videos on how both vapes work and got my hands on a friend's EQ one time. It seems like the herbs have to stay in the cyclone bowl for the EQ, and cannot be removed until the bowl is cooled down. I find it very easy to use. With the EQ if your not drawing on the whip there is minimal vapor loss. I personally only use the elbow pack so that's a non-issue for me.

I find it to be very consistent. As you said the read out is a guideline but (eg) 200c seems to always give out the same 'x' amount of heat.

In the end, which is actually better? Is it pretty much down to personal preference?

You hit the nail on the head there. The EQ is more versatile as it has the forced air / bag option, but I never use them - and I mean never! If I were to have to choose one now, myself, having tried the vapes I have and worked out what I like - I'd go for....... ;) Well that's just me -so not relevant to you :p

Here are my answers/comments based on 6 months usage of the DB and now recently switched to the EQ about 1 month ago...

I actually broke down your question #2 in 4 questions... ;)

1. Some people say that DB produces a higher quality vapor than the EQ, is this true?
That is not true. What J.R.R.Tokin' said is correct. As far as I am concerned, I don't use the 'elbow pack' method and I'm still getting large thick clouds like I was with my DB. The advantage with the EQ here is that it will brown your herb more evenly in the cyclone bowl and will require less stiring than the DB for the same hit results.

2. Which is more convenient? The EQ because it is more versatile (whip & bags), it has temp reading, and I find the 'handsfree' better on the EQ because there is no chance of the wand (the elbow) of getting out and falling off if your not carefull when moving the whip around. This happened to me a couple times with the DB and I actually broke a wand once.

I've watched countless videos on how both vapes work and got my hands on a friend's EQ one time. It seems like the herbs have to stay in the cyclone bowl for the EQ, and cannot be removed until the bowl is cooled down. No. You can still remove the cyclone because the top part is coated and does not get as hot and then remove the herbs if you want. But again, I don't know why you would do that.

Does this mean that the vape will keep vaporizing the herbs before it's cooled down completely? No, because as you say, it's cooling down... So no vaporization happening here.

It seems that in the DB, the herbs are left in the wand (similar to an elbow pack in the EQ), and the user can remove the herbs from the heat whenever he chooses. Does this mean the DB is more efficient since it doesn't heat your herbs when you don't want it to? No, because with the EQ you can actually leave the cyclone and herb there for a while (you could also use your remote and turn down/up the temp when needed!). I find the EQ will not heat my herb in the cyclone as much as the DB would with the wand when not in use. If I left the DB powered ON with the wand and herb in it for say 10 minutes, I would see a clear discoloration spot in the herb. I would assume the same will happen with the EQ but it would take much more time has the herb is not as close to the heating element. I've left a full cyclone a couple times for over 15 minutes with no apparent discoloration afterwards, and I was still getting the same amount of clouds.

Both have consistent temperature. The only advantage of the EQ here is the temp readout screen. Now as you say, no one really knows how the EQ reading is accurate, but once you're set on a preferred temp with a specific strain, it's much easier than just relying on a knob with no markings like the DB.

in the end, which is actually better? Is it pretty much down to personal preference?
Absolutely. They are both excellent vapes and they are based on pretty much the same concept. The EQ has obviously more technology into it. The DB is built like a tank and will last for years.

Thank you J.R.R. Tokin' (great u/n by the way!)... I received my Q this morning, and let me tell you all it was like a kid on Christmas. I have been tinkering for the past few hours, trying everything out, and I must say that I am not disappointed in the slightest with this machine! My bud is getting pwrfecty browned, and it is very simple to operate, even for a vaping newbie like myself. And considering I was mostly looking for the ability to fill bags, I have to share that I am ecstatic with the results!

I should mention, that before getting my Q this morning I didn't think I would ever quit smoking entirely... After a couple of hours with this bad boy I can see why people are making the change!

I liked the bag option, though I seldom used it. I only did elbow hits, for the most part. If I had a bubble hash to pair up, I would add it to the bowl.

@andrecanucks -

I won't re-hash the good info you already received from J.R.R.Tokin' and Vaporisateur . . .

IIRC there was a thread started by Pappy specifically to compare DBV and Q. Did you check that? I think the rough consensus is that as far as density the Q's elbow-pack is on par with the DBV but the Cyclone is somewhat less. But that is an "all things being equal" comparison; there are many variables that can affect that, not the least of which is just user personal preference and ancillary factors such as perceived ease of use. This is highly subjective.

Just to add re temp setting and consistency . . . it's already been mentioned that this can vary by strain. There are other variables, too - moisture in the material, grind and tightness and quantity of pack, vape method, user technique, etc. These factors can make the experience either more similar or more different, depending. IMO the Q has more flexibility and subtlety, so to use an overdone cliche, "it's a journey". You'll see that reflected in many comments in this thread as users experiment and learn (and have fun doing so). The DBV by comparison is more of a "slam, bam, thank-you ma'am" vape.

It just can't be pinned down any more precisely than that, which is to re-iterate, both are good machines, both have their fans, and only you can decide through experience which you like most.

referring to "You can leave it on basically all day"..... how long do you extreme owners leave their extreme on for? i have been only leaving mine on for max of 2hours... but have been recently stretching that time to 3-4hours.... is it safe to leave it on all day like a log vape? or should i just stick to waiting for the damn thing to heat up... not saying i dont love my extreme lol... cause when its heated and ready... it works like a dream *elbow pack only*

Vaporisateur.... sick video bro.... if i only of thought of just sticking the tube in without buying a new elbow i would of saved a couple of bucks LOL -_-"..... nice video overall.... im thinking about upgrading to a bong instead of bubbbler to get that MASSIVE hit that i want.... seeing if i can surpass what i have already achieved LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO036Vc4Jy0

I usually turn f off when I'm not using it, but from the design I don't see any way it could break from prolonged use. The heat source is in glass and the glass is insulated and away from any eletronics. Heat just can't transfer that far by time to damage anything.

Although it's packed away at the moment. When it's on I had it on all day plenty of times with no ill effect that I can see. Just be sensible about it. If your not going to use it for a few hours just turn it off, it's quick to heat up.

However, if you like to take a little puff here and there throughout the day I don't see a problem with it being left on except the possibility of shortening the lifespan of the unit.

Or paying for the electricity. It has 70 Watts, than can be something if you leave it on all day.

Yeah, I was more concerned about that myself too. I have my routine and I always figure a "pre-heat time" of about 5 minutes with my herbs in it and it's been pretty effective so far. I never leave it on even though I medicate multiple times a day.

Hey guys, what are the alternatives to the OEM bags? I've read about some of those 'turkey roast bags' but apparently the opening is too big and you can't wrap it up around the mouthpiece. Plus, I did not see any at my local WM, so not sure where to find those anyway.

Yes, I did search the thread/site but with no luck.

I can get oem 4 Bags kit with 2 mouthpiece for 14.99$+5$ shipping from Vaporizers.ca. I guess it's not that expensive?

You are right that the alternative is "turkey bag", or "oven bag" or "baking foil" or whatever they call it. I have "baking foil" written on my replacements. There are more sizes, so you should look for turkey-size (usually turkey on the main picture, like 30cm width). Also 3m length is good. I also had some trouble getting them, once I saw them in supermarket I grabbed 3 of them (3 metres and they cost like 2-3 dollars). The opening is as big as the OEM bags, it's just little different material. But usable for EQ as well as OEM. One other differency is that you need to tight the other end, its not closed.
